Doreen's Fresh Start & Success Story! (Welcome Friends!)

:sunny: It's a beautiful day in Pennsylvania! :sunny:

I'm feeling "lighter" since I decided to do away with the guilt of not counting carbs or keeping track. I'm still making healthy choices and recognizing when I stray away from those choices. I did great yesterday until dinner time. Then I just put too much on my plate. I would have been satisfied with half the amount I ate. 1.5 hours later, when we had dessert, I recognized that I wasn't THAT hungry, so I did have just a small piece and it was enough.

I'm in the "good" two weeks of my month, where I can make good choices, where my hormones are helping me. I'm going to continue reading "Potatoes, Not Prozac" (a VERY interesting book!) so that I'm ready for the DZone hormone roller coaster ride and will be able to be kind to my body AND waistline during the DZone.

"Potatoes, Not Prozac" talks about people who are very sensitive to sugar intake. From the information in the book, I can say without question that I am one of these people. It talks about three things that can affect our mood, our way of thinking, our choice of activity, etc. - blood sugar level, serotonin level and beta-endorphin level. I'll try to do a more thorough review later but it has been an eye-opening read for me.

I've got lots to do at work today and I'm hoping my clear and focused mind will stay that way so I can get a lot done. DD has a tennis match tonight - the first real match instead of just a scrimmage. I'll hang out there after work. Then we'll head home, make some dinner, relax and head to bed by 10 PM.

I'll be following my usual plan today - devotions, pills, water and healthy eating. That will be enough. The scale said 156 this morning - expected after I overindulged at dinner last night. I'm betting it will be down tomorrow.

:sunny: It IS a beautiful day in PA, isn't it? :sunny: You sound sunny and focused yourself, dear WISH-sis.

I'm glad you're finding the book interesting. I think you'll find the other books thought-provoking, too. I'll get those out in the mail today.

Wishing your DD best wishes at the match today; they sure have great playing weather.

Take care, Doreen.,
Erin

Hi Doreen - sounds like a very interesting book! Hope your DD has a great game tonight!

Here's how organized I am: I went to the post office with the books, bought the mailing bag and label and then forgot your address at home! I wrote on the label so I had to pay for it. While I was there I figured I might as well pay for the postage, but I had to close the bag up so they could weigh it and wasn't able to put a note in it (which was also at home!!!). I ran back home and got your address and ran the whole package back to the post office--just in time for it to be mailed before the start of my afternoon lessons. Guess what? You should have it tomorrow! :Pinkbounc

Good morning, WISH-sis. I'm sending you some more :sunny: this morning, though I don't think it could get any more beautiful out there. How did DD's match go? Did she have fun?

How's DS feeling, btw? Has he shook that bug off?

What's going on at work this week? You classes are all done, right? What other projects do they have planned for you? Are you happy with them?

OK, I'm going to quickly stop by Amanda's journal, and then I'm going to fold and put away the laundry mountain outside the laundry room. If you never hear from me again, you'll know there was an avalanche and I was buried alive under the t-shirts and towels.

:wave2: for now,
Erin

:grouphug: Thanks for visiting Erin, Jen, lillygator and Tracy! :grouphug:

DD and her partner lost their match, as did most of the team. DS had the intestinal bug and fever last week. DD now has the sore throat, cough and fever this week. Both diseases are running rampant through the high school. She is home today, hoping to get her voice back and to feel healthy enough to go to school tomorrow, so she can play in the tennis match tomorrow afternoon.

During the match, some of the girls found a stray dog wandering. He was a beautiful Westie (I was thinking of Mickey, Erin!) and well cared for. I walked him around, hoping he would lead me to his home or that someone would recognize him. Eventually the police traced his expired dog license and gave us the name and address so we walked him home. Turns out his name was Spike :confused3 and he was 15 years old. I'm betting he slept really good last night because we did LOTS of walking. ::yes::

Since I was busy with my adventures with Spike, I didn't get around to eating until 10 PM. At that point, I ate a small piece of cake and that was enough to satisfy me.

I'm out of healthy food at home and can't get much at the store until Friday, so breakfast this morning was a pack of crackers from the EVM. Next up is a pack of PopTarts. At this point I'm picking the lesser of all the evils. The funny thing is that I'm not craving any of this stuff - it's just the cheapest alternative I have. :p

My foot is reminding me of WHY I don't walk a couple miles every evening. It didn't hurt last evening while I was walking but it sure hurts plenty today. I've been massaging it regularly this morning and that's helping. As much as I didn't want to pull out of the St. Louis half marathon, I see now that it was truly the right decision.

My post sounds like it has lots of negative stuff in it but I'm feeling upbeat and pretty happy.

Tonight we all go for haircuts and to play with the hair stylist's 2 shih tzus that hang out with her at her shop.

My plan for the day is the same as always. :sunny:

:paw: "Adventures with Spike and Doreen," coming soon to a children's bookstore near you! :paw: You know your story made my heart melt, don't you? :goodvibes

Sorry that DD is now under the weather. Uh, you'd better be careful or you know who's going to be next, don't you?

Hmmm, cake for dinner, crackers for breakfast, Poptarts for lunch--well, at least you know if you get some protein into your system the tryptophan will magically spark into serotonin! You've got the carbo thing going on, that's for sure! :p

Please take care of that foot, Doreen. Should you wear some kind of arch support or something????

Have a great afternoon!
Erin

I've been wearing arch supports in every pair of shoes since this whole foot thing started. They do help but they certainly don't fix the problem. Next step will be taping my foot to keep the arch from flexing as much.

Erin, thanks for spotting that pattern. You're right - not a lot of protein has been consumed. Maybe it's time for a pack of peanuts from the EVM???

Hi there Doe,

How is your evening going? I think DH might be willing to help you out with a foot massage. I hope your tootsies feel better in the morning.

How is your DD? Take a bit of extra vitamin C to help keep the bug away from you.

Take care,
Beth

:cool1: Thursday is here! Could Friday be far behind??? :cool1:

Well, Erin spotted the carb pattern before I did. It led me down the wrong path for sure and set up unbelievable cravings. When will I learn? :confused3

Today is a new day and a fresh start. DD went back to school today in spite of her very sore throat because she didn't want to miss the away tennis match this afternoon. So far the rest of the family is feeling well <crossing my fingers and knocking on wood>.

1. Devotions - This is the refreshing. - Isaiah 28:12 Saying these words slowing while thinking about peace, rest and renewal is very helpful to me.
2. Pills - Just paused to take them.
3. Water - yes! :cloud9:
4. Healthy eating - B was yogurt w/ almonds
5. Exercise - may take a stroll around the block at work which = half a mile.
6. Scale - 154 :)

I've got plenty to keep me busy at work. In my spare moments I'll be working on my plans for the trip to St. Louis coming up on the 16th. Tonight looks like a pretty relaxing one, with DD at her tennis match and DS at marching band rehearsal.

Got my hair cut and highlighted last night. With my bangs now out of my eyes, I feel so much better!! :p

Hey! Did the books get there? That darn post office lady told me they'd be there yesterday--did they make it? Well, at least you know they're on the way.

Have a good healthy day, WISH-sis. I'll be thinking about you. Oh, and I'm wishing DD well at the match today.

,
Erin

Good morning Doe! :sunny:

Sending some :wizard: your DD's way. I hope she starts feeling better soon. :goodvibes

Have a wonderful day today! :flower:

So far, so good today! Lunch was a wrap with roast beef, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo - so so good! The cravings I had from yesterday are all gone and I feel so much better!

So how was the rest of the afternoon? I bet you look great with the haircut/color. I hope that your DD feels better.

Tomorrow is Friday! The weekend is almost here.
Beth

 It's FRIDAY!!!

DD and her partner lost their tennis match 3-6 but she said she played well at the net, which is her weak spot. She was happy. :goodvibes

I did okay food-wise last night. Dinner was a bowl of frosted shredded wheat. No one wanted an actual dinner and the kids were never home at the same time until 9:30 last night.

Today:
1. Devotions - I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. - Psalm 34:4
2. Pills - on the desk and ready to be taken with breakfast.
3. Water - drank plenty yesterday and hope to do the same today.
4. Healthy eating - B will be yogurt w/ walnuts, L will be a sandwich or wrap from the cafeteria, D???
5. Exercise - a short walk would be nice.
6. Scale - 154 and steady. :goodvibes It's been steady for a few days and my "tight" pants are feeling very comfortable again. :cloud9:

Tonight DS has an away football game & DD has tennis practice. Sounds like a good night for me to sit and read. :cloud9:

It sounds like you've got a great Friday night planned. . .isn't it nice to be able to just chill? :cloud9:

Sounds like DD has a healthy perspective on last night's match. Good for her!

Maybe you and DH could get the kids where they need to go and then do an "Outback-to-go" dinner? That might be fun and yummy.

OK, just be honest. Do you think the potato thing is totally out there? :confused3 I'm still gonna eat it, but I was wondering what you think.

 and  for your day--
Erin

Hope you enjoy your night of reading. And congrats on the pants feeling better!!!!!

Hope you have a fun time with your trip to St. Louis. Passed through there last December and stopped to have dinner with my brother and sister-in-law at Ponderosa (was a nice Ponderosa actually) after driving through in rush hour in the pouring rain (that was really dumb on my part especially since I had never been through there before - thank God for cell phones!!!!).

Keep on
Chris
