Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

My friend and I didn't wait in the corral very long for the half in January... We got to the start area at 4:50am, waited in the porta potty line for a good while and then made our way to the corral. (Just looked at the time info on my pictures from then and I think we got in our corral a bit before 6am. We crossed the Start line at 6:15.) And therefore we were far back in it. So I definitely want to get into it earlier this time. But waiting in the corral for an hour sounds like a lot...?? How early do people start getting into them?

I sort of wish I had gone for the relay rather than going in for the whole thing.

I am getting so nervous!!

Relax! As someone on another thread said, just look as the last few miles as something you have done so many times already (well, I have :) ), which is a walk from MGM over to Epcot. I thought that was a good inspiration.

Wow, getting real close!

You're going to be fine! I've never done a half before either, but I know from the 15K I did, that your adrenalin will kick in with all the excitement in the air.
See you there!

I've been reading but not posting for a little while. Last Saturday about half way through my 5k something happened with my knee. It was a really hilly course that I had never run before and it was right as I was heading down a hill. It pretty much stopped me running right in my tracks. I had to walk the last mile or so and then hobble to my car. Finally got to the doctor on Monday (after being in a lot of pain all weekend) and had x-rays done and apprently I dislocated my knee cap and sprained my knee. Now how on earth I did that just running I have no clue. I'm so sad that I've been put on "no running" for at least a week. :(

Yikes:scared1:, what runs do you have coming up? Hopefully it's a very temporary setback and you will have a quick recovery.

Oh my!! I am so sorry to hear that!
I can only imagine the pain you were in! I hope you feel better and are out running again very soon :goodvibes

I have a 5K the end of October, but I have my first 1/2 the first weekend in November. I'm feeling so much better today that I'm almost tempted to go run tonight, but I don't want to push my luck...

Hi Ducks!,
I finished the Air Force half marathon this morning, it went really good. My knee is a little sore, but other than that I feel pretty good. I met Dan at the expo on Friday and saw him after the race, he had a really good time.
I managed to run it in 2:16:23, pretty happy with that for my first half. Towards the end of the run all I could think of is "I have to do this again in 2 weeks?":scared1: I'll be ready for the next one, though.:thumbsup2

Have a good weekend everyone, Go Ducks!
Joe

Take it slow and easy; really listen to your body. I'm glad you are so much better but don't want you to push it too quickly.

Great job Joe! I hope your knee continues to be okay. You will fantastic in 2 weeks...,you have to be, it's the inaugural Wine and Dine Race!

Hey Joe, great time! You will have no problem with the W&D!

See you (and all the other Ducks) in less than two weeks!

Augie

Thanks and have a good day!!

Happy Sunday Ducks!

Last night I did 11.5 miles in about 2:14. A bit slower than I intended because... My right knee starting hurting which wasn't surprising as I've had trouble with it before. I'll be resting it the next few days. And my left foot arch was bothering me. Not painful, just annoying. That's not something I've had before so not sure what the deal was there. I plan to do an 8 miler next weekend...with a few short runs over this week and next. I'm so excited for W&D in less than two weeks!!! :)

Karen I'm sure you will be just fine! As others said, the adrenaline on race day is amazing.

Ann I'm sorry about your knee, that sounds awful! My 2 cents based on my injuries is to really not push it. I wouldn't run or do anything for a week or more even. I know you're at 8 days out now...maybe give it this week too?? I know it's awful not being able to run but you will get back into the swing of thing once you're healed.

Joe congrats again on your first half! :) How's your knee today?

Dan congrats again to you too, you speedy guy!

Megan how'd your racing go yesterday?

Laura and Karin let us know how today went! Laura hope your knee is doing ok post race.

I'm sorry a number of us have not so good knees! :crazy2:

Happy Sunday, Ducks!

A big WOOT goes out to Joe and Dan on their awesome halfs this weekend. I can't imagine doing this two weeks before W&D :worship:, but then, I'm old.

