Dopey 2015 Official Thread

My husband ran Dopey this year and we stayed at the Contemporary. There was a monorail to all 4 of the races - it was very nice!!

That sounds heavenly to get to ride the monorail to the races! I've never stayed at a deluxe before. Hmmm... How can I make that happen? ;)

I rented DVC for BLT, same price as staying at moderate. I'm looking forward to monorail service and a little more time in bed each day (now that you can't walk to the start from POFQ). I'm doing Dopey, DW is doing 5k and 1/2, DD11 and DS8 are also doing the 5k. I think the kids are going to get a great experience from the run!

Oooooh... okay. I hope it works itself out smoothly. Glad you caught it right away.

Thanks..

RunDisney were great, they took a while to respond but a refund was issued, no questions asked. Don't have to run it twice now!

So I knew something like this would happen. I have a funeral to go to on Tuesday and it may not be over by noon. I'm going to see if any friends can register for me, but I'm not sure I trust them! And of course they have their own lives to worry about and I can't be mad if they don't get on the computer at noon. Everyone seems to think Dopey will sell out in 24 hours. Think it will sell out in the first hour??

I know I sound like a jerk for saying this is more important than a funeral, but...it kinda is!

Any DVC/AP holders want to help me out somehow? ;)

I don't think it sold out via AP holders yet- do that's promising that it won't go that fast on Tuesday. I've seen lots of runners say one and done because of 4 days wake up. But who knows?

Well I'm in the Dopey race...:cool1::cool1: Was sitting in the airport on 4/16 on my way down to wdw.. I lost WIFI 3x.:confused3.. then the cold sweat began... am I going to get signed up?? But it worked..The wife wasn't crazy about the cost but she sees it as another family vacation with the kids:rotfl2:(the youngest is 18 years old) but they love Disney. I did the early Disney marathons(2nd through the 6th) in the 1990 's... Then came the goofy race in 2010 which I signed up for.. I trained for this race and was ready.. Those of you who may have been there for this race may be laughing at the strange weather we had that morning...HAIL.. Was doing ok running, however came out of the castle and turned to go down the ramp and slipped .. Ouch.. twisted and tore my ankle up... I limped to the end of the race.. The next morning, my ankle was the size of a watermelon.. You know how hard it is to lie in a bed the next day at 6:00 am at okw listening to the loudspeaker start the marathon race.... Well this is my redemption....That Goofy race was the only race in 25 years of running that I never finished... So I'm driven to finish this challenge.. and so the training starts.....

Oh no! I would be devastated!!! Glad you're getting another shot! This is your year! ;)

Hello, just found this forum while looking on tips for training for the Dopey Challenge. I am already registered. This will be my first disney race, and first marathon. Looking forward to the journey!

Any tips on where to stay and how to make this a smooth an adventure as possible greatly appreciated :-)

I agree with it not selling out in the first 24 hours.

Oddly enough, the only morning that was difficult for me was the 5K morning. I woke up 45 minutes before start time. Needless to say, I am glad I had everything prepped and ready to go the night before and I didn't have to rely upon event transportation!

Have fun. Set realistic goals. Train thoroughly. Stay at a Disney resort if you are not super familiar with the area, it lessens the things you need to worry about.

My only goal is to finish and have fun with my friends. I realize this is not the event to try for PR's or anything.

Unfortunately my mileage is down so i am stating not from scratch but close to it.

Does anybody remember how quickly the Dopey Challenge sold out last year? I was looking for the "Official" thread from 2014 but I'm guessing DIS Boards archives/deletes them after a period of inactivity.

I am very worried about not being able to sign-up. Hopefully, it's an irrational fear. Last year's Dopey was a blast and kept me motivated to run all year.

Didn't it sell out in an hour or something else ridiculously quick last year?

Not that fast. Perhaps the Minnie 10K...I think it was at least 24 hours.

Best I can tell from digging through old posts is that it sold out in less than a week.

I think you're right that the 10K sold out first. I remember the 5K filling quickly too, I guess because of those slots taken by Dopey runners. Will be interesting to see what happens this year.

Dopey took 5-6 days to sell out, if I recall correctly. Make sure to watch runDisney's website/Twitter/Facebook, they will update the race capacities starting when they are 50% full. Once it gets into 90ish% full you really need to pull the trigger!

Thanks jeanigor, FFigawi, Ariel484, and roomthreeseventeen. That alleviates my fears somewhat. I just remember something selling out incredibly quick and thinking how lucky I was to have already registered (last year they did the Disney Visa pre-reg).

I will be queued-up at noon tomorrow to register. I just hope no work-related emergencies pop-up at 11:45!

When the AP early registration opened on 4/16 I was halfway through filling out my information when someone came by my desk to ask me a question. I was just like "UH-HUH...UH-HUH...UH-HUH..." I'm pretty sure I had a total deer-in-headlights look on my face!

I quietly closed my door and taped a sign on the outside saying:

International Webinar
11:45am - 12:30pm
Please do not disturb!

Nobody bothered me until 2pm. I might have to do that more often!!!

NICE. I sit in a cube and don't have a door. :sad1: I should have grabbed one of our conference rooms! :rotfl:
