Any suggestions as to what to "don't miss" and also what to "don't bother" with while we are on our first ever WDW trip this May? Our kids are 10boy, 8boy, and 6girl. All are daredeviles and will ride anything they are tall enough for. We've never been to any of the parks, so it's all new to us. So please everyone list one "don't miss" and one "don't bother" for each park (feel free to list more if you have the time and energy). Thanks a bundle! ;)

MK: Mickey's Philharmagic (I have a 11 yr old son and 9yr old daughter btw), all the Mountains, Pirates, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, Spectro, Share a Dream Come True Parade, Wishes.

Don't do's at MK: Dumbo, I mean its a famous Disney ride but don't waste too much time in line (which builds first thing and never stops). It lasts about a minute and half and given the age of your kids, might not be worth the hassle. But then again, its such a Disney classic! We don't usually ride it because we hate lines. Also Country Bear Jamboree. We like it fine but only do it when we have done everything else. Aladdin's Magic Carpets, its just like Dumbo but you are on a carpet. Tiki Room, we have seen the better version at Disneyland, the WDW one is kinda lame. But if you need a place to cool down and rest it comes in handy! Alot of people will tell you skip Stitch, but if you have Stitch fans you might want to check it out, just don't stand in a long line!

MGM: Must do's: Rock N Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Star Tours, Great Movie Ride. The Stunt shows get mixed reviews, we enjoyed the Indiana Jones one, your 10 yr old boy would probably love it, my 11 yr old did. My 11 yr old also loved the Lights, Motor, Action one too. Fantasmic! for sure. My whole family loves this show and can't miss it. Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Beauty and Beast are musts for your daughter. Although my son enjoys those too, especially Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

Don't do's for MGM: Muppets 3D. My kids aren't familiar with the Muppets and hated that show. They also thought the backlot tour was boring except when they sprayed about 10,000 gallons of water on the ride vehicle. We rode it once and probably won't again. The Stars and Motorcars Parade is boring to my son, my daughter likes it okay. Its the cheesiest Disney parade I have seen.

Epcot: The whole Future World section. My kids love everything, especially Test Track, Mission Space, Soarin and the Universe of Energy, they also enjoyed the Living with the Land boat ride and the Circle of Life movie. Both of those can be done while you wait for your Soarin fastpass to come up since they are located in the same building. In World Showcase, The Impressions de France movie. My kids enjoy this, its very relaxing, you can sit down and the screen is circular which is cool. American Adventure is very intersting but my son always falls asleep! Daughter loves it though. They also like Maelstrom in Norway and the Mexico boat ride (that one seldom has a line). Illuminations is a must too.

Don't do's: World Showcase is something my kids get bored in except for the above things I mentioned. Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Its a bit dated and takes awhile given the length of the preshow.

AK: My kids love everything at this park. Obviously Dinosaur and Safari are musts but they also love Primevil Whirl. Festival of the Lion King is great as is the Jammin Jungle Parade. My daughter loves the Pocahantas show, its not the best but she thinks it is!

I guess Triceratop Spin is something they skip, its Dumbo on a Dino. I also don't let them play all the games back in Dinoland, they are so expensive. If you are staying onsite your resort will have an arcade, way better useage of spare change!

Wow, that was long. But our kids are close in age so I just though I'd give you our run down's! Have a great trip!

Edited to add, I see you are staying at POR, my kids loved that resort. The pool is awesome with a great slide. We rented a surrey bike one day and they had a ball. Great choice on your resort!

How exciting! I LOVE WDW and love to hear about people going especially for the first time. This may be tough for me, the don't bother part, but here it goes:
(By the way, fireworks at each park are unspoken don't miss...I can't believe the number of people I talk to who went to WDW and didn't see ANY fireworks...Illuminations and WISHES are must see's...and Fantasmic)
MK: Don't miss Haunted Mansion
Don't bother Snow White's Scary Adventure

AK: Don't miss Festival of the Lion King, I might have said expedtion everest, but I haven't been on it yet.
Don't bother I guess if I have to pick something to skip here it would be triceratops spin, since it is the same as Dumbo.

Disney MGM Studios: Don't miss ToT
Don't bother Playhouse Disney
EPCOT: Don't miss Soarin', Soarin', Soarin'!! (I really like Soarin'!)
Don't bother I'm sorry, this is my favorite park and I can't think of anything to skip here. We spend 2 days here everytime, at least 2.

Have a wonderful time. I'm only listing 1 of each, but there are so many things I must do everytime I go.

Lori

I disagree about skipping World Showcase. If your kids like to do any types of crafts, the mask activity is really great. My kids do it every year and I did it myself this year. It was fun to have something to look forward to in each country.

I also disagree about skipping the Muppets. My boys love the muppets and this is one of their favorite attractions. It is a 3D show and lots of fun.

The Tiki room is a classic and my oldest DS loved this when he was little. Now that he is older it is something that he insists on every trip.

My list of things to skip is relatively short:

MK: Dumbo. I agree with the idea that the lines area always excruciatingly long for a very short ride. Also, the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. The lines are always long and the ride is not that great. The fumes from the place give me a headache.