I got a 12.5 mile run in yesterday in 2:06. Since my last 12 miler two weeks ago went pretty miserably, but all my 10 milers have gone effortlessly, I set out with the mindset of, "I'm just gonna run 10 today. Period." At mile 8, I convinced myself that 2 more miles was a cake walk, etc. When I got to 10, I just kept going...and made another 2.5 miles before stopping. So all I lack now is that last kilometer! And I have to deal with the heat and humidity (yesterday's run was in tights and a running jacket in the upper 30's/lower 40's here). And the hills (I run on total flat here). But I've done all I can do at this point.

Liz- (gulp) I'm feeling some tenderness (I hate using the word PAIN) in my left bottom calf. Sounds like my achilles tendon. :scared1: I felt it during my long run yesterday. Now I'm doing everything I can to stretch it and rest. Any advice?!? My plan is to run slow 5 milers on Monday and Wednesday this week, then maybe 8 on Friday, before getting on the plane for Orlando this coming Saturday. What do you think?

By mile 9, I was covered in salt & slowing waaay down.
Miles 11-13 were brutal! I really need to work on this for the Full.
But sipping water or Cytomax makes me nauseous. :sad2:
I KNOW I need to. I'm feeling the aftermath of dehydration.
Any suggestions for this rookie?

Finished at 2:35:12 (11:51 pace). WHOO-HOO! I finished a half-marathon!

I didn't get to see or meet Laura. :sad1:

Okay...here's my Philly Rock n' Roll recap from today:

Started off strong. By mile 3, my NON-SURGERY knee really started to ache. Luckily my friend and kids were in the crowd soon after. Got some Advil but had to wait FOREVER to get water to swallow it. Miles 4-8 were rough due to my knee. It ached and even gave out a few times. I hobbled much of those miles. I also tried the pain creams that came in the goodie bags. By mile 8, I left it up to prayer because I had to keep stopping and wasn't sure I would finish without walking most of it. Bt mile 9, God answered my prayer, and I was able to run again! I am anxiously awaiting my time because my Garmin also decided to give out on this day! I was hoping to be within a 10-11 min. pace, but the knee did not allow this. At this point, I am hoping for a sub 2:30...that wouldn't be bad since last January I was 3:05. I worked hard this summer, and I was about to cry at mile 7 thinking the whole thing was blown! The power of prayer - and determination! Will post results as soon as I get my time. Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!

Maddykins...I'd love to meet. Bummer!

Results are in. I was 2:32:27. We were near each other...I probably limped on by! Good job maddykins! Are you doing Wine and Dine?

I haven't posted in forever, but I had half marathon today, so figured I would stop being lazy and post. :)
Today was the Scenic Half Marathon in Sandpoint, ID. It was small event with a cap of 500 half marathoners, so it was nice and uncrowded. The weather was absolutely horrible, though. One minute it seemed ok, then it would pour down rain. There was a constant drizzle the entire time.
I finished slow, as usual, but it is a personal best for me and given the crazy weather, I'm okay with it. My time was 03:09:11.
I would love to just finish in under 3 hours at the W&D.

Renee great training run, you are so ready for 13.1! I'm sorry you've got some tenderness going on. It could be your Achilles or something else...like this: http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/back/backlowerleg/calfstrain.htm
My Achilles pains have been down low for the most part, right by my heal on each side. Whatever it is, I would take it easy-peasy this next week and let it heal up. You are obviously totally ready for W&D so no need to push yourself at all. Hopefully it will go away and not give you any troubles again!

Karin awesome time for your half! I'm sorry you get nauseated. For race fuel I use Clif Shots and water. I wish I had some advice for you!

Laura congrats again on such a great time while dealing with a painful knee, you did great!

Jessica! I was happy to see you posted here too about your race. :) Congrats again! I bet you can get in under 3 at W&D...maybe do a few short, speedy runs over the next couple weeks to gear up?

What a great weekend of racing and training, great job Ducks! :donald:
