Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Carissa: Feeling better? Hope so!

Liz: So glad your new shoes are feeling good!

I did four miles this morning at 10:30 pace. Have a race on Monday. I REALLY am liking the 6:1 run/walk ratios. I have so much more energy during & after my runs lately. I may feel like a dork doing them in the race though.

(Oh and if it's just a subconscious thing - don't tell mine!) :rotfl:

How are you feeling? Better I hope!

Carissa: Feeling better? Hope so!

Yes, I am! Thanks for asking. :goodvibes I haven't done any running since, though. :sad2:

Liz - Glad you finally got a pair of shoes that feels good. Got to love Zappos! Sorry you had such an issue with the running store.

Karin - Glad you're liking the run/walk interval. I think I will end up doing that through most of my races (except maybe the 5K).

Looks like you live 3 hours east of me. So hi neighbor! :) I'm 34 and have 4 boys. Wow, you've done lots of 5k's. I'm sure you are ready to go for a half now. Which one are you doing?

I'm planning on doing the Bridge to Battleship 1/2 marathon in Wilmington. I've got a lot to build up to, but I'm excited about it.

Hello everyone! And hello to the newbies on the team!

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend. I went to the beach for the first time thiss ummer, only for an hour as I had somewhere else to go. Maybe tomorrow I will get more time in. Sunday the 4th I am signed up for an8K. This will be the longest I have run since the half last January, all my current distances are around 3 miles. I did run about 4 last Wednesday.

Well, three months to go to the W&D!

Have a great weekend!

Augie

Happy 4th of July weekend everyone. Welcome to the new ducks, this is a great group.
I ran 12 miles this morning and felt pretty good, but I have a massive blister on my big toe :scared1:, so I will be looking for new running socks this weekend. Any suggestions on socks? I have been working on my pace while running. I managed to run 4 minutes faster on my 5 mile run on Thursday than I my 5 mile run on Monday. At mile 6 this morning a guy passed me and I was able to speed up and stay at his pace for another mile and a half.

So I was 8 in 1973 when I took my first monorail ride from TTC to the Magic Kingdom. I was enjoying the ride looking at the bushes carved in the shape of circus animals then we went through the Contemporary Resort and in that short time I new I wanted to stay there. I thought it was the coolest place. Well it took a while, but Debbie and I are going to WDW on July 30th for 3 days and we are staying at the CR with a park view. With the AP discount we saved 40% on the room rate. I am very excited to see the Electric Light Parade again and the Summer Nightastic fireworks.

Liz: I haven't seen the Pirates and Princess party fireworks so this will be all new for me and of course I will be bringing my Mickey Vision glasses:thumbsup2.
Have a good holiday weekend everyone.
Joe

Hi Everyone! I hope everyone is having a great fourth of July weekend! I'm waiting for one of our former exchange students from Denmark and his family to arrive plus about my step-siblings so that our house will be very full for this weekend! :)

I ran last night for 3.8 miles, and it was very relaxing. The highlights of it included running into a ditch (I need to look down while I'm running), watching the sun set, and getting to see a little baby fox! Plus at the end of the run I jumped into the Chesapeake Bay. It was very cool and felt great! :)

I never saw this survey for new members back when I became a new member of this team so I'm gonna fill it out now! :)

Real Name:Megan

Location: Crisfield, Maryland/Mardela Springs, Maryland and Dover, Delaware (I go to college in Dover)

Family Stats: My family consist of me, my mom, my step-dad, two step-siblings, and a great-aunt. My mom and aunt are the disney people like me and they come cheer me on at most of the races.

Upcoming Races: Delaware Hospice 5K (July 14th) and then the 2010-2011 XC season at my college! :)

Pets: I have two cats (Sunshine and Becca) and a rabbit (Smokey) and my family has a parrot (Jake) and a saltwater fish aquarium.

Hobbies/Interests: Photography and Music. I tutor math pretty regularly so I guess that's an interest. :lmao: Plus, I think college is a interest!

Favorite Disney Park: Animal Kingdom

Favorite Disney Dining Spots: Cape May Cafe :rolleyes1

Coolest Things You Ever Did: I got to be an extra in the movie "Gods and Generals" I love that movie. But the coolest running thing that I got to do was when my high school team won regional for the first time in 18 years and every member of the girls team qualified for the state meet.

Hello Ducks! I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Fourth. It has been a bit warm here in the northeast, with no rain in sight for the next few days. I hope it will be a bit cooler at DW in October. And the night time will help, I think, though I was pretty soaked at the end of the Tot, and that was at night also.

