17 Days!!!

Itching to start packing, but going in summertime means that we are wearing the clothes we'll wear on vacation...and that means I have to be patient

(waits for comments from the peanut gallery...)

DD13 did great getting her braces on yesterday...think she's regretting being excited about it though

Only two or three other "big" things on the calendar until vacation! Dr. appt on Wednesday, Dance Camp for DD10 next week and guidance counselor meeting for DD13 to change schedule on the 12th....

I feel your pain! I'm at 35 days and itching to start packing! We're in the same boat though, summer clothes!

Hey all! I have read some things of people being in magic band test at some resorts (including YC) for August- anyone here have any info? We stayed at AKL earlier this month and saw some people at the pool with them, but didn't hear anything about it. We check into YC on Aug 29, wonder if we will be able to participate- if any of you know, when and how were you notified? TIA!!

Hello, long time no post. After our fab wedding trip last year we are giving Disney a miss this year and staying in Europe. But, next summer we are back to the US and our 1 year countdown is growing ever closer. We are currently booked for 9 nights on I Drive and 12 nights at POFQ. However, since the refurb I am no longer feeling the magic of FQ and the wobbles set in on Friday. I am in touch with my wonderful travel consultant and a move to Yacht Club is looking a go-er. DH is having kittens over the extra cost on an already pricey vacation ( flights are just sheesh) but I'm telling him it will be money well spent and I will be so much happier. So, with a bit of luck and a good following wind, I hope that soon I will be back avidly reading every post on this thread and getting more and more excited over our trip and hopefully will get to meet some more wonderful Disers.

... I think I may cancel my trip. My little sister is having her first baby. She is 4 days late at this point with no signs of having the baby anytime soon. They said they will induce on Thursday. I think I want to be here right after the baby is born. I mean, I want to be at SAB but if she doesn't have the baby until Thursday night , then I would only have Fri and Sat before leaving to go out of town. I am so excited for my new niece. I just don't think I want to leave so soon

IDK what to do. My mom says go on the trip but I am torn

I'm doing a split stay at the YC/BC this time, though I'm only at the YC for one night (8/30). On Thursday I was able to pick FP+, and on Friday I got the pop-up telling me to customize bands. I was able to do that, and I've got bands ordered for the 5 of us. I was able to pick FP+ for the entire length of our stay, though 8/31 through 9/7 we will be at the BC.

I have no idea if our Magic Bands will work at the BC or if we'll need to have both KTTW cards and the MBs during the stay.

So, in about 12 hours, the car will be packed and we will be hitting the road to Orlando. (a banana for each person). Just want to take this opportunity to thank all of you in this BC/YC community for your helpfulness and humor. The broken toe, though still purple and black and green and a little blue, is healing quite nicely and I managed to walk from 57th down to 30th and walk the high line to the end at 14th st? and back up to 57th yesterday so I think I'm ready for whatever Disney can throw at me. We're checking into Comfort Suites tomorrow afternoon and then the following morning we'll be checking into YC.
Thanks again for drawing me out of lurkerdom and selling me on YC/BC SAB, can't wait to get this party started.

thank you all for all the great info on this thread! i really do try to keep up but it moves so fast. we arrive for our first stay there in less than three weeks- we can't believe how close it is! we know we will love it! we changed our res to CL and are very excited about that, as well.

Work and moving (home AND office) have been so crazy that I didn't realize how time was flying by. I'm so excited to be at BC in 7 days . It's a short trip, and I'm particularly pleased that my mom is coming with me and my daughters. She spent almost all of our last trip sick in her room. She had a military ticket and only used one day--and that was just for 3 hours. Hoping she will see why we love Disney after this trip!

What are people's favorite breakfast spots? We like a real breakfast on vacation, but am looking for something quicker than a sit down. With the heat, i want to be at rope drop, then be at the pool or inside at mid-day. Is the Marketplace good? Somewhere on Boardwalk? Oatmeal, eggs, etc.

There isn't much of a real counter service option in the BC/YC/BWI area for breakfast. Here is a link to the Marketplace Menu, which has a few choices, including oatmeal:

There are also breakfast sandwiches and bakery items at the Boardwalk Bakery. The Ale and Compass at the YC has a continental breakfast option.

The best choices for a real breakfast are table service options. The Captain's Grill has a great breakfast buffet and some other delicious items. And of course there is the character breakfast at Cape May, which is excellent but not in any way a "quick meal."

So here's my confession: I have been trained in homebirth midwifery. I was close to getting certified before I got sick...here's my 2c

Give your sister a little time and space with the new baby before you visit them. You never know when baby will actually come (even if she is induced on Thursday, as a doula I saw many 3 day inductions). Your sister will need much more help in the weeks after the birth than just in the days. Listen to your mom! Go on *your* vacation and visit new baby when you get back.

1. Show up to the hospital with homemade cookies after the baby is born. She will love you forever. (If you're already on vacation, leave them for your mom to take. Just don't let her get credit for your cookies.)

2. Then go away, on vacation or back home if it's not time for your vacation yet. Seriously. It's ok. Too much company is overwhelming, for both her and the baby, and she's going to have plenty. She's going to need help later, when everyone else has abandoned her, and when you swoop in and do the laundry and wash the dishes and let her have a shower, she will love you for forever times two.

3. As for holding your niece, your sister will kill you if you wake her up anyway. I promise. Plus, you can (again) swoop in later and hold her while your sister gets to eat an entire meal while it's hot (a meal that you will have brought), and she will love you forever times three.

I'm not an expert like Simba's Girl, but I have a sister, and between us we have 5 children. We've figured out the drill!

I have a question for the folks getting the bands...did you all do online check in? I'm coming in on 8/31 to BC but don't want to risk any chance at all of getting the bands. My online check in is forcing me to assign a pin which we never do charges on our ktw cards.

I did not do online check in. I have not received my official test notice either but I had customized my bands online and they were delivered last week. We are staying at the YC 8/20 to 8/30.

Just having a baby recently myself (my LO is just over 4 months now), I appreciated the fact that my family all lives out of state. It was really nice to have peace and quiet and not have to "entertain" anyone that came through to see us in the hospital. During our 3 day stay, we had one visitor and it was for 5 minutes. Even after we got home, baby was over a week old before we had anyone visit us and it was the best thing (just happened to work out based on how the weekends fell). It takes a few days home to figure out a routine. I highly doubt your sister will be upset with you for not being there right after the baby is born. My sister and I are EXTREMELY close and I'd probably give her space until she was ready for me to help out/see the baby.

Right now the people getting bands are all staying at YC between 8/2 and 8/26? 29? -- I can't remember. From what I've read, the current test is at YC, AKL, POP, and one other place I forgot (but it's not BC). Sorry!

I agree with the others and say you should go. My second grandson (he will be 2 this year) had the nerve to be born early while I was on my girls only Disney trip. While I was disappointed I wasn't there the day he was born, it all worked out fine. I bought him his first ears and of course several other things and visited him when I got home. I do know it is a tough decision. Whatever, you decide will be the right choice

That is a total dilemma! Is this your 1st niece /nephew? When my sister (were bffs, talk daily, live a few miles apart) had my nephew I was there at hospital, stayed well past when everyone else left hospital & was at my sisters home when he came home & helped everyday. You know your family best & how much help your sister would accept. My sister wanted lots of help, lol! If your sisters private she may want time alone. Ask your sister & see what she has to say.

When my SIL had my other nephew, I was at hospital, but then she wanted space at home before having visitors.
