DON'T Read This TRIP REPORT If You're a Princess Hater!

Holy Belle dresses Batman! Sorry I've been watching alot of Batman on the HUB tv channel (we just got it on time warner a few weeks ago). What a great looking dress Janet. Amazing.

LOL! Thanks Mike!

I finished all the fabric flowers now so it's looking almost done. When I get the rhinestones added, I'll post a final photo.

So did you cave and book any of the cheap rates to DL? I was REALLY tempted to ditch all our WDW plans and do it, and I might still regret that I didn't....... I saw photos of that new parade and it looks gorgeous. Then parade at WDW is starting to look pretty old.....

Sadly, no. The fares are still out there too! It's just not in the budget I'm afraid. I've been showing my wife your Mount Rushmore photos and that is a place she has always wanted to go to. We usually try to take a weekend trip around Labor Day somewhere in the four state area. She has been mapquesting and really looking up things. I think she has her heart set on it. We would both love to go back to DL but the kids really want to come along this time and that would bump expenses out the roof. It's tough having three kids for traveling expenses. Sooooo. How bad was the drive other than the flooding? Where did you stay in the M.R. area?

I told my wife today that I wish Southwest would take away those cheaper fares because I want so bad to go back. I need to be smart though. I know that DCA is torn up pretty good right now. I just need to be patient and look forward to next year.

Well, I don't think you'd go wrong taking a short trip up to Rushmore. We tried to stay at quality/comfort Inns since they were doing a stay 2 nights/get one free promo and my husband is taking my son on a short trip soon to visit some ball parks. I think we had some trouble deciding on a place near Rushmore though. There were a number of independent motels we saw once we were there, but there was just no way to tell from a distance how they would be. We ended up staying at a Holiday Inn Express in Hill, SD. Even that was $125 for the night I think.

Maybe or SD resident here on the thread could chime in???? You know..... if she's not off to Asia yet........ :rolleyes1

Are you going to drive into the Badlands or Black Hills? Don't miss the Iron Mountain Highway in Custer State Park. That's where the tunnels are with Rushmore in the distance.

What sort of telephoto lens do you have? I really found I needed the reach of my Tamron 18-270 for the wildlife we saw along the way. If you need something long, don't forget about rentglass.com here in town.

I totally understand (as you might guess) about how costly it is for 5 to travel. I was sad though that the boys didn't want to come along to Rushmore with us. But they're 16 and 18 and loved the independence of being home by themselves.

I appreciate your vote of confidence on a PTR...... and I've thought about it. But I'm not Jen. I can't do 10 trip reports at once......... :lmao: Heck, I can barely do one! :rotfl2: If I decide to do one though, I'll be sure to let you all know.

Speaking of which, I just realized tonight I have some more work to do on our park days for December. I had us slotted to do DHS on a Saturday. I chose it because it's one of the few days that week with no Fantasmic. But I forgot it's an early EMH. And that late in the week, I doubt we'll want to do that. Nor do I want to get there after everyone else. Hmmm..... and just when I thought I had it all figured out.........

LOL! I am sooooo behind right now. Still 2 pages to catch up on. I had to laugh though. I am so far behind and then I start a PTR on top of that. As you can see, my updates have slowed way down this week.
And I don't see me working on it at all today either.. In fact, I just finished Calire's recital pcitures and uploaded them to order and then I'm getting off the computer till probably this evening. I am going to finish catching up with you though!
I love the lion king pictures. Amazing. I took some a few years ago that were pretty decent, but nothing like that. I have learned more since then...so I should give it another go in the future.
I'm loving all the character meet and greats too. Do the CM's take the pictures of you with Katie with YOUR camera? I am always nervous about handing mine over.

I forgt to mention I love that new Belle Dress. It is looking good!!!!!!

And that pic of Katie in her younger years with Pocohantis is just so cute. She looks so little. Then I got sad, because In a few years I will be looking back at little pictures of Claire....well I do have ones from when se was littler too and they are so cute, but I miss those days somedays. Her first trip. she had such silly hair...not much and hardly anything on her sides. :rotfl:

I suppose I could crawl out of my cave again to see what up

So Mike how much you looking to spend, how many peeps, and what kind of feel you looking for cabin, hotel? Do you plan to stay the whole time at the same place? or do you want to move around?

Right now the plan is to arrive on the 10th. But I've held off booking flights until I find out what sort of discounts and blackout dates they offer in December.

Cool. We'll just miss you so. We'll be leaving on the 8th

Thanks Jen! Yes, I give my camera to the CM's. Some seem quite fine with it, some don't have a clue how to even twist the lens to zoom in if needed. So mostly I have it ready to go, the point to the button for them to push. By the time I hand it over, I usually have taken a few myself, so it's ready to go.

The Lion King show is awesome. My apologies to anyone sitting near me.......as I can't keep myself from singing along......... :rolleyes1 I hope you get back soon and can give it another go. After seeing how you did on the show pics on the Dream, I'm sure you'll come back with some great stuff!

And thanks again!

I know how you feel. Boy, do I know. It's all gone WAY too fast. And it seems the world really wants them to grow up way too fast.