Yesterday I did my first 8K. I was not sure what to expect for a time, but was hoping for a sub 40 minute time, and was successful, as I did it in 37:48.

Have a great week, everyone! I am heading down to West Virginia for a few days.

Hello All,

Been kind of remiss in posting on here lately, but I have been running/exercising quite a bit lately. I did a 5K on Thursday and an 8K on Sunday, both with pretty good times. I have stepped up my training schedule to meet the demands of my Sept-Nov race schedule, it is going to be pretty brutal I have decided that for my 3 half marathons in less than 30 days I am really only going to worry about trying to PR my first 2 and then use the Wine and Dine as a fun run and not really worry about my time. Once the wine and dine weekend is done I will have about 3 weeks to get ready for the Ragnar relay across Florida. So hopefully I will stay healthy and be able to make it through the rest of the year. Good to see so many new ducks :thumbsup2 and welcome

Dan, what is the Ragner Relay? Sounds kind of cool. How many per team? You will be stationed in Florida by this time, won't you? There is a relay here called Ocean to Sound, but it is only about 15 miles, with five person teams.

Boy, it is hot here. Rain would be welcome!

It is a 200+ mile relay race with 12 people per team. Each person runs 3 legs of varying distances, roughly between 3-14 miles per leg. They have the races all over the country. If things go well with this race I want to do the one in DC next year. I get to Florida 2 weeks prior to the race and luckily my new office gave me the go ahead to run it.

welcome, new ducks!

i am crawling back! after dealing with some illness, i had a rough time trying to work my miles back up. then, we had a death in the family and, while in ohio, i just did not have time to run. we were gone from morning to night trying to help my aunt and cousins plan my uncle's funeral. :( i did run once once we got home, but then we went on vacation.

i'm finally getting my butt back out there. i'm having to work back up again though. plus, i am not used to running in the heat. i did get out last night for about 1.5-2 miles of running/walk (i have to estimate--i had to pause my nike plus to fix my son's bike pedal and it wouldn't kick back in. it said i did .26 miles in 30 minutes! lol!). anyway, i got back out with DD tonight and ran/walked (she rode her bike) for 2.5 miles. i am definitely not able to run the 4-5 miles i was logging in the spring. but i'll get there! i do have to wait until the sun starts to set to get out. i just have a hard time running with the sun beating down on me. i don't know how others do it! i guess i'm a wimp! :)

No, I agree. Running with the sun beating down on you is a totally different animal. I've been waiting for it to go down before heading out for the most part. It is still hot , but managable. I HATE that feeling of the sun blazing while running. Did my long run on a trail in the middle of the day on Sunday and almost cried when there was no shade.

Sorry I haven't been posting for a while, life seems to take too much of my time. :goodvibes
I want to welcome all our new Duckies; I've really enjoyed reading all the bio's. We have a wonderful mix of ages and demographics.

I've been slowly trying to build up my miles again, my longest being 6 miles at this point. I will get there, but the heat has been taking a toll and I really dislike doing more than 4 miles on the treadmill. Yes, excuses, excuses. :rotfl: I am still doing kickboxing, zumba and an ab class for cross training so hopefully that will help keep me in shape for the 1/2.

Have a great week everyone!

i got back out again tonight for a 2.3 mile walk/run. that's three days in a row. but i'm trying to take it easy (which is part of why i'm running AND walking versus just running). i'll get out tomorrow and then won't be able to go out Friday or Saturday.

they say that the humidity is going back up and it's getting hotter. i could totally tell a difference tonight. i was dying. and i felt like i took it easiest tonight!

I went out Tuesday night and was supposed to do speed work last night. Was exhausted and my knee was not feeling so hot. Took the night off and will make up my missed day using my Friday rest day. "Speed" work for a 10:30-11:00 miler seems so funny! I guess it's the only way this tortoise is going to get any faster. :rotfl2:

I haven't run since last Friday. It's just been too dang hot & humid, plus my scheduled hasn't allowed for AM runs. TOMORROW I am running! Maybe this afternoon if the storms hold off.

Be careful out there Ducks. Stay hydrated & keep it easy. :thumbsup2

I ran 4.5 miles last night, but the head and humidity was just too much for me to go the other 1/2 mile. 100 degree heat with high humidity is just not the best for outside running.:sad2: My oldest son is spending the night with grand parents tonight, so once I drop the youngest one off at daycare I should be able to do my long run tomorrow morning. I'm not usually a morning runner, but hopefully it will be somewhat cooler.
