Kathy, I hope you didn't think I was questioning you. I think it's great that you posted your experience with treating the leather. I'm sure that's exactly what people are looking for - personal experiences. Like I said, I messed with mine too, and since the water spots were driving me crazy, I don't regret it.
I just figured it's probably a good idea to make sure people know what the official word from Dooney is.
btw, I think the white balloon bags might use vachetta as well. I don't have anything in that print right now though, so I can't say for sure.

So, I wanted all to know to ignore my advice
. You and I are cool
Yes, I think you are right, the balloon bags in white are the untreated leather. I have two things in the balloon bags but both in black and forgot about the white background ones. Anyway, sorry for the confusion with your post. I just paniced after reading all that on that link

We used good old fashioned saddle soap. Just follow the directions. I did have a mini crossbody, not Disney but Dooney that got all kinds of water spots on the front that had the vachetta untreated leather on it. It was a large flap of leather in the front of the bag. The spots were everywhere and didn't fade with time, so my son treated it with the saddle soap and they all blended together and all the leather matched. I have since sold that purse on ebay and it looked new and the buyer was thrilled with it. It was after that I had him treat my Disney one, the cindy tote sketch and wristlets. They look nice but I still baby them, but I baby all my Disney Dooneys.
This purse I got off ebay smells funny. Not like smoke or pets exactly, but something distinct and odd. Sealing the purse in a bag with a box of baking soda for a day or so didn't help. I have it out now trying to "air it out" but I don't know if that will help. DH suggested Frebreeze, but I doubt I should spray that on the purse. Right? (It's the medium sketch tote.)
Way to go.
Yuck. But airing it out does seem to be helping. I set it out on my back patio for a bit today, but then got paranoid about sun damage/fading. Can sunlight harm the medium sketch tote?
