Karin~Thinking of Bryan and you...

Good evening everyone,

I was busy tonight, I signed up for 3 races.
Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5k on March 11th.
ShamRock N Roll Run 10k on March 17th.
and the Martian Invasion of Races half marathon on April 14.
http://martianmarathon.com/
This is a race I've wanted to do since I started running. Since I won't be taking as many trips to Disney like I did last year, :sad2: I'm going to do more running events.
I ran 3 miles after work and I set out to do it in a 5k race pace and I managed to do 3.1 miles in 27:51. I'm going to try to do that more often.

Karin: I'll be thinking of you and Bryan tomorrow.

Liz: how did the foot feel on your run?

Have a great week! Ducks.

Joe

Way to go on the fast 5K!

Wow, lotso races coming up for you, awesome! I'll add them to the list later.

My foot felt fine during the run, as it always did. It still hurts on random mornings when I wake up though! :confused3

Liz - I read the same posts and wondered the same things. I can't believe they would only run the Chip and Dale 1 year! That seems crazy. And I had already decided on POFQ for my Goofy stay (I nixed the BW and BC thoughts due to the cost. bummer) before I ran across the thread regarding walking to the start..... Hmmm.... I'm game!!

Karin - I hope all goes well for your husband. We're thinking about you guys!

Joe - great motivation by signing up for races. Maybe I should toughen up and do that too! ;) I just hate running in the cold, but when there's a race in the near future, it's excellent reason for running more!

All the cool kids are on FB, I know. I guess I haven't reached that level of coolness yet.

Lol...you have reached that level of coolness...you're just in denial. ;)

WooHoo!! I'm so glad you will be at POFQ and walking to the starts with me!!!
:cool1::cool1::cool1:
Let's see how many other Ducks we can get to join us over these next 9 months... :flower3:

Karin, hope things go well for Bryan!

Joe, good running, you have more races upcoming than I do.

That's a good idea to walk from PO, plus you wil be warmed up! I have already made my res for BW though. I am not doing W&D this year, but if I was I would walf to the start from there, I walked to WWOS when I volunteered for the water stop. But I think it is a little further than the PO walk to Marathon start.

Keep running, everyone!

:)
Hello Ducks,

Liz I'm glad to see you are on the mend.

I've been busy on vacation. DH and I went on a week long cruise with NCL Epic and a group of 18 others. We had a good time, however we got spoiled with DCL (1st cruise), NCL (2nd cruise). Beautiful ship nice cabin I had the best sleep and rest ever, but NCL was lacking I thought in the amount of activites to do on board. Days at sea were terrible with 4200 pax on board with not a whole lot to do but crowd in popular areas. Food was good. Docked beside the Dream in Nassau. We will be on DCL next time for sure.

Worked out on treadmill in their gym. Pretty sporty with ship rocking one way and looking out the window the ship was moving to the left. But it worked enough for me to get in a few runs. Didn't get seasick at all so that was good. :)

Entered in for the Gate 15K River Run in JAX for the 10th of March.
Hoping to walk that one in 2hours. Looking forward to the Disney Half in Jan 2013! My sister is currently attempting to train for it as well as one of my coworkers. We'll see how the coworker handles the Gate 15K first though :)

TTFN :)

Colleen

well, Ducks, I know this is late in coming but I am still on vacation..

I finished!!! not my best time but I stopped for tons of pictures this time! I really took my time and ENJOYED it.
while at the expo I signed up for the ToT 10 miler. sounds like it should be fun. at least know I have another race will keep me running focused.
There is rain and snow back home and the weather here is sunny and warm, I DON"T WANT TO LEAVE!!

I tried a couple hours at the Magic Kingdom last night but was way to tired to stay.

last day and we are off to Hollywood Studios. :hippie:

Hello Ducks!

Things are pretty rough here. Due to some extenuating circumstances, I've been unmotivated/unable to run much in the past two weeks.

