Taking our first cruise 9/10 and looking for some good door sign ideas.

Thanks everyone.

We bought character magnets at the Disney store and personalized them with Sharpies, one for each member of the family, and a magnetic white board for messages. We left messages for each other, and other people sometimes left them for us. On pirate night, we stuck magnets on the back of cheap pirate stuff from the party store: Jolly Roger flags, a paper parrot, and some plastic gold doubloons. We sailed on the Fourth of July, so for that day we put up red, white, and blue stars, American flag, etc. You can add something fun everyday to match or change a theme if you want--fiesta, beach, tiki, Disney, or whatever. None of our stuff got stolen, but someone else from our DISboard group did have some things taken. Just look for lightweight, cheap items and add magnets to the back with either self-stick magnets or use a hot glue gun.

Also, look for a similar thread on this board. People had pictures of their doors and lots of great ideas.

I have posted on other boards about this. And have questioned it many times on how to do this. I do not have any type of program on my computer to help me make a magnet door sign. :sad1:

I have bought photo paper (dollar tree had a pack of 8X11 10 sheets) for a $1 and magnet paper to put on the back. What type of program/CDROM do I need to buy? I am in your hands.......

Any word processing software will work. I used MS-Word to do ours...

You can print directly to the magnetic paper or just clue on some magnetic strips to the back of the photo paper...

Here is a great thead on door signs: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=838817

For some unknown reason we do not have this on our computer. I have to purchase it.

I'm not sure what kind of magnets you want to make, but I just found character refrigerator magnets at the Disney store. They had Dory, Lilo, Stitch, Mr. Incredible, some princesses, etc. Took them home, whipped out a Sharpie and wrote a family member's name on each--Stitch for DS because he loves Stitch, Dory for me because she was saying something goofy, and Mr. Incredible for DH (to stroke his ego a bit!)

If you want to use something you've downloaded or personalize something you have made yourself or use a photo or whatever, just print it and laminate it at Kinkos or simply put it in a plastic sleeve and add the magnets to the back. I know there are ways that look more professional, but this should require little technological expertise.

I really REALLY wanted to order that Pirates of the Carribean poster that has Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom standing back to back looking really hot :faint:  to put on my door for pirate night, but DH said no. :sad1: So I cut and pasted a copy of that picture from some website. I was going to put magnets on the back, but, unfortunately, the printer gave out and I didn't get it done in time. :badpc: I think DH knew what I was planning and did something to the printer!

I want to download pictures from websites and then add some writing to them. Like the dates of the cruise and our names. I have the green Mickey paint chips from Home Depot and plan on having them blown up to a large size then adding our pictures or names to that. I can do that much but I can not figure out how to do the pictures and add what I want to them. :sad1:

woj68, I've provided a link to a thread that I started a while back ago. There are examples of magnetic door signs as well as links to pictures and fonts to use. Although the thread is long, it is well worth combing through it to inspire you to do your own door sign. I would ask, if you do see a sign you'd like to copy, PLEASE ask permission from the person who created it. Most of us are willing to share grahics as well so don't hesitate to PM that person.

Have fun creating your sign! Here's the link to the thread entitled, What Does YOUR DCL magnetic door sign look like? With other great tips for your sign. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=838817

If you are looking for a program to use, I might suggest Print Shop Deluxe. I have an older version, but it does what I need just fine. I bought mine at Best Buy several years ago.

I figured you would see this and help me out.

I just was being lazy and did not want to hunt the thread about door signs.

I do not have Micro soft works or word on my home computer. I have it on my work computer.

I've been poring over all the pics and ideas from a previous thread and they're all great. Great stuff! Now I have a starting point and will be borrowing ideas from everybody. Thanks.