I was going to post a couple photos here from our very first trip to meet some princesses. Katie was just shy of 4. But then it just dawned on me that I wasn't digital yet. First I'd have to FIND the photo.... then scan it....... Man I love being digital now.......

I suppose I could crawl out of my cave again to see what up

Over the past three days I have read through your entire trip report and I LOVED everything. It looks like you and your daughter had a blast! I loved all of her dresses!

Geez with your fancy dresses and Jen's recital photos, you guys almost have me wanting another child, just so I can have a girl to do all those girly things with :lmao: Almost.

LOL! I understand.......Jen has me wanting to run out and enroll Katie in dance class!

Finally caught back up!

Janet the Snow White and Belle dresses are gorgeous! Katie will be so lovely in them.

Your pictures once again amaze me. Can't wait to see more.

Good evening! Thanks for a brilliant and beautiful peak at my December (well, minus all of the gorgeous dresses - DD will maybe wear one princess dress, but the rest of the time she's basically a jeans and t-shirts, though special DISign t-shirts, kind of girl). My DH doesn't do Disney save the one trip we got him to go along with in 08. So, it's just me an Terra (8). This year though we've got Little Miss Deva to join us so I get to do the baby princess Disney thing again too. I thought maybe I'd offer to sit and sing with you at Festival of the Lion King, but sounds like we'll be gone before you get there.

BEAUTIFUL dresses all around! I'd love to be able to sew half as nicely, but at least my girls like what I make. Deva (1) will be wearing the one princess dress I ever tried come Nov/Dec though - Snow White, Terra's first Halloween costume.

Knowing just how wonderful and special my trips are with Terra, I know just what yours might be like. Oh so special, isn't it. :goodvibes

Oh yeah, I guess the princess thing does pop up every now and then as Terra is begging to do Bibbity Bobbity Boutique. Thanks for the great pictures you posted of that day. She had been wondering what it would be like.

Can't wait to hear the last bit of the trip and read more on your photography advice as well. (I dream of being a good photographer even more than I do a good seamstress.)

I read through your entire trip report in a day!

Just curious... are you by chance adopting? I promise I'll pay my own mortgage and clean my room! :teeth:

Your mother/daughter trips look like soooo much fun! And those outfits.. oh my goodness!

Your daughter is one VERY lucky girl!

Thanks Vanessa! I tried to rhinestone Belle today but ran woefully short....

I need to catch back up to your trip report too. I need to see if your Disney plans have been firmed up! :cool1:

I'm getting in the mood to get scrapbooking again.... if I can remember how! It's been way too long.

Hi! and :welcome:

I'm glad you enjoyed the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique photos. How wonderful to get to enjoy Disney with TWO little princesses. And how special that your newest princess can wear big sister's Snow White! Actually Snow White was the first princess costume I ever made Katie. She was 3 and wanted to be a witch for that Halloween. Then when I showed her the sheer sparkly spider fabric I bought and she squealed "That's scary!" and just like that we changed direction. I had spent $20 on that piece of fabric, but I sure didn't want to put a lot of work into it and have her too scared to wear it. So I went the one direction I knew would be safe........ princess. I'd attach a photo, but alas........ it was pre-digital. If I get it scanned, I'll add it later. I have a 10 x 13 of it hanging in my sewing room, but that's too big for the scanner! Maybe I'll just snap a photo of the photo.......

I read through your entire trip report in a day!

LOL! A few years ago you might have talked me into adopting one more (well, maybe not an adult....... and granted the offer to pay your own mortgage and clean your room is REALLY tempting..........) but with 2 teenagers in the family........ life is already challenging enough! :rotfl2:

Thanks for reading along! :welcome:

Hi Janet!

I have gotten a little more than half way through this trip report and I just wanted to say... You are amazing! Katie is a very lucky little girl! I have a six month old baby girl and your posts give me inspiration to sew and that is saying a lot considering I am seriously bad at it. Ha! :rotfl2:

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can truly see the labor of love and the fun you two have together! Bravo!!!

Heather

So Mike how much you looking to spend, how many peeps, and what kind of feel you looking for cabin, hotel? Do you plan to stay the whole time at the same place? or do you want to move around?

Very early planning stages, if we go at all. $$$ seem to be flying out the window lately with kids teeth, home stuff, and bills. If we do go it would be a labor day weekend thing. Moderate hotel (say around $100), we have five in our family, and would want to see Mt. Rushmore and Black Hills. What else would you suggest? Probably drive up on a friday afternoon/eve, see Mt. R on a Sat and then its all up in the air.

Well since you are on a budget I might suggest Staying at the Mt. Rushmore KOA; they have a cabin that sleeps 6 people. There is no bathroom attached but it does have showers and such nearby, plus the place has tons of fun things for the kids to do and you are literally right next door to Mt Rushmore and very close to Hill City and Keystone. Besides that I would suggest a tour at Jewel Cave, second longest cave in the world and then spend the rest of the day driving through Custer State Park, maybe even have lunch at the historic State Game Lodge, while in the park you will want to take your time and do the wildlife loop, then drive needles Highway and Iron Mountain Rd. Also depending on how you are arriving to the hills you could visit Badlands National Park on the drive in or out as well.

If the KOA idea sounds to rustic let me know and I can suggest another place, though with it being Labor Day it might be hard to find lodging.
