Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

:worship:Way to go everyone on some pretty amazing times and races!

One step closer to our run in WDW!!

I can't wait to meet some of you!:lovestruc

Woah! Congrats to all of the half-marathoners! I give you so much more credit! :)

My race this week went AMAZING :) :) Last week, on the sand course (and about 3 hours of sleep) I came in at 36:58? or so and this week I came in at about 33:34! :) :)

I'm so pleased and Since my goal is to be at 30 by the end of the season, I'm super super pleased! :) :)

Hello All,

I am back home and recovering from the Air Force Half marathon. Overall it was a good race , but there were some major problems with parking that need to be resolved before next year and the packet pick-up needs reworked. The pre-race pasta dinner was GREAT. It was help in the air museum and then we got to tour the exhibits.

Like Joe said we met up at the expo and after the race. Look forward to seeing you again here in a couple of weeks.

THe race went really well. It was pretty much flat except for an overpass and a small hill or two. Ended up with a 1:48 finish time. Oh yeah they had the 13 mile sign in the wrong spot. I picked it up to finish strong and luckily glanced at my Garmin which had it at 12.8 and slowed it down just a hair (feel bad for those folks that did not have a GPS).

Not sure if I will do this race next year or not, but we will see. I have to say the Marines put on a much better race.

Hi Ducks!,
I finished the Air Force half marathon this morning, it went really good. My knee is a little sore, but other than that I feel pretty good. I met Dan at the expo on Friday and saw him after the race, he had a really good time.
I managed to run it in 2:16:23, pretty happy with that for my first half. Towards the end of the run all I could think of is "I have to do this again in 2 weeks?":scared1: I'll be ready for the next one, though.:thumbsup2

Have a good weekend everyone, Go Ducks!
Joe

Good to see you Joe. You had a great finish time for your first half. You will do fine at Disney.

:rotfl:Which ones don't you want to meet?......sorry, I just couldn't resist!:goodvibes

I thought the same thing! :rotfl:

(sorry i have been MIA. it's been a summer. and a september. lol!)

so excited to hear reports from the upcoming W&D. i know all those running will do us proud!

i'm getting ready to start really training for the Donald. i've been having to build back up after a too-lazy summer. i'm not quite where i need to be though. sigh. but i'm working on it. i told my DH that i may end up walking more than i'd originally planned. but i'd rather finish healthy than injure myself. we'll see how training goes.

how long do running shoes last? i have a feeling i'm going to need a new pair somewhere in the middle of my training. i didn't get truly fitted for the pair i'm now wearing. they came from a big box store (i know. i know. but i didn't know any better at the time). what is the latest i should be fitted (and get a new pair) before the half?

Got my waver and I am 5599

Looks like I'll be running with a lot of others going just my slow pace!

I love it!!

Just printed out the waiver, I am 763. Not sure if it is based on when you signed up or where you will be in the corrals.

I think I heard that one should change at 500 miles. I do know that the shoes i bought at a real running store made a difference. I still use my old shoes for both lunchtime runs and the duathlons as I have speedlaces on them.

Almost down to one week to departure!

Hey Ducks, I realized that my plan to meet at Tent D will not work as there doesn't appear to be any alpha tents. And even if there were some at the end of the race (which I assume there isn't)...that's in Epcot not WWOS. DUH to me!! The map of the start area is in here if you haven't seen it yet:

Who wants to meet and do you have an idea as to where might be a good spot?

Emily I bet you will do better at the half than you're thinking right now. I remember you were doing very well in the spring. Last year at this time I was in the midst of not running at all for 6 weeks due to my torn Achilles. I started walking again in late Sept., gradually started running again in Oct., and began officially training for the half in Nov. And then I lost two entire weeks (not back to back, luckily) during my training due to being sick and then having runner's knee. And I was totally ready for that 13.1 miles! My finish time was 2:54 so not fast at all, but that included going very slow overall for the first half of the race due to spending a lot of time taking pictures (which was a blast). My friend and I were in the MK for a LONG time. lol

I'm not sure on the shoes. I'm on my 3rd pair since I first started running in Feb. 09. So I'm no expert...it seems like it's something you learn through trial and error the longer you are a runner.

Emily - I've heard 500 miles as a guideline, too. Having said that, I'd look at the soles and see how much is worn away. Look at the heels, specifically the inside or outside edges. If it's running thin, you may want to start considering replacement. As Liz said, what you'll "learn" is that it feels like you don't have as much or enough support or spring as you used to. That's probably when you need to change them out.

Liz - I noticed the same thing. No real idea about a meeting place, but I sure would like to meet a few Ducks that night. Any suggestions? Anyone?

My bib number is 7732. I didn't have a qualified time to submit, so I guess that's why I got a high number. I'll be taking my 10K results of 1:01:50 from August with me. I'm hoping to get re-corraled in front of the walkers so I don't have to dodge them for the first 5 miles. We'll see...

I'm flying down in THREE days! I'll be going to Orlando this Saturday and will be there for two weeks. Will run 9 miles this Friday as my last "long" run, then hope to get a few short runs in next week around BLT. Will move to BWV on Friday, 1 October, so we'll be in walking distance of Epcot on race day.

Hmm, I would really like to meet up with a you guys too both before and after the race. I really have no ideas though.
:confused3
Looks like there will be a lot of open space and we are in all different corrals.

I would say the water station there but I don't want to be in the way of people who really want water.

Renee what did you put down as your est. finish time? The whole bib # thing is such a mystery. Some say it is for sure based on est. finish time, others think it's based on when you registered. I think it may depend on both. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone with a high number in Corral A, or someone with a low number in Corral D. But I've only been in the running world for not even two years so what do I know. :) Oh and as I posted my # is 4101, and I put down 2:45 as my time. (Hoping for around 2:30 though!)

Wow just 3 days until you head down. woohoo! Well we better plan the meet for sure before you leave!

Karen we will find a place to meet before the race one way or another! :) (Post race might be a lot more tricky since we'll all finish at different times. If you have ideas on a meet post race let us know!) Are you talking about the "Water" spot at the Start in that blue square that has "Start" above it? We could just meet behind it or next to it. I wonder how crowded and hectic it will be around there though.

I posted a picture of the WWOS complex above, it ended up posting small so here the link: http://as1.wdpromedia.com/media/ewwos/pdf/ESPNWWOSmap.pdf

I'm not understanding how the two maps match up though?! I'm assuming that circle on the Start map is the same as "A" (Globe) on the WWOS map. Other than that I am not seeing how they match. I'm just trying to figure out a place for us to meet and thought that WWOS map would help.

It appears that the map and the start diagram are reversed in a way, look at what appears to be parking lots and the shapes of them. Maybe we can meet somewhere in the vicinity of corral D? It says in the instructions that we are to be at the complex by 8:30, that is a lot of time before the start. Another option is sometime at the expo? There is also a WISH meet at AKL on Friday at 4, I think, and several of us are going to dinner there. I am still planning on having my last meal in the early afternoon at Big River. Oh, I will probably be at MGM on Thursday for some ToT and RnR. Perhaps AKL on Friday morning for some EE. And I plan on a run Friday morning around BW/BC/YC and up the canal.

Hi everyone,
The water area on the side facing corral D would work for a meeting location. I will be quacking away:lmao:.
I'm with you Augie, we will probably be at AK in the a.m. for some EE rides before we head over to the expo, then Boma for the Dis Meet.
At the Expo I will be wearing a blue Donald Duck t-shirt and a black hat with a mickey shaped dragon on it.

I went for a run today and my knee started hurting again. I haven't had any problems walking, going up stairs, etc until I started to run. I will continue to ice it and give it a try again on Saturday.

Less than a week, Debbie and I will be on the road :thumbsup2, looking forward to the trip.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Take care of those knees everyone.
Joe

Liz - Looking at my paperwork, I registered for the half on June 8. I remember we signed up about the same time. I think I put in a guesstimate finish time of 2:30. But having no qualifying race to back that up, coupled with my age (47) and the fact that I reported no Disney running history (maybe they see me more as a rookie?), maybe they just put me at the back. :confused3 I'm okay with that. Like I said, I've got a decent documented 10K to take with me. I'll have my Garmin on me so I'll be able to pace myself no matter what speed of crowd I get put in. All I really want is a corral in front of the walkers so I'm not dodging them for miles. That takes way too much energy and concentration. I'm hoping for a 2:15 finish.

When I ran my 10K, I really kept an eye on my Garmin for the first 2-2.5 miles, then I started picking up speed. I got passed a lot in the first few miles, but then I picked someone about 100 meters ahead of me, then slowly ran to pass them. I picked another person about 100 meters ahead of me, focused on them, then passed them. I passed 100's of people in the last mile or two. They went out too fast, and I had something left. That's my plan at the W&D Half. Go out slow and leave something for the end.

I'll have internet access at BLT, so if we don't nail down a meeting plan before this Saturday morning, we're okay. I'll check this thread next week. No worries!

Augie - I'm leaning toward the Big River Grille on Saturday afternoon, too. You want to nail down a time or do you want to exchange cell phone numbers?

Joe - Watch those knees! This is no time to have a blow out! You're trained so take it easy from here on out. Hey, any way we can meet for the 5K on Saturday morning?
