Dopey 2015 Official Thread

We are doing our last 4 day simulation this week, 3-6-10-20. Anyone else finishing up the long stuff this week? Best wishes to all! See Ya Real Soon!

I am doing 2.5/5/10/20 starting on Thurs. I might be taking Fri off of work, so hopefully I don't have to get up before 5am to complete the 5-miler! Bad news is, right now the weather is looking a little iffy for the weekend, especially Sunday. Not looking forward to having to top off training with a 20 mile splash n dash :lmao:

No doubt! I was there in 2010, standing in line for the porta potty in potty city there at the beginning and it was sleeting!?? Remember that, crazy! This is one real upside to having a car there, camping out if need be. My running partner ClewRunning found a site, AccuWeather, that has long range forecasting and at this point the weather looks pretty ideal. Mostly sunny, lows in the lower 50's and highs in the mid 60's. Bring it on!

I too was there in 2010 for the half marathon... I had 2 long sleeve shirts on, short and long pant, hat , gloves, and wind breaker on and I was still cold as hell... However, I will not forget running into the Magic Kingdom.. just starting to warm up as a loud roar from the crowd from behind me... I turned to look behind me to see what was up.... and here a young adult passed me only wearing a pair a shorts (and of course shoes but nothing else).. and the crowd just loved it... ahh to be young and numb...LOL

Not me. I've got my peak week next week. Good luck to everyone else who is maxing out this week.

I saw a guy like that on my way to the start. He was sitting on a generator underneath a floodlight trying to keep warm. By the end of the race, though, I'm pretty sure I was just as cold and miserable as he was. That sleet and freezing rain soaked right through everything I was wearing once I stopped running.

Me! 2.5/5/10/20 this week, starting on Wednesday. I'm actually sort of - ?!?!! - excited for it...I think just because I feel so ready to get to tapering!!

SmoothRunner, I hope that AccuWeather forecast holds. That sounds AMAZING. Good reminder to start gathering some throwaway clothes...:scratchin

Awesome!! Wow a bunch of us will be peaking this week. Here's to hoping the weather holds for everybody. Ours in the Nashville, TN area is not looking so great Thursday-Saturday, but we will press on!! On the throwaway clothes, forgive me if you already know this tip, but we use large outdoor trash bags. Tear a hole in the top for your head then slide it on for perfect wind protection and easy toss over at the gun. Easy running this week everybody!!

I don't know that its listed on the runDisney site.

You will receive two bibs during packet pick up. One bib (green if it is like last year) for the 5K & 10K with the corral marked on it. You will wear that on Thursday and Friday morning. The other bib (purple if like last year) for the Half and Full with the M corral marked on it.

Both bibs will have the same number, so your Dopey number is consistent throughout the challenge.

**I don't understand why its upside down, it shows up correct in photobucket....

I CAN NOT WAIT to get my shirt!! Thanks for sharing...

I'm on about the same plan too and will be doing the 2.5/5/10/20 combo later this week. It's been really difficult scheduling in all the running time for the last two months due to some unexpected things that came up in family life but that's the way life goes and I've managed to keep things mostly on track. With that said, I'm really looking forward to getting over the peak and tapering down a bit.

Good luck to everyone hitting their peak training this week!

I am scheduled to do the 3-6-10-20 this week also, but I hurt my knee last week and I'm wondering if I should rest and let it heal this week instead??? Do you think I could do the max week next week instead? Does that give me a long enough taper before the race? Or do I just skip the max week since I made it to 19 miles? Any thoughts?

Sorry that you hurt your knee. :worried:

I would not run with an injury at this point; I'd rather be better-healed for the big race weekend.

Regarding tapering, it is not a requirement. Some folks benefit from tapering, some don't taper at all.

I hope you heal rapidly :)

Ugh, that stinks!

I agree with Outonarun - I'd definitely rest it.

I guess what you do with the max week is up to you. If it was me, I'd skip it and be content with finishing the 19-miler...just because I like having the 2.5ish week taper and if you did 19 miles, I'm sure you will do fine for race weekend. But it's different for everyone. :confused3

First, I confuse you and Outonarun all the time. The name and avis are backward!!!

Anyway... I'm only doing 3/10/20 this week and I see that people are doing something more like 3/6/10/20. Am I not doing enough? Should I add in distance and a fourth run at the beginning? I just didn't think it was necessary because 3-6 seem so short, but now I'm questioning that logic.

Haha, very true!! :)

I don't think you *have* to add in a 4th day. I don't really think any of us do - I'm doing it more because I think it'll give me some confidence going into Dopey...probably won't really benefit me physically, except that it'll give me a little taste of what it's like to run 4 days in a row, and how sleepy I can expect to be. :)

Urg, I hate that for you. I've been there once before though for a Disney Marathon. I was up for my 18 miler (and still had a 20 to hit) and had IT band issues kick in so I stopped that run and just did some consistent low mileage until race day. So my long run was only 16 that year and I didn't break any records but finished and have the metal on my board! As others has also stated, everybody is different, but if it were me I'd start the taper and go in rested with my head in the right place. The 19 will serve you just fine!

Thanks so much for all the advice, everyone! It's really helping to put my mind at ease! :)

Heal, always opt to let things heal. The slight benefit you'd get from running this week is far outweighed by the consequences of an injury that is not allowed to heal. Better to be undertrained and injury-free than overtrained and hurt.

It is basically a mental thing at this point. Doing 4 days simulates the race to a degree and knowing you complete four good runs in a row just helps the confidence...it is less about the mileage. Everyone on this board sounds like we're trained up for the race. We've all put in several hundred miles to prep for this so know that you'll do great with that base. I've always said the medal is more about the training and less about the race itself...unless of course you plan to place or win. I can assure you I won't be competing, I'll be completing and there's a "L" of a difference between the two. :) make it great run week everyone!!

For me, two weeks is not enough time to recover from a 20-miler to be in a good place to run a marathon. I'd be fine knowing I got a good 19-miler in...but that's me.

I'm dealing with some knee pain as well, and it is no fun! Did an easy 4 miles this morning and it was still rough. Going to force myself to take a week of rest from running. Will be travelling the next few days so that should make it a bit easier. Hope you get to feeling better soon!!

Thanks! Yeah, I think I'll take the week off too. It's already been 4 days of no running, and it feels so wrong! ;) Hope your knee gets feeling better too!

For those who are now in taper mode, congrats on some long training. Enjoy the lighter weeks heading into 1/8. Good luck to those who have your longest runs this weekend - get it done feeling good. SmoothRunner and I completed out final simulation this past weekend (3,6,10,20) and felt really good about it. Nice steady pace and felt strong for the most part. 18 thru 20 got a little tricky for me with a hamstring cramp but worked through it. Glad to have it all behind me. Merry Christmas All!!

ClewRunning and I did indeed have a good one, I hope the same for each of you. I heard a great line on a podcast Monday that had me slightly rethink my next 2 weeks of training going into the race. He said...it's far better to go into a race 10% under trained that 1% over trained. Got it, not doing anything over 6 from here on out and will just do a bunch of 3's & 4's to stay loose...and mentally sane :)

So question, I'm guessing many of you have some type of board where you display all your hardware? I do as well and am trying to think thru how I want to display this new set of trophies? How are you going to display your 6?? Happy Holidays & Happy Running!
