Donald's Defiant Dashers 2013

Good afternoon Duckies!

I have updated the races as far as I could see. Please send me any additions or changes.

I am pretty convinced I am doing Dopey. Eek! I really love a challenge, and bling and race shirts and love to give Disney my money, so what the heck. :rotfl:

I'm heading out for a run soon - nicer weather than we have been seeing lately. I've cut back on my mileage as I was becoming too burnt out with all the training leading up to Goofy and then another HM within a few weeks, so I let myself take a bit of a break (10 days). First run out today in 10 days. And the best part: I am looking forward to it!!!

Please add the TOT for me at WDW. Also, DL 1/2 on 9/1 and Stomp Out Child Abuse 5K in Port St. Lucie, Fl. on 4/20. Thanks,

Cindy

Sorry for the delay in reporting back on my half this past weekend. I had to unexpectedly go out of town for my job this weekend after the race and I've had limited access to a computer with unrestricted internet access. GOtta love those work filters.

Anyways, I PR'd again! I finshed the Bainbridge Half Marathon in 1:55.39 which was about 45 seconds better than my previous PR set earlier this month. I felt pretty good through the first 9 or 10 miles and would have been under 1:54 had I been able to maintain my pace through 9. I kinda ran out of gas around mile 9 and I had to stop to tie my stinkin shoe at mile 10 which really took alot more out of me than it should have. lol.

In any event, I'll take the PR. Since WDW Marathon weekend, I've PR'd a full (did my first), PR'd a half, PR'd a 5k, and broke my earlier PR for a half. I've got another half in 10 days. Not sure my gameplan on it. I will go into it with the same attitude. Maybe instead of no mile over 9 minutes, I'll say no mile over 8:55 and see if I PR for a 3rd time in a half in a month!

Way to go on the PRs!!!

Since my training fell apart, I am not counting on doing the same at the Crescent City Classic on Saturday, so as I had mentioned a couple pages ago, I'm costuming with my cousins and a friend. I am nearly done with my costume and just have to do my hubby's. We are all dressing up as escaped animals from the zoo--and a zookeeper. We're playing off the theme of the song "They All Axed For You", so we'll all have signs that say that on our backs, and then animal specific signs in front, like mine will say "The Cheetah Axed" DH is going to be a rhinoceros.

I am happy to say that the second run I got out there for was better than the first one. Then I got a touch of something this week and am temporarily sidelined AGAIN, but will get to running tomorrow for sure!!!!

Hi Ducks! It's spring break time here. My boys are out of school today and all of next week. I love sleeping in!! :)

I had my latest doctor's appointment yesterday. I still have pain in my left tendon (it has posterior tibial tendonitis in case you don't recall...which I would not expect anyone to. lol) He wants an MRI. So I'm getting one on April 10th and then I'll see him again and get the MRI results on April 16th. So, that's the new date for further info...

In the meantime, I have to decide if I should register for Dopey next week (early reg. is April 3rd) not knowing my MRI results and what the future holds. My thoughts are all over the place. I definitely WANT to do Dopey. That much I know. It's will I physically be ABLE to that is the question.

Could I walk it if I had to? I would be willing to try for sure. So, that makes me think I should go ahead register and then hope for the best... I could also defer if it came to that.

Brandon~Congrats on the latest PR! You are on a roll! :cool1:

Jennie~Good luck tomorrow! Great costumes! :thumbsup2

I think you answered your own question, but I would register and then deal with deferral or modification as the time comes. If you DON'T register, really wanting to do it as you do, and you ARE physically up to it 100%, you will be unhappy at missing your shot.

Ooh, tough decision Liz. What's the worst case scenario from the MRI, surgery? Surgery in April/May and following physical therapy will still be enough time to prepare for the Dopey. It may mean more walking than running, but it should be do-able. I'm only basing that on my experience with my knee surgery in May and then doing the W&D on Oct. 1st. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV though, so take it for what it's worth!

Doesn't that waiting game stink? I had to wait like 2 weeks for the MRI and then the results too. Frustrating. Good luck being patient. For the MRI business and with the kids off school!! My kids started yesterday and were already "bored." Grreeeeaaaat. ;)

Ugh! I wish it was just all healed for you so you wouldn't even have to think about it. Hoping for good news on the 16th. :thumbsup2

Hey Ducks,

Did the Crescent City Classic 10K today. Could not have gone better. Weather was BEAUTIFUL. My IT band has been giving me trouble, but thanks to a pre-race soak in the hot tub and some serious stretching from my DH/Trainer, I had no pain today. YAY!!!! The CCC people finally realized that with 20K runners, it was time to get organized. We had actual corrals and a better route. So I was able to take more than two minutes off my PR for a 10K! And since we were in New Orleans, DH and I had post-race chargrilled oysters and a fried shrimp poboy. Yum! Now I have nothing but 5Ks until Wine and Dine. Yahoo!!

Happy trails everyone!

