Dopey Costume...help!

Not sure where to post this. I have been looking for a dopey costume for my daughter in a size 6-12 months. Haven't found one in any of the stores here in Pittsburgh nor online. Not wanting to pay an arm and a leg for it on ebay. I've seen them listed for $60-$100.

Was wondering if anyone had a costume they were looking to sell at a reasonable price or if anyone had any ideas on how to make one.

I made one many years ago when my DS was maybe 2. Big sis was Snow White. Anyway, I went to Goodwill and bought a really oversized green turtleneck that was a knit fabric that would go floor length on him. I cut the sleeves a little shorter, then rolled them up and sewed them so they'd stay up. Then ironed on khaki patch material on the elbows (sold at Walmart or any fabric store). I slit the fabric up the front in the middle til about the waist. TO keep it from curling funny, I did sew it. You could use hem tape and iron it instead of sewing. Or even washable fabric glue. Sewed 2 big gold buttons down the middle above the waist and then belted it with a black belt (very hard to find but Walmart had kid sized ones). Since your DS is so young, you could possibly just use yarn or even a strip of felt.

The hate was tricky. I found some cheap purple stretch knit and just basically had to experiment. Stretch knits usually stretch more in one direction, so make sure when you sew you have the stretch the right way for it to go on the head. Measure your son's head circumference and cut the fabric a little wider since you'll roll up a brim. I essentially made a very long cone and sewed one side seam. It looked adorable and he got lots of comments.

Thanks for your ideas. I consider myself pretty creative, but it seems that whenever I attempt a sewing project things go awry. The turtleneck idea sounds pretty easy. And since I don't really have access to a sewing machine, it sounds like sewing tape would work out. Thanks, again. Any others keep them coming!
