Spent most of the day so far building some IKEA bookshelves for the computer room as I'm giving it a bit of a revamp. Since DH is working away I thought it would be a nice surprise for him coming home at the weekend!!
Needless to say I've ended up with more than a few injuries. Hammering my thumb, standing on a nail, smashing a glass lamp - and cutting everyone of my fingers picking up the glass, dropped Gone With the Wind (hardback) on my big toe and last but not least.......stabbing myself with a screwdriver in the fleshy bit of my forearm.

Think I should stop..............while I'm still able to make that decision.

For goodness sake Cath, leave this job for your hubby - let's face it he needs something to do when he gets back (hee,hee) then you can stand back and watch him stabbing himself (it'll be better than whats on the telly !!)

The only problems I've had with IKEA furniture is not having enough strength to tighten the screws. I've always found them fairly straightforward to put together - I've probably jinxed any future attempts now!

It's true about it being hard to find your way out though - my nearest IKEA (Croydon) has changed their floor plan giving more chances to escape.

My minimum spend at IKEA is £20 - that's what I end up spending when I don't actually need anything, but their charge for credit cards has curbed my spending a little.

OMG Libby I am so glad it's not just me! I always wonder about all the things I buy at Ikea that I could not possibly continue life without although I managed without them just fine before I ever saw them

I always get home and half the stuff never gets used!!

Ditto! Are there still plans for an IKEA in Exeter, Karen? We have friends in Devon and last time we saw them there were apparently plans for an IKEA at the Marsh Barton estate in Exeter.

Ikea had plans certainly, but Exeter City Council (forward thinking as always ) was not able to "free up" a site large enough for IKEA's needs. In fact, I think the sites the council suggested (Marsh Barton being one of them) were too small by a long chalk.

There was talk a while back about using a site near Willand (15 miles or so up the M5) but I'm not sure what's happened with that? There is a new town being built in East Devon (right on the edge of my village unfortunately) so I guess it's possible it may go there.

Until then, it's M5, M4, M32 for our trips

Had a day off last Tuesday - thought I'd pay IKEA in Warrington a visit around lunchtime. I drove round the (very large) car park twice and couldn't find a car parking space. I inderstand that on a weekend but on a Tuesday? Mad. I only try to go in the week cos my DH won't go near the place. Nearly as bad as World of Disney at DTD - always crazy busy there as well and we always lose each other.

I love Ikea at Croydon .... open until Middnight for all those emergency furniture needs. But impossible to escape from quickly.

One thing I hate about Ikea furniture is I have a bad habit of putting at least 1 nail in too close the edge of the item so the outside bulges a little (think the back of book shelves, draws, wardrobes etc).

Never ever pull a part their furniture or you will never get it back together. Before we last moved my boyfriend pulled about the wardrobe to make it easier on the movers .... 9 months later its still in pieces apparently impossible to put back together.

I have just adopted 2 kittens the one is called Akai but my mom keeps forgetting it and calling him ikea!!!!

Just bought the superking size bed and it was very easy to put together and its heavenly to sleep on
