Don't think We'll be Renting a Car for Our Up Coming Trip.

We are going Christmas Week and the rates are insane. We are staying on the monorail so I guess if there was ever a time to be without a car, this would be the trip. I guess we'll cab it when necessary and use Disney transportation the rest of the time. ME here we come!:dance3:

Anyone else not going to rent a car?

We never rent a car, and we always use Disney transport even when we pull the camper down.

What size car do you need? Will an Intermediate size do? Avis has an Intermediate for $226 with taxes ($164 pretax) using code K19906 (from Mousesavers, 100% legit). Add the $30 coupon (MUWA130) on the front page of Avis' website and you're under $200 for the week of 12/19 - 12/26. Compacts are about $20 less and Full Size cars are about $20 more.

Or, you can take DME which is free :). Cabs run about $20 with tip for most WDW trips. We took DME one trip and took cabs from POP to the GF and AKV for dinner and it was about $20 for each ride.

fwiw, we like Disney buses for the most part, though I confess we have not rented a car on either of our trips. You wait more than 10 minutes once or twice during a week and stand sometimes during rush hour, but it doesn't much bother us. ME hasn't lost our luggage and has delivered it to our rooms in a timely fashion both times.

Believe it or not, I kind of like not driving, not parking and not hiking around parking lots for a change of pace. :-)

Those codes were awesome!!! I reserved a full size because my husband reminded me that we have baggage issues.

Can a family of 5 do an intermediate???

Thanks so much for the code!:wizard:
Hmmm ... 5 could fit in the seats but then you have all your luggage. I don't think you'll have enough room. You might fit in a full size car. According to Avis (http://www.avis.com/car-rental/content/carGuide.ac?navId=T4M01S00) is's an Impala which holds 5 people, 2 large bags and 2 small bags. You *could* send your checked bags ahead on DME. There is a "sticky" at the top of the board for that. I don't know what you would do on the way back, though. Maybe you could drop the car off at the Hilton on your last day (or so) and take DME back to the airport.

ETA: It appears from the DME Luggage Sticky that your luggage can take the bus back too as long as your airline participates in the Resort Airline Checkin.

I know :). I'm always working the car rental codes for our annual Christmas/NYE trip! I was booked with Avis for a really long time but I'm now with National. They had a short-lived decent rate at the Dolphin that I jumped on for 12/20 - 12/27. I think I'm paying $179 (with taxes) to pick up a mid-size on Disney property and as an Executive Emerald Club member they will upgrade me to a full-size for free. Then ... we're using my National free rental day to get from TPA to WDW and my DH's National free rental days to get back from WDW to TPA. I think we're without a car for 2 days ... no biggie!

We have yet to rent a car to get around Disney. We needed it to go to Busch Gardens, but have been fine the rest of the time. Good luck with the codes.
