Dork Wars Episode II: The Revenge of Joaquin - Nov. 12 / Jul. 13 PTR *UPDATE 6/30*

Oh wow, I'm so sorry about this! I hope your mom recovers quickly and that yall can do a mother-daughter trip sometime in the near future.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about your mom! I hope her surgery goes well and she's recovered in no time. In the mean time, I googled "cheering up" and this is what it told me, so if you could pass this information along to your mother that would be great!

- Take a relaxing bath
- Eat a delicious meal
- Contact an old friend
- Watch funny cat videos
(and my favourite...)
- Make a couch cushion fort.

It's not a Disney trip, but forts are cool. I hope she can make up the trip soon!

So sorry to hear about your mom's eye surgery setback. I will still keep my fingers crossed that my some miracle and with some pixie dust, she will recover fast enough to travel with you. pixiedust:

Aww your poor mum :sad1: Hopefully you will be able to do a mother/daughter Disney trip when she gets better.

Wishing her all the best for the surgery and hope she makes a quick recovery :goodvibes

Ugh I'm so sorry your mom has to have surgery, that's awful! Hope everything goes well and your mom has a speedy recovery, which of course is the most important thing! :goodvibes But I also hope you can find someone fill in for her so you can still go on your Disney trip! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear this Danielle (and mom!). She'll definitely remain in my thoughts and prayers; hope the surgery goes super smooth!!!

I'm so sorry! I'll definitely be praying for everything to go well!!

Awwww no, your poor mom! I could tell how much you were all looking forward to this! I truly hope her surgery goes perfect and she has a speedy recovery! July will be here before you know it! :goodvibes

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Mom is doing well. I'll post an update with the results and keep everyone posted.

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Mom had her surgery yesterday. It took about two hours and she was sent home about two hours after that.

It's going to take about 4-6 weeks for it to heal. The bad part is that she has to keep her head down, with her eyes facing downward for two weeks. :scared1: Seriously. So she has to sleep on her stomach with her head facing downward. How horrible is that? Right now we have a solution figured out using travel pillows. It's not ideal, but it's working. I would hate to be in her shoes right now though.

As for a travel partner to go with me in November, I'm still working out the kinks on that one so I'll keep you guys posted.

Again, thanks so much for your kind words with everything. It's been a rough road, but we'll get through it. Mom is keeping this in perspective realizing that she does get the chance to go to WDW often with DVC, so she's not completely heartbroken about the trip. Just a little sad.

Glad the surgery is over, but it sounds like your mum is going to have a tough few weeks :(

It's always disappointing when you can't go on a trip that's been in planning for a while, but it's good that she's able to look forward to her next WDW holiday and not be too heartbroken about it.

2 weeks, eyes facing down??? :faint: I hope the time goes fast for her because it sure sounds like torture to me!!! :scared1:

Glad to hear that your mom is doing ok. That sounds incredibly hard to do though! I couldn't sleep like that, much less keep my eyes facing down all the time. Your poor mom. I hope that you get everything figured out for your November trip! Your mom has a great perspective. :goodvibes

Glad to hear the surgery went well! My mothers friend had that same kind of surgery and she had one of those massage chairs I believe to keep her head down, she was a good sport about it but I'm sure its really frustrating and uncomfortable! Best wishes for her speedy recovery! :goodvibes

I want to thank all of you for the well wishes, I am doing pretty good today. We rented one of those special chairs for me for the next two weeks at least I can watch some TV and read some. Hoping that the two weeks will go by quickly. Thank you so much for the supporting words. It was disappointing at first I can't lie, but it's more important for my eye to get taken care of so that I can see and enjoy my favorite place on earth. We are hoping Danielle will be able to go with Jeni and have a good time. I'm sure she will let all of you know once everything is arranged.

Yeah, it's going to be a tough few weeks. We're keeping our spirits up though, because there's always another trip on the horizon.

I know, I wouldn't be able to handle it. :sad2:

It's going to be a rough few weeks, but I think she's just taking it a day at a time.

That's exactly what they brought her, but she is a little bit frustrated about the whole thing. I'm hoping for quick recovery too.

Hope your mom recovers well. She sounds like such a good sport about everything.

She's being a good sport for sure.

:goodvibes Hi Mommy.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled PTR for a very important update.....

The November trip is still on!

Whew....had you worried about that one for a little while, didn't I? I was worried myself, but it all got figured out in the end.

I won't go into tons of detail, but we're going to have to go down to the mat with American Airlines on the return flight. They are being pretty inflexible with my Mom's situation and I'm saying that we'll provide anything possible so that we can get vouchers with no penalty. They want to charge $150 a ticket to cancel the one way flight.

It's no wonder that American had to file for bankruptcy / reorganization is it? Not if they treat people like that.

I'll keep you posted on that, but we did some pulling and changing and rebooking to accomplish what we needed to on the flights. Thank you Southwest for making things so easy. Otherwise known as giving me a voucher for the full value of my mom's flight.

So who's coming with me?

My Mom alluded to it earlier.....

Jeni, my sister in law. :goodvibes

She has graciously agreed to be my travel partner on this trip, leaving behind my brother Jason and my nephews.....because you know.....everyone needs a break sometimes.

We agreed that this was always supposed to be a girls trip and dangit, it's staying a girls trip!

So, Jeni is a semi first timer. Her first time doesn't count because they really didn't do anything. So you'll get a whirlwind four day trip through a first timer's eyes.

And it also helps that we are very similar in personality. It's going to be fun. We'll do many things in my Mom's honor.

So, in my next update I'll talk about anything that may be changing, but I think for the most part we're staying the same with the plans. :thumbsup2

Yeah! 21 more days....

Oh, your poor mom, I would not like to have to sleep face down for so long! Here's to a speedy recovery! (Um, ok, what do I put here? I feel like it needs a drinking smiley, like I just made a toast...:drinking1)

Yay glad the November trip is still on! Going with a semi-first timer will be fun! :cool1: Hope you get the AA stuff straightened out, airlines are so inflexible sometimes. That's why I love Southwest, they are really good about this kind of stuff!

Glad you found someone to go with! AA stuff sounds frustrating. :headache:

I'm glad it got sorted out too.

The AA thing is really frustrating. They're basically making us jump through hoops to get through this. Irritating.

I wouldn't like it either. She has her first appointment back with the doctor on Friday so we're hoping that the update is a good one. A drinking smiley is very appropriate at any time. :lmao:

That's exactly why I love Southwest! We just didn't go with them at first this trip because the price of the flight was so expensive at the time. Grrr....

Yay! Trip is on and still good, and a girls trip! I'm glad that everything kind of worked out for you.

I know the whole American Airlines being not so nice thing, we booked through them our very first trip when Dionne had to back out last minute and I called them crying, and freaking out, then Nick (who took her place) called them and emailed their highest up manager and finally we managed to get Dionne's flight changed over to Nick's name and in total we only had to pay one of the fees, rather than everything. To this day I don't know how he did it, but REALLY. Airlines need to realize sometimes things don't work out. Ugh.

I'm so excited for your trip! And mine! ACK! SO MUCH EXCITEMENT
