Oh I am SO glad to find this that aggravates others, my name is Ruthie NOT Ruth yet 5 minutes after meeting inconsiderate people they say Ruth, I correct them immediately and give the look that I have perfected

I even have co-workers after 2 yrs that say Ruth I either don't answer or say Excuse me ! until it finally dawns on them too bad we live in a world where so many don't care It is my business why I hate the given name, I should have changed it years ago, but at 53 it is what it is, If I meet someone and they say their first name is StanleyIshKaBibble that's what I call them I would never call them Stan or Ish or KaBibble

Heck there are a few people who don't even get my name right. They call me Holly.
They have done it so much that now when they say hi Holly, I just answer them.

My name is Cindy, just Cindy. Yet, some people feel the need to call me Cynthia even though I have told them that's not my name. I don't like the name Cindy and I really don't like the name Cynthia.

They are both only one syllable, so why would you need to shorten Joyce to Joy?

OMG I so hear you on this one...my name is Beth and I often get scolded because people assume it's Elizabeth, start to use that and then when I have to correct them yikes ! It's crazy!
