Dork Wars Episode II: The Revenge of Joaquin - Nov. 12 / Jul. 13 PTR *UPDATE 6/30*

Hi Danielle - just saw you had this PTR going while I was over commenting on your DLRP TR! You're a busy girl!!

You are kicking *** on that C25k! I did it too, and now running a 5k is no problem (I've done it FOUR TIMES in the past 8 days, including this morning!). I'm not fast, but I typically do hills while running it so I get a higher calorie burn. And I'm getting faster! Just keep going; clearly you have the will and you'll see even bigger changes!! You're looking GREAT; the changes are very noticeable!

I was so sorry to read about your mom; she DEFINITELY needs the vacation!! I'll say a prayer and cross my fingers that she'll be good to go for your trip; what a bummer if she can't go. :( Especially being at BW!

Your trip with Joaquin is going to be a blast, though. You guys have some great kid-friendly resorts on that trip; they are going to be in HEAVEN!

I would be bummed for sure because I have only stayed one night at BW. But I would rather have my sight then take a chance on causing more problems.

I know, I'm running a lot of reports at one time. What a crazy I am. :lmao:

That's awesome that you're running the full 5k regularly now. Each week is still a struggle, but I also know that the end result will be the best. I'm just taking it one day at a time and figure that if I have to repeat a week, I will. It's about doing it right for me.

Mom needs a vacation like crazy, but I also want what's best for her too. So, we'll get it figured out for sure.

July is going to be tons of fun. Jeni wanted to make sure we had a resort that the boys could just run around and act like fools in and I said that the Treehouse Villas definitely fit that bill. :lmao:

I would be bummed for sure because I have only stayed one night at BW. But I would rather have my sight then take a chance on causing more problems.

I know. But you're right, it's better to be safe.

I thought I would NEVER be running this much at all, but I do mix it up with inclines and sprint drills and all kind of other runs. My personal trainer gave me several different cardio workouts to do, and so I usually mix them up and just try to get better at them, ha!

Here's some for you that I do all the time, if you want to mix it up:

Warm up, start walking.
After 4 minutes, set the incline to 3%.
Every minute, up the incline by 1% until you get to 10%.
Do the minute at 10%, then drop by 1% until you get back to 3%.
Head back up, 1% per minute until you reach 10%, then back down at 1% per minute until you reach 3%. Cool down for at least three minutes on a 0% incline.

I call this one the "BIG hills"; I do it both walking and running, depending on how irritated I am with running that day. It will wear you out either way.

I also do :30 intervals that she prescribed to me. Warm up, walk for a few minutes to loosen up, then run at your upper threshold (I typically do this at 6 or 6.5 mph - my treadmill is a little slow - otherwise I burn out fast) for :30, then drop by .5 mph for :30, then drop by another .5 for :30, and then drop to a walking speed for 1:30. Repeat 6 times (seven times in all). This one kicks my butt if I push it - or even if I don't!

It's nice to have some variety; I get irritated with too much of the just running along crap. I always use my pre-programmed routes on my treadmill and either do hills or weight loss - the interval is just too easy and BORING.

ANYWAY, you're both right-on though - your mom's eyesight is more important than any vacation could ever be. It's so, so lucky that she was paying such close attention and decided not to chance it; I hope the recovery is absolutely complete and her eyesight stays at 20/20.

I absolutely love incline machines, and I'm fortunate enough to have a real incline machine at home that goes up to inclines of like 40% grade, so I've gotten myself used to walking at 25% grades for quite some time. I've used a routine similar to the one that you mentioned. I'm great at incline grades! LOL, it's just the running I have to get used to.

It is nice to have variety and what helps too is going to the gym with my SIL so we can do other workouts to get ourselves into shape.

I'm being hopeful for her too. I think everything will be fine in the end. :)

Sending lots of good healing thoughts your mom's way!!! I hope she'll be able to fly for your trip!

Thanks! I'm being hopeful. She has a follow up appointment tomorrow so we will know if it's even going to be a possibility.

Thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and pixie dust (assuming I have the power to sprinkle it) on their way.

Great work on the CT5K! You rock!

Feel better mom!

I hope your calf doesn't give you any more trouble.

I'll be praying for your mom's eye to heal. I would hate for her to have to miss your special trip!

I will be going nov 12th to wdw. Awesome. Looking forward to ur report

Cool! November is a great time to go. I think you'll have good crowd levels.

Thanks! You definitely do have the power of pixie dust.

Just completed week 4 day 1 of C25K. Man it was rough.

Thinking of your mum and sending all my good vibes :goodvibes I hope she makes a quick recovery.

Thanks! I hope that she does too.

I hope your calf doesn't give you any more trouble.

Calf is doing okay. A mild amount of pain, but it recovers in time for my next run so it's doing well.

Thanks! I don't want her to miss it either, but I also want to make sure that she doesn't do further damage. Her health is first. :thumbsup2

Sending positive thoughts your way for both your leg and your mom's eye... I hope the gas clears up in that 4 week period and your mom can still go on the trip. It would be disheartening to get excited about a vacation and then have to cancel due to an unexpected medical emergency. :guilty:

Thanks hon. We're hopefully going to find out more tomorrow about the situation with my Mom's eye and then I'll be able to update everyone on the situation. I'm being positive but realistic too.

Oh my goodness! I just popped over here to double check your dates/plans, and I notice I've missed updates! Ugh, disboards hasn't been accurate on that stuff recently!

First of, holy adorable, kid-isms, so cute. I love it, I seriously cannot wait until I have a little prince/pirate/princess/lost boy to take with me, whether their my own or not, makes me so happy. I know Tyler said he wants me there when they take his nephew, but hopefully I'll be hanging out with some Princesses by then! :wizard:

Secondly. ACK! Good luck on the timing of the retina stuff, but BOOurns about the trip  I seriously sank while reading it, ugh, trip mess ups screw with my heart strings so much. I hope that everything works out for the better!

And finally, for what I came over here for; I've been debating what trip would be when, and after a pay cheque or two of no Disney bills to pay, I was all "WAIT WHAT?! I MAKE MONEY?!" (that's still a lie and a half, but being able to pay rent in 1 cheque and still having $100 left over is nice.....:rolleyes2 new job here I come...) I thought I'd take a break from Disney til Jan.

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

Seriously? Katt what were you thinking? So, long story short, I spent last night watching Disney videos on youtube and may or may no have been crying. Lawl. My feels. Long story short, I'll be down in WDW Nov 24-28th..
:wave2:pixiedust: So sometime before you leave, we should stop for a hello!

I hope everything works out for you and your Mom!!

Absolutely nothing compares to going to WDW than going with a kid. And I love going with anyone. But the kids are so much fun. If you get the opportunity, definitely take it. But, I'll also be hopeful that you're hanging out with some Princesses by then. :goodvibes

I'm being hopeful about it. We do have a backup plan just in case, but I'm not going to talk about anything until we find out exactly what's going on with my Mom's eye. Hopefully we'll know more tomorrow. I hope everything works out too.

:rotfl2: You made me laugh really hard when you said you'd be able to take a break from Disney until January. Girl, I thought I had it bad, but I think you've got me beat. :lmao:

We'll definitely trade information before I go and then we can see what the plans you have for the day are. I would love to meet up!

Hi guys.

I'm here with a brief real life update.

Thank you for all the well wishes for my Mom. She and I greatly appreciate it. She had to go back to the Doctor every day this week to see how the eye was healing. There was a fluid buildup in the eye that they were concerned about.

We got the news today that it's not getting better and that means she's going to have to have surgery on her eye to repair it. Unfortunately, that means that she will be unable to travel. :sad1: So she will not be able to go along on the Thanksgiving trip.

We have to talk through other alternatives so I'll keep you guys posted on that. But in the meantime, if you could send some good thoughts our way it would be greatly appreciated. She is so amazingly bummed out and so am I. She needs some cheering up.

Her surgery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you guys know how everything goes. It's an outpatient procedure so it should require any hospital time, but the surgery itself is performed at the hospital.

Thanks guys for following along. I'll have an update soon. My poor Mom just can't catch a break lately.

Ugh I'm so sorry your mom has to have surgery, that's awful! Hope everything goes well and your mom has a speedy recovery, which of course is the most important thing! :goodvibes But I also hope you can find someone fill in for her so you can still go on your Disney trip! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear this Danielle (and mom!). She'll definitely remain in my thoughts and prayers; hope the surgery goes super smooth!!!

Awwww no, your poor mom! I could tell how much you were all looking forward to this! I truly hope her surgery goes perfect and she has a speedy recovery! July will be here before you know it! :goodvibes
