Hi yall! Disney cruise newbie here with questions about door decoration! I have loved coming up with door designs for our past carnival cruises and can't wait to tackle this one for our first disney cruise this nov!! But rules are different for doors at carnival, no magnets allowed! So ive done some searching thru these boards. So if I have read right, it's magnets only that are allowed. But I see where most designs are laminated and wondered if that is required or just what people have found wks best with the magnets? Any suggestions or tips for the best strong holding magnets, where and what kind? I've seen people say they're stuff was falling off with magnets. I think we're going with a Ariel theme! My girls fav princess!!

Yes magnets allowed, I use magnetic inkjet paper and laminate them. I find they stick to metal better than strips of magnets. DCL will charge for any dirt or smudges on doors, so laminating them is a good idea so they do not run.

Hum everytime I buy the sheets they wont even stick to each other they are so weak. Do you remember where you got yours at? or a name brand? Thanks

I like the inkjet magnet paper too. Sorry, I can't remember the brand I use but I buy it at Michael's. It's sturdy and holds well. Hope that helps a little!

Ok thanks! I was wondering why everything was laminated! Preventing any stains or chance of colors running now makes sense! Never thought of that! We have a teachers tool store I could pay to get stuff laminated at! Magnetic paper! I never even knew that existed, I'll have to ck it out! Thanks! The wheels in my brain are are turning with ideas to come up with a fun design!!

I sure wish I had a color printer!! Lol!! Maybe I can sweet talk my friend into using hers to print me some stuff!! For things that I need bigger than an 8x10 sheet should just use the self adhesive magnets that stick to the back of the paper? Like her mermaid tail I might need bigger!

Sure, or try the magnet tape. It's adhesive on one side then you cut however you need it and attach. Easy!

I use the magnetic inkjet paper as well & have never had a problem. I've bought mine at Office Depot and it's just their brand.

I think many people laminate so it holds up better. Plain paper could get damaged pretty easily. We use the printable magnetic sheets.

I'm curious - is this the best method if you're not using an inkjet?

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question? I was talking about the magnetic tape as far as adhering other items to the door that the PP was asking about - assuming those were printed on regular paper and laminated somehow. In other words, if you're trying to apply something to the door that isn't magnetic but is lightweight, the "tape" can be useful. Self-adhesive magnets can work well too. Does that clarify? Sorry if I caused confusion!

It does - thanks!

so, you laminate the magnetic paper as well?
Who are you asking?

I print my pictures on photo paper (already glossy) and cut them out. Then put them on the magnetic sheets I buy at Michael's. Then I cut them out again. Yes, a little more work, but that way the magnet stuff doesn't get wasted as I lay out how I'm going to cut them before adhering them to the magnetic sheet. That way there's less waste.

I don't laminate.

I believe the ability to use magnetic sheets successfully may depend on the ship...Wonder doors definitely have more paint, and therefore, can require stronger magnets...

I know I am in the minority here. But we bought one really strong magnetic hook, and hung a Disney themed wreath we had made. We had tons of awesome feedback and will definitely do it again!

For laminating: I use clear contact paper.f
Magnets: I use the magnet buttons and the super strong magnet buttons. I have not had much luck with the magnetic paper.

I have found some really cute things in the scrap book sections in stores like Hobby Lobby. If they are stickers, baby powder takes the sticky off. Then just glue to a magnet.

I use cardstock paper, don't laminate, use my regular printer, and then put magnets on the back. I just buy the magnet tape roll and use a smallish piece on each corner of the cardstock square. I just make my images square/rectangular or circular.
