Dopey 2015 Official Thread

So how do the corral placements work for each race? I'm supposed to be in "I" for the full, but does that mean I'm in "I" for the half? And there is no "I" for the 10k.

I don't know if everyone's followed the same pattern last year, but (last year) I was in corral C for the half and full, and corral A for the 5K and 10K.

SO PUMPED UP... I got into Corral C.. Training is going well and just trying to hold off injuries. Did my last long run last week(22 miles).. I was sore for a few days... Question for those of you who have done this races before. I am staying at a Disney hotel but will have a car. I have seen some youtube videos that it may take 45 minutes to get from the hotel to the race start. Would it be faster to drive to epcot ?

It can be faster, yes. Every year, one resort has huge problems with their buses and the rest are generally fine. If you're in that unlucky resort, driving will be faster. There's also a nice drop-off lane for people to use which moves pretty quickly. Parking can take a while.

Thoughts on how they'll split us up for the 10K and 5K corrals? Hmmm...

Also, I like and don't like the new procedure for confirming our Dopeyness (also Goofiness). Get a picture taken with the bib at the expo, they match you to the picture and verify your time after each race.

I like it because it seems like they're really cracking down on making sure only people that TRULY earn the challenge medals will actually get them...don't like it because it'll make things take just a bit longer. But overall I think it's good that they are getting a little stricter with the challenges.

Also...I could totally see myself wearing the wrong bib to each race, since we'll have two. Better pay attention!

Dopey Challenge & Goofy’s Race And A Half Challenge
In an effort to enhance our runners’ check-in process, we ask that all Dopey
and Goofy Challenge participants have their photo taken with their race
bibs. This photo will be used at the finish line of each race to expedite the finish line experience.

You are required to attend Packet PickUp on Wednesday in order to receive
your race materials. You will receive the following materials: two race bibs with two B-Tags (a green bib and a purple bib), one bag check sticker, one gEAR bag, and six race shirts. Two bibs isn't really that hard, unless you are in Corral A-E for the Half/Full. I am in J. There isn't a J corral for the 5K/10K runs, so I won't wear that one. I'm already yawning thinking about how early we have to get up.....

My experiences with the "take a picture with your bib" folks at the expo:

Wine & Dine:
I didn't do it. I didn't really see the need. When I finished in the deluge, they did check the computer for my perfect status and told me to go through and tried to also give me a C2C medal.

Avengers:
Had them take my picture. Flippant dude irked me something fierce. Didn't notice a computer station set up in the finish area to verify it was really me getting the C2C medal.

I do wonder if they will still make us wear all the armbands in addition to the picture. Probably. Oh well, could be worse.

I know you're right, I can just be kind of an airhead sometimes...that's a dumb mistake I could see myself making. ;) Good thing I lay my clothes out the night before because I KNOW I'd grab the wrong one at 2:45AM! You make a good point though, it should be easier for those of us in the latter corrals.

The wake-ups are definitely the thing I am most nervous about for Dopey. I did 5K + Goofy in 2013 and 3 early wake-ups was pretty rough...

Well that's weird. Just when I think they're making an effort to crack down...:rotfl2:

I was wondering that as well. :confused3

I feel like the wristbands are less of a hassle than the picture. I don't mind wearing them, and it's kind of a badge of honor ;)

I find them uncomfortable to sleep in is all. With the Rebel Challenge the next weekend, I will be wearing a lot of runDisney bracelets. lol

Question for those Dopey's runners last year who stopped at the photo stops. Just trying to get an idea how fast the line moves waiting for your turn to get the picture. If you see a line with 10 people in it... how long do you wait? 20 people, 30 people??? I know this is just estimation... thanks.. Getting so close now..

It takes about 5-10 seconds per person, depending on how quick they are with hopping into the picture and getting out of it. The character stops with multiple cast members taking pictures can go a little faster than that. I tend not to wait in lines with 30 people in front of me. That's too much time for me to just be standing around, so I end up skipping the really popular characters and visiting all the sad & lonely ones with nobody waiting in line for them.

They go decently quickly. Most stops have 2 CMs working the cameras and there's no autograph books is prolonged interaction, so it's not like the character lines in the parks. I think the longest line I've waited in was maybe 7-8 minutes and it was a pretty big one.

For me it depends on the rarity of the character. One that sticks out from the marathon course was Bolt, Dug & Pluto in front of a dog house. How cute is that?!

Definitely agree with you there. I try to only stop for rare characters (Jack Skellington & Sally, 3 Little Pigs, etc.) or characters that are in an outfit I haven't seen before (Elvis Stitch, Mickey & Minnie dressed as royalty - which is the 7-8 minute-long line I referenced above). That "rule" goes out the window as I get closer to the end and am looking for an excuse to take a little break from running. ;)

Other character thoughts...

For Goofy in 2013, the character line-up was almost exactly the same for the first 4 miles of the half marathon and marathon...I think 1 meet was different. I found that a little disappointing - the first 8 miles or so of the courses are exactly the same so it gets a little repetitive - but I had sort of been expecting it...so whatever. It was good in a way though, because since I'd stopped for who I wanted during the half marathon I was able skip them and bank a lot of time early in the marathon. The locations in the Magic Kingdom were the same but some of the characters were different.

Honestly from what I remember of the 2013 race weekend (I didn't participate in 2014) the consistently longest lines I saw were during the 5K - and I started in Corral B, so I was expecting to get some shorter lines. And now that I actually need to pay attention to that 16:00/mile sweep pace for Dopey I'm preparing myself for the possibility that I'll come out of the 5K with no character pictures.

For me at least I have not had any issues with driving to the race start and have done so multiple times for the half, full and Goofy challenge. Its really been smooth and pretty fast every time. We plan to do the same this year (watch now that I've written this is will gum up on me!) That said, the last couple times I've race Disney, the departure has been really slow. Getting out of the parking lot after the race has taken a really long time. I'm really hoping that has gotten better. We are staying at Fort Wilderness and plan to drive each day.
