Hello everyone!
Well let me just say that I thought I was organised. I thought I had everything all thought out. Shoot I've been planning this trip for so long I don't know what I'll do with myself when we get back in 3 weeks!

Anyway, I am dumb. It's true! Because I thought, best go to the dentist, right, before the trip so I don't have any problems while we are there! Smart so far, except it's been over a year since I've last been, and now I have a temporary filling on each side of my jaw! So that I won't have pain in WDW .

Well now I have to give up my morning plan of bagels for breakfast, and really just be darn careful of what I eat and how I eat it! Probably just have soggy bran flakes instead  . With the idea that hopefully I won't need two root canals when I get back home! I've never had one of them puppies!

Moral of this story is this. If you are going to the dentist before you go to the world, go more than a month out. Especially if you haven't been in more than a year :scared1: !!!

Because who would have thought? I never have problems with my teeth!

Sorry about the fillings, but atleast you'll be in WDW soon. Have a blast! :teeth:

Ick...oh god. Don't make me even more scared than I am. I am going to the dentist for the first time in over a decade tomorrow afternoon.

*eeps and goes to hide* I don't even want to THINK about what they are going to do to me...*runs*

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that the only food you have to watch out for while you have a temp. filling is very sticky foods. So enjoy your food and don't stress too much.:sunny:

I agree... If a patient asked me if they had to avoid anything with a temporary (depending on what type of temporary), I would only warn them about sticky foods (caramel, laffy taffy, etc). Bagels shouldn't be a problem.

:wave2: princess:

Thanks you guys! I think I'm going to go for it, bagels for breakfast it is
::yes:: The bagels here in Sweden arn't as nice and chewy, and I'm dying for one!
Hope things went well for you

I think you'll be thankful to have the temporary fillings in place. What if a tooth would break while in WDW? You could be in terrible pain while trying to enjoy yourself. That would not be fun. You should be able to enjoy most foods. I agree with avoing anything tacky or sticky - no gum or taffy.

My story:
I was more than a decade between visits to the dentist. I couldn't decide on one after I moved away from home and didn't have access (due to distance) to my childhood dentist. Plus his rates were going up and I don't think I had dental insurance for a while.
A few years ago I broke a tooth. I saw a dentist, one a chain of offices, a few months later when the pain was at it's worst. She simply read the xray and said I needed a root canal. She never touched me and the hygenist only took my xray. Sure, at that time all I did need was a root canal, but I didn't want to hear that and even though I had insurance I would have been responsible for 80% of the bill. Not something I could afford at the time.

I was lucky to survive on Advil for the pain when I felt it. But my tooth continued to break. By the second or third time I decided not to fool myself any longer. I didn't want an abcess and infection, so I broke down and went to the dentist. Long story short, in 2-3 months I had all of the fillings from childhood replaced and I'm in good shape. I returned once for a cleaning, but haven't gone back because I'm still paying off all the other work.

My tooth could have been capped, based on the xray taken at my first visit with the new DDS, but two days later it broke off more and recently (more than a year later) there was barely any of it above the gumline. I had the remainder extracted three weeks ago and now I don't have to worry about what I'm eating, or try to avoid foods that might get caught in the opening and cause more pain.

I just wanted to let you know, that if you're not in any pain at all now from your cavities, it's most likely a root canal will not be any more uncomfortable than getting a filling, only it takes a longer amount of time. I had one a few years ago and it really wasn't terrible (aside from the fact that it took 3 hours, broken into 1 hour sessions), the worst part (as usual) was the novicane. Just wanted to reassure you a little on that! But I'll be hoping you don't have to deal with that anyway!

tricia.
