I need some advice before booking. I have a major, I'll call it, "fear" :scared1: of water. How crazy am I to want to go on a cruise? Has anyone ever booked one knowing that they may have to medicate themselves while on the ship!!

Its a big big ship and you can spend most of your time without even seeing water if you would so desire. I am not sure how great your fear is, but you dont have to be in the water at all.

We had a group of 20 on our last cruise, and out of those, two people are deathly afraid of water. We were having a wedding, and they didn't want to miss it, though, so they bit the bullet.
Guess what they found out??
They loved cruising!! To them it just seemed like a really really big hotel. And they actually got so that they enjoyed going out on the verandah, and even looking out over the upper deck railings.
They even took the excursion to Blue Lagoon, although they didn't swim there, or at Castaway Cay, they had a great time!
As for myself, I have a fear of heights, and a fear of enclosed spaces...not like claustrophobia, but the feeling of not being able to go to a different place. (Like get in my car and drive away, go home, whatever) I've been know to panic at baseball games in large stadiums, because to me, it would take forever to get outside. I was a nervous wreck before my first cruise. By the time it hit dinner the first night, I was in love!!
We're now booked for #3 in a 2 year span, and have decided that cruising is my favorite type of vacation.
I know it's impossible to tell you to just relax, but do everything in your power to put it out of your mind until you're there, and loving every minute of it.
Hope this helps a little...:D

I HAVE to medicate myself every trip - I get motion sickness very easily and get very ill. As soon as I step on the Magic and am walking towards my stateroom I feel the ship rocking and rolling. Big motion, and I mean BIG. I don't know how I stay standing. Oh, by the way, we are still tied up at the port and not moving an inch:scratchin. It's my head playing tricks on me, so I take the dramamine to keep the nausia at bay. Love cruising - will continue to do it as often as I can:boat:

For years I avoided water also - I hated the motion and although I can swim, I just get so nauseated that I wouldn't even consider it.

Then a few years ago we tried the Wonder - and it was wonderful! I did use sea bands and bonine since my nausea is for real, but with those, I felt great! And the water doesn't look so intimidating when you are on the ship - it's like a big blue blanket!

Please give it a chance, use your antinausea meds and try to relax - focus on other things for a while, then try to look out at the beautiful vast ocean - it is truly a spiritual experience to see how "small we are and how big the ocean is".

Best wishes!
Rae