Epcot: Not really sure. This is our favorite park. I would probably say Spaceship Earth although you have never been here. It is not that great of a ride. We love World Showcase, Innoventions, Test Track, Soarin', Universe of Energy and my youngest loves Figment and the Journey into Imagination.

MGM: We also have started to really like this park. There are lots of things for everyone to enjoy. Not sure what to miss.

AK: Last time we skipped the Rafiki thing. We have done it before. The train takes you over there and there is a petting zoo, etc. Not really much interested my kids.

I hope you have a wonderful time! Welcome to your first trip to WDW!

don't miss at mk: buzz fun for all and interactive so different than most
do miss at mk: snow white.... boring and cheesy

don't miss at mgm: rnr or tot
do miss: my least favorite park so take your pick of everything else, probably the stunt show ( blah blah blah) although your boys may like it lots more than me

don't miss at ak: impossible since i liked it all but if ee is open how could you not go!
do miss: parade ( mainly cause it 's so stinking crowded!!! :crowded:

don't miss epcot: eating at one of the ws places
do miss : i like it but it's boring to kids..the land ride (and/ or movie if it's still there now that soarin opened

Theres not too many that I think are misses.. The only two that come to mind is Dumbo in MK.. the lines are always horrible!! There is the dinosaur one called Triceratop Spin in Ak that is the same thing except Dinosaurs.. we decided to ride that one instead and barely a line.. and Swiss Family Treehouse.. Its not a ride, you just walk thru the treehouse.. both are in MK..

Dont miss:

MK: Teacups, Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Philharmagic
MGM: Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster and Star Tours
Epcot: Test Track, Soarin (havent rode yet, but have been told by many), Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy
AK: Its tough to be a bug, Kilimanjaro Safari, Primeval Whirl and definitely Festival of the Lion King

Can someone tell me more about this? I've never heard of it and would love to have something that would get my kids more interested in WS.

Don't bother with Stiches Great Escape unless you like sitting in the dark and being burped on!!!

In every country there is a mask station called Kidcot fun stations or something like that. In every country they get something different to decorate their masks with like beads, feathers, etc.

I understand your feeling this way, the OP asked for opinions and I gave mine is all! Just as you gave yours. For instance I could never suggest skipping Spaceship Earth (can't believe I didn't mention that in my original post in fact ;) ), but to you its boring. Everybody's different. The "misses" I mentioned are merely the things my family doesn't enjoy quite as much and will do only if we have an extended visit. The Tiki Room at WDW is just not as special to us as its "New Management" is not as enjoyable to us as Disneyland's original. And we don't skip World Showcase, we just don't spend vast amounts of time in each country. The masks were fun to my kids at the first couple of stops, then they lost interest. Maybe they were just too old for that type of activity. To each their own!

MK: Don't Miss: Haunted Mansion(but don't wait in a long line just come back later), Peter Pan, Philharmagic, Mountains, Buzz Lightyear (Your boys will especially like seeing who can earn the most points), and the TTA
Don't Bother: Stich (stich is nothing like his adorable movie self), Dumbo, Carpets, and Astro-orbitors(although if you just have to do one of these 3 ride Astro-orbitor), and Speedway (I agree that the fumes are awful, the wait is long, and the cars only move a few miles an hour and not very well at that)

EPCOT: Don't Miss: Mission Space, Soaring, Test Track, Innovations (an interactive arcade area, My favorite thing is the Where's the Fire game, and you can also build plastic robots- this is a great place to go in the heat of the afternoon) and Imageworks at the end of the imagination ride(if they bring along email addresses they can send pictures to friends or family- also a great way to get a picture of the whole family for free)

Don't bother- Universe of Energy (unless you need someplace to nap out of the heat), some of the movie (watching all the world showcase movies is too much for children in one day most are standing only and they show the land and history of the country, I have seen all but France's but even I can't handle too many in one day.)

MGM (my favorite park my husband's least favorite)
Don't Miss: Tower of Terror, Rock n' Rollercoaster, Star Tours, and the Animation Area(where you learn to draw a character), The Little Mermaid show is really neat and is inside and has seating
Don't Bother: Playhouse Disney(your children are too old to wait in line for this) or Trying to get your boys into Beauty and the Beast (you may want to have the boys go somep[lace with Dad and take you daughter here)

AK:Don't Miss: Expedition Everest(best coaster yet), Dinosaur, and Safari
Don't Bother: Tricratop Spin (Dumbo w/ dinos)

Depending on the num,ber of days you will be at Disney and with carefully planing you can get most everything in but you should have each person look at the shows and rides and choose 1 or 2 they don't want to miss and make sure you plan on those.

Thanks! We'll have to do that next time. My 6yo would love it.

I guess it depends on how long you will be there. If your there for 1 day in each park then your "misses" list will be longer than if you are there for longer. We go for 2 weeks so we try not to miss too much. That said, even when we go for 2 weeks we can't see it ALL!

I don't know if I'd say miss anything on your first visit. Everyone is different. But if I'd have to pick some things here goes.

MK-Must Do's- Mickey's Philharmagic!, Splash Mtn, Space Mtn, Big Thunder Mtn, Buzz.
MK-Misses-Tree House, Stitch (the belching part makes me sick)

AK-Must Do's -Expedition Everest (have never done myself), Kilamjaro Safari, Dinasaur, Primeveal Whirl, Festival of the Lion King
AK-Misses-(Maybe) triceratops spin and maybe Rafiki's Planet Watch. We still do them and we enjoy doing them as a family.

MGM-Must Do's-TOT, RnR Rollercoaster, Beauty & the Beast, Millionaire
MGM-Misses-Playhouse Disney

EPCOT-Must Do's-Soarin( Do many times), Mission Space, Test Track, Crush's Turtle Talk, Spacehip Earth and almost everything in the park.
EPCOT-Misses-Not too much I'd miss. I wouldn't wait for the Nestle Cookie baking in The Land.

Don't miss the Muppets. If you kids don't know them, check out one of their videos from the library before you go. After they learn the character names, the 3-D show will be much more entertaining. We see this show at least 3 times each trip.

As far as World Showcase, I have found that this is where I have been able to take the best character pictures with my kids. Pooh and friends and Mary Poppins are in the UK, Princess Aurora, Belle, and the Beast are in France, and Alladdin and Jasmine are outside of Morocco. The waiting times are not bad at all.

How exciting! here is my list, but I must preface it by saying that I don't have kids. But my DH and I are both kids at heart so I hope that counts.

MK don't miss: Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Philharmagic, Country Bear Jamboree, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Wishes, SpectroMagic.
MK don't bother: Dumbo, Aladdin, the Tiki Birds Under New Management

EPCOT don't miss: We love world showcase! Also, don't miss Spaceship Earth, Soarin, Turtle Talk, Test Track, Universe of Energy, Living with the Land, Illuminations
EPCOT don't bother: Ice Station Cool, Journey Into Your Imagination

MGM don't miss: Tower of Terror, RnR, Great Movie Ride, Indiana Jones, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasmic, Voyage of the Little Mermaid
MGM don't bother: Backstage Tour (it's so short now due to the car stunt show)

AK don't miss: Festival of the Lion King, Flights of Wonder, Kilamanjaro Safari, Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, Maharajeh Junkle Trek
AK don't bother: Tarzan (although I think it's closed already, thank God).

Have fun - you must write a trip report. We'd love to hear from a first timer.

PamNC

The only 2 things I can say are a definate DON'T BOTHER is Stitch's Great Escape.....it's horrible and the tourist trap at AK "Chester and Hesters"

The other thing that might make the World Showcase more fun for your older kids is an Epcot Passport. They sell them in most every WS store. They have a page for each country and a stamp I think. Much like the character autograph books they have room for a cast member from that country to sign the passport. The kids could ask a native CM in each country to sign "hello" or "have fun" or whatever in their native language.

My niece will be seven when we go next and I'm going to get one for her this time.

I agree with the others that the WS is very fun and has something for everyone. Make sure you get a time schedule and try to make a couple of the side shows like the Chinese acrobats or the balancing act in France.

Have fun!!

Also in the World Showcase- I am a Beatles fan and I insist that my children are as well :teeth: Anyway, the British Invasion is a very good Beatles tribute band and puts on several shows a day behind the gift shop area in Great Britain area. You can also find the Winnie the Pooh characters and Alice and Wonderland Characters in these gift shops. Off Kilter in Canada is also very good.

Don't Miss:

MK: Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Mickey's Philharmagic, Carousel of Progress

Epcot: Soarin', Test Track, Ellen's Energy Adventure, movies in France & China, Spaceship Earth

MGM: Tower of Terror, Rock n Roller Coaster, Beauty and the Beast, Great Movie Ride, Little Mermaid (if you love the movie only!)

AK: Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur, (dunno about Expedition Everest)

Don't Bother:

MK: Stitch, Peter Pan, Snow White

Epcot: movies in Canada and Norway, that stupid Timon & Pumba environmental thing in the Land pavillion

MGM: Sounds Dangerous, the Stunt Show, the Indiana Jones show, Star Tours

AK: the parade -ug. I think the Safari ride stinks, but everyone else loves it.

As a first timer, I would advise you to try most everything you can once. Don't miss a thing unless you are pressed for time.
Some of the things people said stank really don't stink the first time. After about 4 or 5 they do yes. But not the first.

Nevertheless here's my must do's and if I didn't have enough time to get everything in what I would skip.

MK
Must Do Splash Mountain.
Skip Stitch's great escape.

Ep
Must Do. Soarin
skip some of the world showcase areas without attractions in them.

AK
Must Do Safari
skip Rafiki's planet watch. We did it and it was really nice. They have a train. Then when you get there they have lots of things to do in the building. But if you're not lucky, you won't get there when they have an animal to treat. It's main drawback is it can take a lot of time.

MGM
Must Do Fantasmic
Skip One of the studio exibits such as Millionaire or one of em back there. Again not that they are bad, but they are time consuming.