Here's the short version: My mother, who lives in another state, has been suffering from memory loss related to a stroke and had to be hospitalized for over a month. Shortly after her release, she was re-admitted to another facility where it was determined that her left leg needed to be amputated below the knee. Also, while visiting her this weekend, I developed a particularly nasty upper respiratory infection.

My last run was a week ago (and it was fabulous), and the one before that was the previous Thursday (it was horrendous). I'd really like to get back out there because I know that pounding the pavement will help to release some of this stress; however, I know better than to go out there coughing like this.

I want to add that though I've been very sad about my mother's decline, I am more motivated than ever because I've witnessed it. She is not quite 59 years old. She suffers from hypertension, diabetes, COPD, and congestive heart failure. When I am 59, my daughters will be 28 and 25. I refuse to leave them motherless at those young ages because of something I can control.

Crystal,
 I am so very sorry you are going through so much right now.
Sending positive thoughts for your Mom & you.
And hoping you are feeling better soon.

Crystal...

I am sorry to hear about all you are going through. I left to go on vacation and it seems I left for vacation and many of my friends have had tragic things happen.
You are in my prayers.

Good news! Bryan's heart catheterization was clear = no blockages whatsoever.
so now we wait for a new surgery date. Thank you for the well wishes!

Renee & Karen: How was The Princess? Any pics?

How is everyone doing?
I did 6 miles yesterday & my calf cramped up something terrible! (trying to change my foot strike to help my knee) I've got 3 slated for today so let's hope it feels better.

So I didn't finish my first half in my goal time, but considering the extreme rain, tornado sirens, bleeding, chaffed nipples, and calves cramping so bad I could barely run the last 2 miles, I wasn't off by much. I was actually right on pace through the first 9 or 10 miles.

I finished according to my watch in 2:09:53. I didn't see the official time (it'll hopefully be posted online today), but I was off about 0:24 of the timer and my watch. The run was chip timed, so my chip time should be right on my watch time.

It was good experience, although I definitely would rather be running in dryer conditions! lol.

***update: official time is now posted. I "officially" finished in 2:10:03 and 299th out of over 800 finishers. Had I finished in my goal of 2 hours or less, I would have finished in the top 200! So close!

Crystal -- I've been following along on Facebook and you and your mom are in my thoughts. I've been dealing with a similar situation for awhile now and it's tough for sure.

Karin -- Fingers crossed for your husband!

I finally got on the treadmill yesterday. Can't tell you the last time I did that! I walked for 30 minutes and even used the incline. It felt great. :thumbsup2

Hope all of the ducks are doing well. :grouphug:

LadyDooley - Congrats! DH and I are doing the ToT too. Hope to see you there.

Crystal - We are sending prayers and thoughts for your family. And I agree - take your frustration out on the road! (when u feel better)

dragitoff - You did GREAT! Don't be too hard on yourself. ;)

Maddykins06 - Yay! Hope the surgery goes well.

I am trying to be more motivated to get back on the road. I have walked a few times since the surgery and done step class. But I wimped out this morning... I am scheduled to start running again on Sunday. Let's hope my time is not wrecked by taking three weeks off. :guilty:

Is anyone doing it this year?

It's the same weekend as Children's Miracle Network Golf Classic (DH works it) & Jersey week (DD is off from school), so we're headed down & I thought I'd run the race as I never have before.

Karin-

I'm planning on running the W&D again this year. Personally, I like this one the best of all the Disney halfs that I've run because it's all run in the dark. That's my normal training "light", so it feels pretty normal to me. The toughest part is trying to get any sleep afterwards. Your endorphins are flying and once you sit or lay down, your muscles start to seize up, so laying in bed becomes uncomfortable. At least for me.

Which reminds me, Liz. Would you be so kind as to update the Page 1 post to reflect the fact that I'll not be running the DL Half this year? My plans have changed (again). Now my plan is to run W&D in November 2012, Tinkerbell in January 2013 (and skip Marathon Weekend in WDW) and W&D in 2013. Therefore, I'll get my C2C in 2013, not in 2012. Yep, the C2C in my 50th year!

I'll update y'all soon about the Princess Half Marathon. Work has me traveling waaay too much this year. I'm surprised that I've been able to keep my running up as well as I have.

So, I've been inspired to do more local races. I'll be doing a handful of 5K's, but more importantly, I'm planning on my first Half Marathon outside of the Disney bubble. ;) Saturday, Sept. 1st, Lake Country Half Marathon in Oconomowoc, WI. I figure that's an excellent start to training for the Goofy! (and a heck of alot cheaper than making it to the DL Half!)

Also, the ToT run has suddenly become a potential trip! One of my best friends is finally making her first trip to WDW with her DD for her birthday, and they just happened to pick that week for their trip. (her birthday is 9/30) Her husband is pretty sure he'll be running the ToT, so now they're begging me to join them. I'm watching airfare that's high right now, so we shall see.... :confused3

Renee - C2C for your 50th sounds like a great plan. :thumbsup2

Tanya: Are you super close to Oconomowo? I have a conference at UWI - Stevens Point in July, but I know that's about 2 hours from there.

Renee: :sad1: Sad you'll be skipping 2013 WDW Marathon, but YAY for the C2C - I want that too!

I'm just north of Milwaukee, and about 45 minutes to Oconomowoc, my parents are much closer, maybe 10 minutes. Yep, Stevens Point is a bit further of a drive north. Funny you mention Stevens Pt, as I'm headed up there in April to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy! They're a staple at the F&WF and I just love their music! You should have great weather in July!

Ok ducks - I need someone to tell me it gets better. I took three weeks off and I have run twice in the last few days. My time is awful, more than a minute off pace. My stamina is the problem. Please tell me the speed comes back fast. I have a 10K in three weeks!:scared1:

It get's better. When I've taken some time off running the first few times back on the pavement I was sucking wind.

Debbie & I ran a 5k this morning, the Shamrock & Shenanigans. I was a good run but pretty hilly. I need to find a training run trail to get some hill practice in, the 5K was tiring. I finished in 28:53, and I was pretty happy about it.
Next weekend is another Shamrock themed 10k. Four weeks till my next half, I need to step up my training. Luckily we are having nice weather here, but I know the snow isn't done yet.

Sending happy thoughts to everyone this week.

Joe
btw: Carissa, Debbie was singing the "wubba wubba" song all day yesterday.

Hello Ducks,

I just completed my 2nd event the Gate 15K in JAX this weekend. It was a pretty tough event even though it was just 15K. It has several hills and two suspension bridges. The second bridge is the last mile of the race. Local runners call this bridge the GREEN MONSTER!! and for good reason it's about a mile long and the start of it is pretty steep incline. But there are some amazing views once you reach the top of the bridge then is is literally all downhill to the finish! I walked this one but I highly recommend this for both experienced runners and walkers. The weather was perfect 64F but we did have some 30mph winds to deal with which made this more challenging.
I had a great time doing this. I will definitely do this again next year.

Signing up for the TOT. So Liz you can count me in for that one. Looks like we'll have a good time with the post race events.

Well I better get back to work.

Keep on training ducks!

Colleen

Hello everyone! I have been reading posts for some time now, but everytime I try to post, it seems like I screw something up. In any case, I figure I'll get it right eventually...

More to the point - It is time for me to quit reading these conversations and join in. We are a family of 3 that runs together. We still consider ourselves beginners, because even though we have been running for about 2 years - there is still so much to learn! In fact, we JUST tried the galloway method for the first time a few days ago! I think I'm going to like it.

We will be participating in EEC 2012. First time-can't wait!

After that, my DH and I are considering training for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Maybe. However, until this point, the farthest we have gone is a 5k distance - so I don't know...
