Dooney & Bourke Disney collaboration ~ part 4

The light color leather on Disney Dooney's is vachetta that has been minimally processed, so D&B strongly recommends not using any kind of leather conditioning or cleaning products on it at all.

That said, I have used distilled water and mild soap to get light water spots off one of my bags. I think it did darken the leather more quickly and deeply than would have happened with time, but I figured that was better than living with the spots.

I'm sorry your tote is not in the condition you were expecting. Have you contacted the seller about it?

We're not allowed to post items for sale here. If you search for Disney Dooney and Bourke on facebook you'll find many Dis board members in that group and we do lots of buying and selling there. ;)

Whoops! I'll check there

There are two Princess Colette bags on eBay with Buy It Now of $500.00 with $15 shipping  So Tammie did so super getting hers for $325 shipped :woohoo:

I just emailed the seller. We'll see what happens. We are actually going to be at DTD at Disneyland next week before our cruise, but I wanted a discount AND good placement. (without ordering multiple bags) Erg! this bag isn't terrible, but I wouldn't have bid what I did if the actual condition had been disclosed. :sad2:

I am going through the same thing right now. I have a red stain near the top corner where the leather has statined the bag and I have pink on two other corners. I called them and since I am stationed in Japan they made me take freakin pictures and email them. I was pissed because the castmember should have put in a replacement order and noted that I would be returning a defective bag. This did not happen. I had to wait three days before someone responded to me. Buy the time I got a response the bag so they say is no longer available. I was offered a gift card. Buy the time I pay to ship the bag back to the store (because of my location I have to send it through the post office) the gift card will be worthless. Plus I used my Disney Reward money to pay for a portion of the bag. No response yet on what is going to happen to my rewards. I don't know if they will refund what I paid or the full amount of the bag. I knew I shouldn't have ordered that bag. UGGHHH!!!

They should either send you a return shipping label or reimburse your shipping. It's a defective bag, not that you don't like it. Ask for someone who can do something, this is unacceptable service! I'm sorry you have to deal with this. They should either give you a rain check for the discounted price or give you a GC for the full replacement, or just send you one when they get them in stock.

Crazy! Who'd have thought? Good that she jumped on it when she could!:cheer2:

Hi Disney Dooney fans!! I have yet to own one but am working on it :) so I wa at the mall today and saw a woman paying in front of me with a Dooney I have never seen! It was sooo cool and I wish I would have has the guts to ask her about it. It did look pretty worn so maybe it's an older one? But it was a wallet or wristlets type...had a small strap and the print was so cool....I saw Peter pan and Alice...words and pictures...like park attractions? Anyone ever seen this before?

I'm wondering if this was the Retro Shag Disneyland 50th edition wristlet? Did it look like this one? I think they're adorable!

Just heard from the seller. She will only accept a return minus shipping. Probably not worth it to return, since I'd be losing like $30, which was about what I was saving to begin with. I do really like the placement a lot, so yay for that. I cleaned up the leather as best I can, and it's acceptable. However, the bag has a kind of funny smell, despite supposedly being kept in a smoke free home, in a closet away from pets. Makes me wonder what else was in that closet! I currently have the purse tied up in a garbage bag with a box of baking soda to see if that helps. Do any of your Dooney bags smell funny? My Dooney cosmetic bag made from the same material doesn't. :confused3

Despite this issue, I am quite excited to see my little collection growing! Like I need one more Disney addiction!

That wallet is so cute and if I had not bought the 40th one I would get that in a heart beat.
I got great placement on the mini comic bag with princess minnie on the front. The cc holder on the other not so good. Still looking for 1 with tink on it if any one has an extra pm me thanks.

That's why I will not buy another light colored Dooney bag. My first Disney Dooney was a medium tote in the sketch print. I loved it except that the white leather picked up the dark blue dyes from my clothes. So on the side that rested against my body a blue tint formed that progressively got darker. Nothing I did would remove it. I used it anyway for a long time but finally retired it to the closet. DH got me a new medium tote for Christmas. It's the Minnie bows print on black. The leather has a different texture that seems tougher than my last bag. I have a feeling I will use this one much longer!

Hmmmm.....so far I've no problem with rubbing off from my darks onto my white dooneys, but I don't do alot of denims.
Maybe it's the denims that are the problem? :confused3

And I carry my small and med dooneys on my arm, that seems to be the Hollywood way nowadays! ;) LOL

Denim is a problem. It rubs off on everything. I have had that happen, thanksfully, not on my Dooneys but on everything else. Denim is over filled with dye unless it is the washed out color. The indigo blue ones have dye coming off forever. The untreated leather on the Dooneys can be treated with leather conditioner even though Dooney says don't. My son researches leather all the time and has treated all my untreated leather as soon as I get it and it helps protect it. Yes, it darkens it slightly, but I personally think that looks nicer. The Dooney leather is supposed to darken with age and that is supposed to enhance it. The conditioning helps protect from stains but indigo dye is subject to nothing and will stain anything lighter than itself.:)

I have light tan leather seats in my car, and denim rubs off on them too! Very annoying, but it was the only color they had in the car I wanted at the time. My dd's jeans are the worst, as she wears some of those dark over-dyed jeans.

I lurk on this thread every day, but rarely participate. I'm a little bit confused, though. I thought the Disney Dooney's were a coated cloth with leather trim. I didn't think the bodies of the bags were leather. Is this correct?

:laundy:
Does anyone happen to know how to clean a Diseny Dooney and Burke purse? I have a white purse with the Disney images on it..problem is, it gets so dirty and the leather straps along with the tassle got wet and discolored. Please help...it's my favorite purse in the world! Thanks!!

I never send the cards in, I do it online. When I had an issue with my satchel there wasn't a registration issue. Did you call Dooney? They're pretty helpful over the phone and quicker than Disney to resolve an issue.

Thanks. I will call them but you said what I wanted to hear!

First, we're glad you ventured out of the shadows!

You're absolutely right. The vachetta leather I was talking about was the trim and handles. The bodies of most of the Disney Dooney bags are coated cotton.

As per Dooney & Bourke:

"The polyvinyl-coated fabric used in Dooney & Bourke merchandise is generally water repellent and may repel most soil.

Should the fabric become soiled, cleaning should be done with a soft cotton cloth or soft toothbrush slightly dampened with distilled water (sodium-free seltzer water may be substituted) and a mild bar soap, applied in a circular motion. Repeat with distilled water only to ensure no residual soap remains. The material should then be allowed to dry completely."

And:

"The pale tan Vacchetta Leather used in Dooney & Bourke merchandise is untreated. This "naked" leather will naturally darken over time with use and exposure to light. Vacchetta Leather requires no creams, polishes or cleansers to maintain its beauty."

As I said before, if you call and talk to them they will very strongly recommend not doing anything at all with the vachetta.

If you're in the mood for a really long discourse on vachetta, this is in depth and seems to be solid info:

Yes, you are correct. We are talking about the leather straps and piping:)

As I have already posted, I have treated my "naked" leather, which is really only the sketch pattern and the Princess pattern to my knowledge. I personally only treated the sketch. (Dyed leather is treated.) The other posts are correcting me on this so please don't follow my advice:lovestruc I don't want to steer anyone wrong. I will say in closing on this topic, my purse, the sketch medium tote, the leather looks fabulous and I don't regret treating it. But again, I don't want to steer anyone wrong so please ignore anything I have said about the leather treating and listen to others on this thread:)
