Dopey 2015 Official Thread

So it's your fault that all the races are selling out so fast?? ;)

Lol! Thanks for the lol! I am feeling quite sick today but that made me laugh. Okay...I guess my walking that last stretch in Epcot holding a frozen drink and toasting guests with their drinks as I went by did it! That MUST be the reason...all those people must have just went home and signed up for a Dopey challenge! Lol.:rotfl:

Quiet here on the Dopey thread... anyone doing any running out there? Training for other runDisney or fall races? Next Monday will be 30 weeks until Dopey. I noticed Hal Higdon has a 30-week marathon training program and it got me thinking about putting together my Dopey training schedule soon.

"officially" my dopey training starts Labor Day weekend, but I'm training now! Just did a half Memorial Day weekend, have another mid-July, then Disneyland half August 31, my first full end of October and then Dopey :)
My long runs max at 13/14 up until Disneyland weekend then build from there.

I am currently training for a 5-mile 4th of July race. After that I'm training for a half marathon (September 7)...and then starting Dopey training the next day. I wish I had a week off between the half and Dopey training starting up, but what can ya do?!

I'm plodding along with a few weekly maintenance runs. Wine & Dine and the Avengers are up next for me as far as runDisney goes.

I mostly in maintenance mode right now too. Running RnR SJ in Oct for a lower coral so I have a speed 1/2 plan that starts up mid-July. There's a 3 week overlap w/ Higdon's Dopey so I'm using his long run distances and then switching to his after SJ.

Doing W&D and Avengers in Nov. 1st post-race flight out for Avengers so I can get 19-20 in Mon for 1st Dopey practice.

I'm in triathlon training mode now. I have an Olympic Distance Tri next weekend. The a 1/2 Ironman in Sept. I'll be doing a full marathon in Nov, then will just maintain until Dopey. So lots of training here.

Not me. I just ran Comrades and am taking a summer break. I'll get started again in the fall when the weather cools off.

I am always running and always in training for something! I am obsessed with medals so I sign up for too many races :rotfl2:

Since the 2014 WDW Marathon, I have done 4 1/2s, an 11k, an 8k, and a 5k.

My next race(s) is the Dumbo Double Dare so I am "training" for that. Training really just consists of maintaining what I have already been doing and then throwing in a couple of back-to-back runs to prepare for both races. Dopey starts about a week after that!

Good luck everyone!

I'm not going to follow a formal training plan for Dopey. Right now I am training for my first half ironman. After that I will be focusing on my fall marathons. This fall I will be running three marathons, Chicago, New York, and Naperville, which is local. After those races I'm just going to focus on back to back long runs. I did Goofy last year and pretty much followed that same plan and I was fine.

I treat Disney races as fun runs. My goal is to always have fun with them, take lots of pictures, and have enough energy afterwards to party and enjoy the parks!!

So far, all those who have chimed in on their current, and prospective, running and training preparation for Dopey are regularly maintenance-running, training, and/or racing.

Last year, I remember reading here on the Disboards of several Dopey registrants who had little running/training/racing experience. It is neither here-nor-there. I just noticed an absence of newer runners commenting on there current and prospective Dopey training.

By the way, I certainly admire the conditioning of all you triathletes. You stand out at the races (fantastic specimens of balanced athleticism) looking so darn solid and strong!! ::yes::

I am registered for RnR Seattle next week and then Ragnar the following week, so up till now, I've been training for those. Unfortunately (while out on my long run last Saturday), I received a phone call from my mom saying that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. That was a long, terrible walk home!

My mom will be beginning chemo and surgery right away, so I'm heading home to Utah tomorrow to be with her. I'm going to try to find a half to run in Utah while I'm there, if things are going alright. After that, I'll be maintaining for the Discovery Trail Half in Long Beach, WA in September. Then I'll be jumping into the Hal Higdon Dopey plan!!!

My mom is also registered for the WDW 5k and 10k, and she is determined to get well and be able complete them with me!

So sorry to hear about your Mom. Determination is key and I'm sure she will be up to conquer cancer and a little 5 and 10k race. Healthy vibes for you and your Mom.

Sending good thoughts of health and strength and healing to your Mom and to you and others who love and support her

I am in training for a Sept. 1/2 marathon to get a better corral for Dopey. The timing worked out perfectly for the Hal Higdon Dopey training plan as that starts you out at 13 miles. Hoping all goes well this year. I had to defer last year due to an injury.

Fingers crossed for you to have injury-free training, and then the four-day challenge/celebration at Dopey! :cool1:
