I can't believe it! My husband has agreed to take a very short trip this July to actually visit the DVC resorts!!! We're going to stay cheaply at the ASMu. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to do with our 9 yr old while we listen to the sales information? How long will the session last and do you think we could get into each of the resorts-WLV,BWV and OKW to check out the rooms firsthand? I realize that if we decide on one of the sold out resorts we'd have to buy resale. Also, if we wanted to rent points to STAY in one of the resorts, do you think it's possible on such short notice? Yipppeeeee!!

Don't worry about the 9 year old. If you meet the sales rep (CM) at one of the DVC sales offices, like at the boardwalk, they have free childcare services. There is plenty of adult supervision, and LOTS of things for the kids to do. My two boys didn't want to leave when it was time to go ! They have everything from games, arts and crafts, and even nintendo.

Good luck, dont worry and enjoy !

Hey there!! Be careful, once you see, you'll buy! :)

As for your son, they have a "Fun Center." When we went 2 weeks ago to sign papers for our add on our children (6 and 4) and my 13 yr old SIL went to the Fun Center that was right there at the Boardwalk DVC office. They all had a BLAST....well, at least my kids did. My SIL acted like she wasn't having fun the entire trip...but that's a whole different story! They have games, video games, etc etc in there for them to do. They also can choose a little "gift" as they leave and a treat (our kids got cotton candy....and our guide was nice enough to give us a handful of wet naps too!)

As for seeing units, I'm not an expert here...but AT the boardwalk they have Mock Up rooms of VWL, so they don't have to take you all the way over to WL to see a room. I'll bet they don't have OKW rooms, just because they aren't currently selling them.

Check the DVC Rent/Trade board. You may be able to find points for your stay. But be forwarned. If you rent points and stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom room in a DVC resort you'll NEVER want to stay in a regular hotel room EVER again!!! I know, we just stayed in a 2BR at OKW and we got SPOILED!!! :)

I hope this helps!

My SIL acted like she wasn't having fun the entire trip...

I think that's a rule for 12-13 year olds. My niece did the same thing when she was 12. A few years later I learned that she was really enjoying herself after all. ;)

I believe you were the one, PamOKW who warned me of this before we left. And I thought "Nah, not her, she'll show her emotions" Not so. She drug (or is it dragged?) around the whole time, shuffling her feet, only answering us with one word statements, hardly offereing anything spontaneously. She did call home every night ...talked for an hour or more (on their 1-800 #)

One day we asked her if she wanted to do a particular thing and she said "Sure." Well, then we got there and she said "I don't want to do this." SOOOO...it got me to thinking how many other times she had said "Sure" and had she meant THOSE? So I called her mom....just to find out what she was saying during her nightly calls. Turns out she'd been telling her mom what a BLAST everything was, how much FUN she was having, how GOOD the food was...etc etc....So she WAS having a good time, but not letting on. It took a lot of mental and physical energy to try to show her a good time and here we thought we were failing the entire time!!! (huge sigh)

You were right. PamOKW 1, ohiominnie 0

We don't buy much sight unseen, so we just did the same thing, except we rented points.

We stayed at OKW, so we got to see what they were all about (stayed in a studio but was able to get a tour of a 1 bedroom by asking the front desk). We took the tour of WLVs at the Boardwalk, checked out the Boardwalk itself while we were there; and then also drove over to WL just to see what the setting was like.

We went with the thought that we wouldn't buy at OKW; and then decided once we were there that we liked it the best.

We purchased a resale and are closing very soon. We have a signifigant amount of points that we will be listing to rent at a reasonable price since they expire 10/1. If you are interested, you can email me.

Not because I am renting points, but if you are truly going to look at buying into DVC, I recommend staying at one. Renting isn't that expensive; and even if it is a few more dollars than ASM, those few dollars were worth it to me to make sure I wanted to invest the $11,000+ minimum into a timeshare (and pay the dues for the next 42 years).

My boys were the same as DVCDAVE's. They loved the play room and also didn't want to leave.
As for renting points, I would do it in a heart beat if I were you. I would look to rent OKW. You can then see the demo at BWV to see what the BW is like and you will also see the VWL demo there. I would then take a trip over to VWL (maybe do a diner there). You will then get a first hand look at all 3 current on site DVC resorts.

I took my 3 children and they watched a Disney Movie in another room had cookies, got pins and had a great time. I would not worry too much about your 9 year old. This is when we checked out the Boardwalk Villas but ended up buying a resale at OKW.

I also took the tour at the Boardwalk Villas and was given a coupon for a free lunch for all the members of my family at a choice of restaurants at the Boardwalk so look into this as well. After sitting through a presentation your son may need a nice lunch. Take care and hope you enjoy the resorts. I also agree that you should rent points at one of the DVC resorts so that you get a feel of what you are getting into. I did and we wound up purchasing a resale at the BWVillas this month. Take care, Tammy:D

Our girls were the same way--they were 8 and 5--when we went to pick them up the younger one was watching "little Rascals" (which I promised to rent her at home and still haven't, LOL!) and the older one was writing a story on the computer. I asked if they could print it out so she could finish it but they couldn't. OUr son was only 2 so he had to stay in his stroller by us. Then we ate lunch at Big River (beware, you don't get the full menu to choose from) and walked round the boardwalk--it was rainy so no one was out!
Jeez I want to do an add on before prices go up, but DH has to see it first--June 20! So if HE loves it we'll have to suck up the price increase if we get those 100 WLV points I want!

I agree with DVCDudes as far as a plan of attack! That way you can really experience the 3 resorts and not just look at model rooms. I especially suggest going to the VWL and check out the grounds! I think they still have a model room open for the public, just ask the DVC CM in the VWL lobby where it is!

Have fun!
