Donald's Defiant Dashers (AKA Triple D's/Duckies/The Ducks) Dashing into 2010

Hello all, I hope everyones training is going well. It has been a great week of training for me. I've had two 5k runs (Not as fast as I would like but it was nice to be back out running again.) Plus two 30 minute workouts a day this week. So back at it full speed.

Liz: I hope you are getting better and remember that we all here for you. I know it is frustrating but just keep your head up.

Also I was wondering if anyone has ran at Castaway Cay? We are going on a Disney cruise next week and I wanted to run there if possible.

liz, i hate to hear that you're down. just take it easy on yourself. once you are healed, you'll be back out there! just don't hurt yourself worse by trying to do to much. and don't get discouraged! you are such an inspiration!

i have been hiding from here. two weeks ago, i had a horrible sinus infection. that was the week of my 10k, which i thankfully (amazingly and by God's grace) got through.

last week, we passed the stomach bug around our house. when i wasn't sick, i was taking care of a sick kid. DH was working late hours. and i just don't feel like running after 9 pm! lol

i finally got out tuesday evening for four miles. the kids and DH rode their bikes behind me for the beginning/end of the run. they stopped at a playground for the middle part of my run. that was fun. and good exercise for my kids. my DD can be lazy, so i really want to instill more activity into her routine.

i got out this morning for another four miles. i honestly had to will myself through the last mile. i don't know if it's because i've not been running or if it was because the sun was so hot (maybe a combo of both). i didn't think i was going to make it. i just kept telling myself, "get to this point. now, get to this point." anyhoo...

good to hear how everyone is doing! i will try not to hide so much now that i'm getting back out there!

Hello Ducks! It certainly is duck weather here today. But the rest of the week was great. No running this week at all, but did ride to work every day this week (except today)

Dan, Tampa sounds better than the alternative. And it is so close to WDW!

Liz, hope the recovery is going ok. Don't get so down on yourself.

I have been to Castaway Cay, Tim, but I do not think there would be enough time to do any running. There is a beach a ways a way that you could run to. And try the parasailing!

Good going on the four miles, Emily.

Joe, see you at BW!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Augie

Thank you so much for the kind words you guys, I really appreciate all of them. My spirits are a bit higher now...I'm starting to formulate a plan to get back on track. I need to be more patient!

Joe thanks for that article, it was a good read for me right now for sure.

Tim how wonderful about the cruise! Never been, it's on the list.. I hope you'll tell us all about it!

I read a blog by David Parfitt who writes for the Dis about a 5k run at castaway cay. I was just wondering if anyone else had done it, because if they offer it how many times do you get to run on a tropical island? I think that would just be awesome.

Thanks Liz, I will let you all know how it goes. I have only been on one other cruise and that was a carnival cruise ten years ago. So we are looking forward to it.

Hi Friends,

I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a week or two. I've been struggling with some stuff with my running (head games mostly - long runs) and the timing wasn't great. I have another 1/2 marathon tomorrow. I've worked through it all - but just sort of shut down on discussing it until I worked through it.

Doing better now. :thumbsup2
Have a half tomorrow. :)
Just going to hang in there and get done what I can get done. :thumbsup2

Will be back to myself after this weekend - and figure out a new pattern for myself.

Cheers, Deb

Emily - Glad you're starting to feel better!

Tim - Running at Castaway Cay would be awesome. :goodvibes

Deb - Good luck with your half tomorrow. We'll be here waiting for you.

I am almost in the final week of the C25K program. I have one more 28 minute run and then three 30 minute runs and I will graduate! :cool1: :cool1:

I'm feeling really, really down about running right now...I feel like fate is against me and I'm not meant to run. :sad1: I typed out a big post but I deleted it. I don't want to be a downer, anymore than this post already is.. (sorry!!)

