Donated points to teacher

That was one of the best stories I have ever heard! Not only the donation of your DVC points but all the work that went into the whole presentation of the gift. Amazing! There should be more people like you in the world, it would be a better place for sure.

I'm crying all over the computer!! I'm a teacher and it's the end of a very difficult year for me and I know this just made him feel so absolutely wonderful and appreciated. What an incredibly generous thing to do. Just reading this story has made my day!!:bounce:

Thanks for the update! If you find out details of their trip, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to know if they are just a wow'ed by OKW & Mickey as the rest of us are.

As another said earlier, you done good!

I am a classroom teacher and am particularly pleased that you chose an arts specialist for this wonderful treat. In this era of constant academic testing and comparative evaluation, I too often see the arts given short shrift. How fantastic that you sent such a powerful message of "I value what you do for children" to a teacher whose service is NOT measured by a standardized test. It would be hard to overstate to any parents reading this how much it matters to teachers to have their devotion to kids acknowledged. Many thanks to you!

WOW! It is so nice to see a teacher appreciated. So often, we don't realize that anyone notices how hard we (teachers) work. Thank you for such a great post - and so many nice responses.

Wow! An eighth grade parent told me today that she, or a couple of parents--I'm not sure which, bought me (an elementary school librarian & newspaper coordinator) a ticket to the graduation party after the ceremony next week and I was speechless! Their girls spend each lunch recess with me, as they do not quite "fit in" with many of the other kids. It made my day. I can almost imagine how the band director felt.

You are so kind! And if you move north, I'd be happy to take you for a tour of our school :D

Thanks to all who posted the sweet comments...I am truly not deserving. DVC, while I love it, is just a "thing": the truly deserving folks are the women(2 in particular)that gave both money and time to the effort. I am glad to report that the band teacher had a great time at OKW! He even took the DVC tour! His words to me were "OKW is a simple place, and I am a simple man. I really like it." I think that says it all! I had wanted to treat the band teacher to dinner one night, but I was too busy with our group of teenage girls to coordinate our schedules. Perhaps I can purchase something special to send to him in a week or 2... a scrapbook with an OKW page already done or something like that. Any suggestions on what to send would be welcome.
My friend also loved OKW, and Disney in general. I have a feeling she'll be back! Her whole family seemed to be having a great time, and that made me feel good.
My kids and I have discussed organizing a trip every year for a teacher...points we have, but money for hopper tickets may be a problem sometimes. I'm going to have to work on that! :teeth:

Hi,

What a magical story! :wizard: Be sure to give us a report when they return!

That sounds like an excellent idea. There are oodles of excellent pictures available that you could print off and create a scrap book of memories for him. Just listen to everywhere he went, then go out and download the pics. That way you have no concerns over whether the lighting wasn't right or whatever. They can then add any pics that they might have taken. That seems like an easy way to enhance the memories of a lifetime.

Isn't it such an unbelievable feeling when you can bring so much happiness to someone? The greatest perk of owning DVC for me is being able to share it.

I rented a week out for my sister's family which included a couple of nights in an OKW GV. Her and my BIL could not get over what I did for them. I also donated a week to be raffled off at a fund raiser for my brother. He is dealing with a malignant brain tumor. My family could not believe how generous I was to donate a week at DISNEY. But what they don't understand, was it was MY PLEASURE to be able to do that. The winning couple were beyond THRILLED. It was a great night, with the Disney trip topping it all. The funniest part, is how many people are Disney fans, some I never would of imagined.

Owning DVC is the best thing we have ever spent money on. I am so glad there are other generous DVC ownings out there sharing the "wealth" of Disney!

That was a truly remarkable story. I too had tears in my eyes it is as the saying says it is better to give than to receive. Keep that generous spirit it will work out well for you.

What a wonderful thing to do!

Your family and your gesture of kindness is a true inspiration and has opened our eyes to how fortunate we are and how if we all followed your lead what a better place this world would be.
Thank You
Rob & Jan

That was such a wonderful generous gift. I'd love to give some nights to my sons' preschool teacher and her family......I'll have to convince my husband now!

Does the teacher have to report the value of the "free" stuff for taxes? I know my wife had to add the value of a "free" trip given to her to Cancun on our taxes a while back. We also had to add several other trips onto our taxes. It is always her who gets these. Boston, Quebec, Cape Cod, Dallas & Cancun. We had to pay tax on the retail value. Still cheaper than paying for the trips though.

Wow, what a neat gift. I have thought about doing something similar.

I think it would be neat to have the high school band to go to disney one year. They do a trip once every two years. They never have gone as far as Disney though. Maybe I could donate enough points for the rooms for a few days. We only have about 30 in the band so 8 or 9 studios for 3 days at OKW would be under 300 points.

Not in this case, because it was a gift. If it had been a contest, yes.
