Dopey 2015 Official Thread

Hi All -

Just chiming in to say hello and looking forward to Dopey 2015. Timing didn't work out last year and was happy to get in on the '15 sign up - lightning fast sell out. Excited to try out a "made up training plan" and using the summer to start building up some mileage. Also looking forward to engaging in shared progress as we get closer. BAM!

Greetings! I'll be training and running with ClewRunner and am super excited! We have done several RunDisney events including Goofy 08 and 12. Maintaining the base thru the summer, but have the schedule pretty well outlined to start September 1. We are trying something a little new I recently saw in Runner's World where you swap a few long slow runs for basically 2-a-days, but shorter distance. For example, in place if a 10, we'll do a 5 in the am and another 5 in the pm. We'll see. Working on hotels now. Best wishes to all.

I know in years past there have been various attempts at an after party on Sunday evening. Did anyone attend last year and if so how was it? Worth planning to attend? Thanks!

I had every intention of attending. But then I started to roam around the parks and get pics in front of park icons with my medals. Then all of a sudden it was 9 o'clock and Illuminations was going off and I missed it. Maybe in 2015.

I have an ADR at Raglan Road that night so maybe I will get to check it out!

Starting to build my base already. 10 miles tomorrow in the Louisiana swamp. :crazy2:

Awesome on the 10!! I'm still in the land of the base 6 mile run for a couple more weeks. Enjoying it while I can. Run strong!

It is amazing how much affect humidity has on a run. I train in the mid-south and can lose 10 LBs of water weight on 7 to 10 miler. We're ramping up slowly to kick start a Sept 1 Dopey Training plan. Trying to get around 20 miles in each week and consecutive days running as a base. Getting close!

Where are you in the mid south? DH and I are in oxford, ms.

I am not running the Dopey this coming January...(doing the half and then to Disneyland for S.W.)

I know its the same training story with me year after year. No matter how many times I think I am going to take advantage of these nice long summer days, I really cannot. Too hot...the humidity is a killer me. I just cannot take it.

I know I really don't start training for this until September. Cooler and into the colder days where it gets easier tho the days get shorter at the same time.

By the time early December rolls around (and lets be honest, that's not that far away!) I start going for the near whole marathon. Last year I literally did 22.2 miles on a treadmill! Seriously. But I built up to it starting from the fall.

So no matter what race I am doing...right now, even at this hour, its too too hot for me!

It's just a matter of creating a good base for me. I'm not looking to go out and run at race pace right now; just getting the distances. It's tough but well worth it when I can hit the ground running when those 65-75 temps with low humidity come around. I've got a half scheduled in mid-October and a half and full scheduled in back to back weeks in late November. I need to be running now to be ready for those anyway.

I haven't really stopped training/maintaining since I started marathon training last July ('13), so I have a pretty good base built up. I am training for the Dumbo Double Dare in 3 weeks and then will start the Higdon Dopey plan a week later. I am up to ~30 miles/week, although this particular week has been bad. Mysterious calf pain! :confused3

So the official 20 week training schedule has begun! Who all officially kicked off this week? Best of luck to everyone, let's go get us some hardware people!
