Dopey 2015 Official Thread

The worst part is getting up at 3 AM four days in a row... but the feeling you get after crossing the finish line makes it ALL worth it. That's why we are going back for seconds. AND we are also slightly insane too, I'm sure that's part of it.

Jennifer

I find the worst part to be over. Registration day. Between the anxiety of signing up as soon as it goes live, the money that disappears so quickly for something over eight months away, and knowing that I am committing myself to less social life and more/continued running....four 2:30 or 3am wake-up calls is nothing!

I agree 100% - the 2:30AM (for me) wake-up alarms 4 days in a row is the worst part of Marathon weekend.

A very close second...jumping through all the hurdles to buy the runDisney shoes for my wife and I! So worth it though - LOVE the shoes! (Especially since my running shoe of choice is the NB 860 anyway)

LOL! I hear you! I finally snagged me some pink Minnie shoes at the Tink expo, but it certainly took some effort! My family and friends thought I was a total nut job to go through so much for a pair of shoes ("and they cost HOW MUCH?!"), but it was totally worth it! ;)

I'm in for Dopey! It will be my second full and 10ish half-marathon. :cool1:

I'm interested in drinking around the world with a group! As of right now, I am going alone so it will be fun to have people to talk to!

DH & I are in for Dopey!! :yay:

It will be my second full and his third!

I haven't done a runD event since PHM '13 so I am SUPER excited!:banana:

I am excited for those of you who signed up! I signed up for the half but I am pretty sure when the time comes I will be wishing I had just gone ahead and signed up for the Dopey.

I did this...this year....I did get a frozen strawberry margarita in Mexico as I was finishing up the full. I smiled and waved at everyone and even tho I was feelin' it everywhere and was wondering *** is that finish line...I looked like I was having a ball (the photos prove it). I was cheering people and laughing...it felt great that way...but I was hurtin'. It was what I wanted to do..finish with a giant smile! I am going to push that thought through your heads as this year FLIES by.:cheer2:

I had really wanted to finish with a beer this year, but after about mile 18, that was the LAST thing I wanted. I just felt so terrible. I was able to finish with a smile, and even greeted and hugged my friends in future world with a smile, so I am happy about that. Maybe this year!

This will be my first WDW marathon (I'm doing dopey) and it's my goal to get on one ride (preferably Everest) and finish with something "fun" in hand from world showcase... Debating between margarita, beer or giant pretzel !

That's how I am. If I finish with a beer or marg in my hand, it's for show only. :teeth:

I had a goal to get on Everest in 2013, but when I got to the ride I had a last-minute change of heart. I was sure it would totally do me in, and getting into and out of the train would have been a challenge for me at that point. :crazy2:

You also have to time it just right. With the newer course we get into Animal Kingdom earlier. I have a picture of the entrance to Everest from when I ran and I was there at 8:52AM...so I would have had to wait 8 minutes to get on the ride, plus the load/unload and riding time. So that would have been at least 15ish minutes, I think? It wasn't time I wanted to give up at the point.

I'm not gonna lie though...I still sort of regret skipping it.

You know what,I'm going to get a frozen margarita in Mexico for the full in January.I'm riding 7DMT,Everest if possible and I'm getting a margarita.Last couple of years I've done the full have been nearly identical,I'm doing different things next year. One thing I WON'T be doing is going down to McDonalds after AK to get that McFlurry, first of all I'll be nervous about going down there, you never know with all the new security if you'll have an issue coming back up,second,it's pretty far,I remember looking down there and thinking about our friend on these boards who gets a mcflurry every year and it just looked further than I thought. Finally third,I don't see myself craving ice cream at that point in the race, ice cream actually makes me thirsty,a margarita on the other hand I think will go down easily.

I have a suspicion that Everest contributed to my problems last year so I won't be trying it again. I had no problem getting in and out of the ride, and felt fine right after (the breeze during the ride felt GREAT), but I started feeling sick when I left AK and it was all downhill from there.

I didn't even think of 7DMT! Maybe I will try that this year...

Another thread says it will be open to runners in January.

I hope so. Although on facebook, RunDisney's post said "Click ‘Like’ if you’ll be excited to run past the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train during the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon!"

Edited to quote actual facebook post, and not just the version from my memory ;)

OK, ;), McD's not that far, it's just the ramp going down might cause one to faceplant, haven't done that yet but there is next year :rotfl:, and then coming back up it is pretty steep. If a McFlurry would make you thirstier, you could have 2 margaritas. I was going to stop for a beer in WS but was too early.

The police down by the traffic light smiled as I went to and from McD's. Quite honestly, I think RD might think that a person would have to be more than Dopey to detour for a McFlurry, so a security issue wasn't even considered.

I agree about doing something different. When I ran the Goofy in '13...I hit such a mental wall at mile 21...I was totally miserable the rest of the race. No photog would even take my photo..thats how miserable I looked! My head was down and I was thinking...omg where is the f'in finish line!!!

From that time onward I mentally decided to change it up for the following year. I was so determined not to hit that wall..and I wanted to enjoy Epcot and grab a frozen drink. That was goal....So I did that. I did enjoy that maragarita too...and the crowds were great of course. I cannot say I wasn't hurtin' but I did managed a big smile and holding up my drink to 'cheers' the crowds...it was fun. My goal was to have fun and I wanted people to think..wow that looks like fun.. I want to do that next year!

So I say keep that image in your head of your goal so you can do it next year. I totally get the McFlurry. I am not fast enough for a McFlurry...if I was, I would love to do that too! But honestly...the hill down and up was lookin' like Mt Everest at that time.

The McFlurry would be my ultimate goal. If I was fast enough...I would do it. The fact that WS wasn't even open for a beer for you is scarey to me. They were long open by the time I got around there for my drink.
There would be something totally cool to do that for me...get a McFlurry. But I do remember thinking of you when I passed it.

I agree about doing something different.

You should come run with us. We're making shirts listing things to check off during the four races. In addition to the usual pictures with character X ones, we're also putting on ones like cake & Nutella (we're dressing up for a Blerch theme for the 10k); beer stop; Everest; ToT & Aerosmith coaster; and of course a McFlurry and a margarita.