All of you who are in shape, don't get injured, are able to be consistent with your workouts and are in a great place with your running, you are really fortunate. I'm so happy for you. And so envious.

one day at a time, I know it is hard to think about now.. just keep swimming..

listen, when I started in Nov. I had never exercised a day in my life. I may be thin but my problem is weight gain, I love to eat but not enough and not the right things. This running thing has made me really think about how much and what I put into my body! If I eat to much sweets now, I begin to feel depressed. I have to stop myself!
I have to totally focus on the right things to keep me running and my days get better.

YOU CAN DO IT!!

that is why we are here, for the motivation we give one another.. We love ya! Don't give up!

I was really starting to get upset and depressed because I still haven't made it to the 3 mile marker.. It was difficult for me to tell if I was having mental or physical problems reaching it.

Well, the last two days I made a great breakthrough, I did a nonstop 30 min. run with a few min warm up walk. I now know with determination and persistence I CAN do this half-marathon in October!!

Thanks to you all for helping with that too!!!:cool1:

Still no running this week, but went on a 7 mile hike today with a local hiking group. Great trail, I want to go back on my mtb!

Deb, good luck with the half tomorrow!

Karen, way to go with a long run. You will have a great time in Oct!

Everyone enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Augie

My news for the day: I finally made up my mind about what to do as far as the treadmill situation and placed my order for a new one! It's another Proform. I cannot wait to get it and start using it!!

Karen thanks so much for the pep talk. :goodvibes And YAY for you doing your 30 min run!! woohoo! :thumbsup2

I just registered for a local 5K this Sunday, so I better get a few runs in before then.

There is a beer festival I will be at on Saturday, good thing it will be over early so I can have a bit of recovery. I guess it is a form of carb loading......

Have a good week, everone! Have fun with your new treadmill, Liz!

Wow team, way to go. Everyone seems to be getting out and getting miles in. I'm a walker and am so impressed by all you runners! I just can't seem to make the switch over to running, but I do walk fast.

Liz---Yay,for the treadmill purchase, and that you're feeling better. Remember...one step at a time.
Emily...Some days it really is a matter of just talking yourself through it. You are doing great!
Deb...Good luck on the half!

Way to go team!

Evening ducks!,
Things have been going good with me. I manged a 6 mile run last Saturday (new personal best). Once I got home my neighbor and I power raked the dead grass in our yard and filled 40 yard waste bag. My thighs were sore the next day from the bending over to fill the bags. I guess I don't work my thighs while running, because I have never been that sore before.
I am really happy with my progress, I actually look forward to going for a run. Some of that excitement might be cause I usually run after work, so I might be really excited about being off:).
Since I started walking in December and progressed to running I have lost 16 pounds, I am almost in bathing suit shape for our trip to WDW in 3 weeks. :scared1:
I think I have convinced DW (Debbie) to do the 5K Halloween fun run in October. If she does it I'm planning on running with her, that way I can do a race through all 4 parks in one day. Still trying to get Steph to run with us, if she doesn't have to work.
Well everyone have a nice weekend.
Joe

Augie Good luck with your 5K on Sunday!

Tim woohoo for being in WDW!! When do you go on the cruise?

Sharon thanks. :)

Joe congrats on the PB and the weight loss! Yay for WDW in 3 weeks, May is such a great time to be in the World. That's great your wife may do the 5K with you, hope your daughter can too!

AFM
Thanks for sharing in my treadmill excitement all. It's funny to be excited about getting a treadmill since I don't even like running on them anymore. That was part of what got me down, knowing that I would not be able to run unless I used a treadmill a lot for the next several months (until my youngest starts preschool this fall). Now that I've accepted that fact, I'm excited. I'll embrace the treadmill and be thankful for it!

Liz we actually boarded the boat this afternoon. We stayed at the Animal Kingdom last night in one of the new three bedroom villas. It was awesome seeing all the animals. I woke this morning and went for a run. I ran down to the main entrance of the AK park. Great run, just over 4 miles total distance this morning.

Joe That's AWESOME weight loss!

My DD keeps asking if she can "do exercise" with me. So cute.

Did three miles today - feeling better. Even got a little sunburn on my pasty Irish nose. :rotfl:
