Dooney & Bourke...Was I the only one that didn't know?

I bought my first Disney Dooney & Bourke purse and matching wallet a couple years ago after finally finding a Disney pattern I liked. Fast forward to now and my major disappointment. The bottom of the purse was falling out at the seams and the zipper on the wallet was broke. I checked into their repair program and decided I would be willing to pay to get each one fixed. Approximately a week later I get a letter stating both are beyond repair. Ok, I really used my purse so fair enough until I called to find out how to apply my half cost of the purse and wallet to a new Disney Dooney & Bourke. That lead to grave disappointment as I was informed I could not replace either with Disney but only with what is sold on their website. Now if I did not want a Disney one, I would have bought off their website to begin with! So am I the only one that did not know that if my Disney Dooney & Bourke was beyond repair that a Disney replacement was NOT an option?? If so, shame on me but hopefully I can educate someone else if you didn't know either. (I was not sure where to post this so feel free to move if in the wrong place).

I had the same thing happen this past fall to my well loved Disney dooney. I did know that I could not get a replacement Disney dooney - you had to get what is on their website. But, my dooney was useless to me unless it was repaired. I sent it in and it was deemed unrepairable.

They gave me a credit to use towards a full price dooney on their website. I did - I found a purse I really liked.

Then, I found my same well loved Disney dooney on eBay for a great price and replaced it myself :)

I bought a Disney Dooney in DS a year or two ago. You can have them replaced? Mine is still in good condition, but I don’t own any other D&B. What don’t I know?

I didn't know about the credit thing, but I did know they will repair, if possible. I have one of the 60th purses and the zipper stopped working. I sent it off and even though it was past the warranty (and I had never registered it - it was my first and I had no idea I was supposed to register it), they replaced the zipper and shipped it back to me no charge. :cool1:

D&B will not replace them but will charge you to repair them if out of warranty unless they deem them "beyond repair". If it is beyond repair, D&B will give you a credit of half the cost of the item to put toward a new D&B but NOT Disney!

Thank you for making me feel better!!!! I thought I was the only one that didn't know! o_O

I wonder why not Disney? Because they have to share a portion of the profits maybe?

I didn't know this either. My Disney Dooney is really starting to show wear and the seams are coming out of the shoulder strap. I have never gotten more compliments on a purse

I have a Dooney & Bourke. I had no idea there was a repair program or that they would give you credit to buy a new one if your purse was falling apart.
Niether did I.

That said, the only higher end purses I have are two Dooney and Burke clutches I got on a DCL cruise in 2011. I carry one or the other pretty much daily---and both still look brand new---I have been rather amazed at the quality.

My Purse is four or five years old. I use it daily and I’m pretty rough on it. That things in perfect condition! It’s going to outlive me for sure! :rotfl:

I figured if it ever did give up the ghost I’d just chuck it cause it certainly doesn’t owe me anything.

These don't really sound like they are beyond repair. Only beyond the time it would take them to repair it to be cost effective for them.

I personally, would ask them to send the items back. I'd take them to a local dry cleaner that does tailoring & repairs. Have them re-sew the seams shut. OR put on a new bottom in a matching color. Zippers are replaceable. Of course, this would render the bag unable to be re-sold as it's been altered. You'd also lose out on the money toward a replacement. But, this way, you can still have a Disney bag to use until it totally falls apart and can no longer be repaired at all.

Per someone pretty high up at D&B it's because of restrictions in the contract they have with Disney. Disney lawyers like to protect Disney's interests above all else, and that doesn't always translate to what's best for companies they partner with and/or the end consumer. Disney does not allow D&B to sell Disney designs direct to consumers, so they don't generally have stock on hand for replacements. I have heard about them replacing Disney designs if they happen to have the correct bag in their warehouse. That probably doesn't happen often though.

I learned this sad sad lesson the hard way too. I guess I'm among those who regularly abuse my D&B products. I did find a replacement with the credit, but also bought a new Disney D&B the next opportunity I had. Lesson learned, I'm trying to take it easier on this one...

All of this is news to me. My Peter Pan D&B purse straps have been peeling for the last 6 months. I've notices this at a few seems as well. Reminds me that I need to rotate it out to save it longer.
