Do any of you have doorway curtains instead of doors in some rooms? We have a room that's letting in a chill because it's unfinished, plus it's just plain unsightly and I'd like to block the view from the living room.

What kind do you have? I don't want something that looks frivolous or whimsical, and most of the bamboo or beaded type curtains look like that. I haven't been able to find any cloth curtains.

So if you have doorway curtains, what kind is it and where did you get it?

I don't know that beaded curtains would help with the chill. Maybe hang a cloth curtain with a beaded curtain in front of it for that added panache. ;)

We have curtains hanging in the two doorways of our kitchen to keep the cold air in during the summer... window unit air conditioners in a very old house! I actually just bought regular window curtains... made sure they were long enough... and hung them in the doorway with a curtain rod. I think I bought them at Walmart. They work really well.

When we owned our apartment in NYC, we put a pinch pleat drapery treatment over the door that opened out to the hallway and turned the foyer into a dining room. We had a second door that opened up onto a park on the other side of the apartment, so we never really used that hallway door anyway. If you get a drapery lined with 3-pass blackout cloth, it will definitely help keep the cool out. I suggest contacting a local drapery workroom.

we have a door into our master bath that doesnt have a door. I hung 2 gold curtains that match my bedding. They really help with blocking the light out, I would assume it would help with the heat as well.

I have doorway curtains in a couple places in my house. They are just plain curtains from JC Penney and Walmart. We use a tension rod in the doorway.

We used to use a heavy blanket to cover a really wide doorway that separated our old living room from the rest of the house. It did a GREAT job keeping the cold out (when the room was unfinished) and later keeping the heat in (once the room was finished.)

The new HGTV giveaway home has curtains that separate rooms. You might look at those to give yourself some ideas. I would look for 96" (if you have 8' ceilings) on Ebay. A linen would probably work well.
