so my 6th grader has been having "issues" with a few other girls in her class. they've been nasty to her. what's hurtful about it, these girls used to be very close friends. it's easier to ignore nastiness from someone you never liked.

so last night I see my daughter doing her homeowrk for english class. the assignment is to read some material the teacher handed out, and to write an essay on the topic being discussed in the reading material.

she enjoys writing and wants to become a journalist someday. but I can see she's having "too much fun" with the project.

turns out the subject is "bullying", and how boys and girls have different ways of being nasty to each other.

I think she wants to read her essay on the subject to the class.

Good for her! I remember 7th grade as being the year that my so-called friends turned on me. My mom was just reminding the other day that I had a "friend" who started itemizing everyone.

You are my best friend
You are my very best friend
You are my very very best friend
etc.

 I hate that age.

Good for her! I had the same thing happen to me in the 6th grade and it's a hard thing to deal with when you're young and hurt by your friends. The good thing to come from this is that I know she'll find some great friends who will stick by her. Maybe her essay will help open some eyes.

I think she'll manage to embarass a few people without ever mentioning their names, and she'll open the eyes of ssome others who look the other way.

in the meantime, she's planning some fun activities with her other firends.

Good for her! I had the same thing happen to me at that age and my way of dealing with it was to try to ignore it. Unfortunately, that didn't make it go away until they grew out of it. I wish I had had the courage then that your daughter posesses.princess:

Whew! From the title of this thread I was afraid you were going to write that your daughtrer might've done something "vengeful"...but very clever way of clearing the air!:p

I hope this opens up dialogue between the girls...though I remember that age too and I won't hold my breath,;) Good luck to your DD and let us know what happens!:)

Wish I could be a fly on the wall that day!! :p Good for her!!

This reminds me... I got picked on a lot in fourth and fifth grades, but there was one boy in particular who was just awful to me. My mom, who still lives in my home town, just told me that he's in jail now. :) Apparently there were drug charges, as well as charges for breaking into the closed-down papermill and stealing wire.

update/mom brag

my daughter's teacher only has two sections of 6th grade English. my duaghter's class turned in their essays yesterday morning. yesterday afternoon, several of my duaghter's friends told her that the teacher told her other class all about my daughter's essay and how good it was.
