my husband and i are going to wdw Feb 2-6...we are not big eaters so the basic ddp sounds right - counter lunch and TS for dinner
is this economical? we are staying at pop century with 42% off with the annual pass rate (only around 70 per night inc. taxes/fees)
also - how does free dining work with an annual pass
thanks for any clarification!

Annual passholders are permitted to add the DDP to their reservation w/o purchasing tickets. They call it a ticketless AP package w/dining, I believe.

That does turn your reservation into a package, and changes the deposit/due date/cancellation requirements.

As for whether you should get it or not, I can't really say - we never do a dining plan, but prefer to just use the Tables in Wonderland card (which you can buy - it's $75 and offers 20% at participating locations, mainly TS restaurants but also the value food courts - I assume Pop is included in that).

If you don't already have TS reservations, I would see what you can get before adding a pre-paid dining plan. Your trip is not that far away, and some restaurants book up very quickly. It would be a shame to pay for the DDP and then not be able to get full use out of it.

As the pp stated, you can add dining without adding tickets if you are an AP holder....but there have to be rooms available at that Annual Passholder with Dining rate. So you would need to change your reservation to that particular coded rate (not sure what the code is right now). And yes, it would become a package, so it would be subject to all the rules that other packages are subject to.

The TiW program is good, but only "worth" it if you think you will spend at least $375 on table service meals to justify the $75 cost of the card. And, yes, we have used ours at the Pop food court. But you can't use it at most CS restaurants. And they will tack an 18% gratuity automatically on your bill when you dine at a TS restaurant and use it.

As pp stated, WDTC AP ticketless packages cannot have free dining.
Free dining are WDTC packages. However none are offered for passholders.
With free dining everyone in the party over age 3 needs to buy minimum of a 2-day ticket. And you will have to count on the room charge being rack rate.

thanks for the further clarification...I somehow didn't see the "free" part of the question in the original post!

My response was answering the question about paying to add the DDP if you are an AP holder and don't want to purchase tkts...which is an entirely different matter!! ;)

Same here - we must both have the same excellent reading skills! LOL! Yep, no free dining without having tickets (I almost added that to my original post too but didn't).

Wow, 42% discount is a lot for Pop Century. It's usually 25%, and Villas are 42%. I never get that kind of AP discount.

For me as a solo traveler, AP rate at Pop and paying for the DDP is cheaper than getting the Free Dining Promotion. But if there are 2 or more people in the room, the Free Dining is the better deal.

i'm sorry i typed in the incorrect discount - i have 32% off with my annual pass!
thanks for the responses to my question - i do have the TiW and will just use that and not do DDP
:thumbsup2