Happy Easter Ducks! :)

My doc doesn't think it's bad enough to require surgery, but he couldn't say for sure without the MRI. So we shall see. I've been reading a ton about this injury/issue, of course, and in one way I almost want to have surgery...people get over it faster that way in some cases! But, rationally thinking of course I don't want surgery.

Congrats!!! We were in the purple corral, did NOT PR, but as my training fell apart due to illness, I really did not expect to. Plus our group got separated so three of us stopped at mile 5 to wait for the rest of our group which was about 3 - 5 minutes of not moving. Plus my cousin and I stopped for goofy pics after entering City Park, which also slowed us down. I signed up for text msg updates and I actually had a couple miles of negative splits, which made me happy, and for only having two or three training runs after the WDW Half before getting sick and then only two training runs before the Classic, I'm pleased with my 92 minute finish, all things considered.

We got lots of compliments on our costumes, which was fun! I've already signed up for next year's race! Gotta love a $10 off code! :)

Happy Easter Ducks! :)

Happy Easter, hope it was a good one! Way too much junk consumed by yours truly. Since I gave up sweets for Lent, I indulged big time. LOL I am hoping your MRI shows promising news.

I am trying to find a race DH and I can do before he deploys. So far none of the ones I picked up info for at the CCC10K expo seem to work schedule/length wise, so I'll just keep my eyes open.

I'm probably only going to be running once a week this month as I am going to do the Thirty Day Shred, and I learned before that I can't run AND do the shred, even if I keep it just to my off days, because it's too hard on my knees. So hopefully I do the shred, shed some more pounds (and thus more pressure off my knees) and then maybe I can incorporate both! I've lost 9 pounds since the WDW Half. Hoping to keep that momentum going...

Thanks Liz & McDuck! We signed up for next year too. How can I say no to a $25.00 registration fee? I looked at the Crescent City Connection Bridge Run in June. Only 4 miles, but up 300 feet in what will probably be 95+ degress. :faint: DH gave me a big "thanks, but no thanks". :rotfl:

I tried to talk DH into the Huey P run. He said, Oh Happy Father's Day, let's run a bridge.

So I think that's a negatory. ;)

Hi everyone,
I hope the week finds everyone healthy or at least mending.
I had a good 10 mile run last Saturday, the weather finally cooperated. Monday after work Debbie and I did a April Fools Twinkie 5k and it was COLD. I was wearing thin long running pants and a thin sweatshirt. Once I got a third of a mile in I finally warmed up, but that standing around waiting for the start was brutal. To ad insult, because Twinkies aren't available now they substituted terrible fake Twinkies. The idea of the race is we have to eat the faux Twinkie at the start of the race and at the half way eat another twinkie and they will deduct 2 minutes from your run time. I skipped the second one. It's a fun event and hopefully next year the real golden sponge cake will make a return.
I have a mini dilemma, all along I have planned on signing up for the WDW half marathon, but enough time must have passed since January I kind of want to do the full again. I'm not sure what to sign up for. I do know Goofy and Dopey are out. The January trip will be at the end of our premium annual passes and we don't plan on renewing. Our next trip probably won't be until the next WDW marathon weekend in 2015, so I want to squeeze in as much park time as possible. Other than the last 4 miles and the sun baking my brain I really enjoyed the marathon, so I think you know what I'm leaning to. I will give it until the weekend and make my decision and sign up.
Have a good week!

Joe

Joe I was in your same situation a few weeks ago. I keep going back and forth over what to run. First there was no way I'd do the full again. Training that time of year is too difficult for me as it's my busy time of year; however I think the dedication to training kept me true to my running that time of year. A few weeks later I said you know, I may just do the Goofy race now. Then my wife decided to enter the Half, I thought maybe I'll only do the half. I'm still in that undecided state, but I'm leaning towards the half only because my wife and a few friends are running it (many of them it'll be their 1st half).

Hey Ducks!

I stopped by my local running store to check the sale room today. I am always on the lookout for discontinued models of our normal shoes. Of course, they have a pair of DH's NBs for 50% off (yay!) but no Brooks Ghosts for me. While I was looking, I saw a pair of Brooks PureConnects (one of those semi-minimalist shoes). I figure for 50% off, I'll see what all the hub-bub is about. But the clerk warned me that the transition would take a while and I shouldn't run any long distances right away. Anyone have advice about how to do the switch?

Thanks! Jeni

I'm a heavier guy (205-215 avg. weight) and I ran in Brooks Pure Connect and Saucony Kinvaras before that for quite some time. I was one of the rarities that didn't have much problem transitioning to them, but it was also a fluke that I did. I merely wanted some lighter shoes and I started running in Newton Gravity once my mileage went up as high as it is now.

I still use the Pure Connects for shorter runs occasionally and always do 5k races in them. I wasn't necessarily answering your question, but I was merely commenting on the fact that I love my Pure Connects (but I love my Newtons more!)
