Haley, Im in South FLorida. Ive been through too many hurricanes, including Andrew. Your home is new and built to standards. We dont have frame houses here, its concrete block. Your shutters will protect you. Those are good points. remember those 140 mile winds are if the eye goes through you. The storm is not massive and hurricane force winds only go 30 miles out. Not all those winds are 140mph.I think we’re in that 140-150 zone.
That said, no one can decide if you are comfortable staying. Your first hurricane can be scary. If it were ME, I would stay, but its completely up to you . Go with what makes you feel better. After the storm , if it hits you, won't be fun. Power outages, gas lines, heat, humidity, bugs... but thats going to happen regardless of where you are. Ive been known to want to leave not for safety, but to avoid the first few days of the aftermath.
If going to Disney makes you feel better, and you can cover the cost, go for it. But no one can decide that for you. Either way , from a fellow Floridian, stay safe and stay where you are most calm.
