Thanks Liz. I kinda figured my shoes were ok but then I'd read stuff and it would say you must get proper "running" shoes to support your feet/body so I'm not sure . Do you think your torn achilles was due to your shoes? I'm sore at times but then I'm unfit at the minute too! Funny I never thought I'd say this but I miss doing my wee runs this week even though I feel like it might possibly kill me while I do them:rotfl2:

I want to add that I have a pair of expensive running shoes (Asics gel kushon) but I didn't go to a running store to be fitted. They absolutely are not okay for me, and I'll be going this weekend to my local running store for a proper fitting. Good shoes are very important, but ones that fit your feet are priceless.

DH received an offer from one of his top choices this evening. We are over the moon. He's going to take a few days to see if any others come through, but it looks like I'll be training for the Princess in the corn belt.

Congratulations!

I would start the next week and if that first day is too much than back off and repeat the previous week.

This is what I recommend as well. :thumbsup2

As for shoes, you basically need a pair of sneakers that will support your feet properly. We all have different feet -- some of us are flat footed, some have high arches, some over-pronate, some under. I do think proper foot gear is important to preventing injury.

Thanks Carissa-think I will arrange to get new footwear as soon as I shake this cold. I've been putting away £2 for every lb weight I've lost so at least I have a wee bit saved towards the cost:thumbsup2

That's an awesome reward system! I love my new sneakers. They fit like a glove. :)

Aren't new running shoes just the best?!

Liz - I, too, bought a second pair of the 2160's from runningwarehouse! :) They're in the closet waiting for summer/fall. OH, and my daughter is in the same boat as you - she fractured her ankle. Just a tiny little bit, but enough to be in a boot. Except they didnt' have one in her size, so she's in a cast. Poor thing, but she's taking it really well, and it's only for 2 weeks. Hang in there!

Good afternoon everyone!

Advice please... (FYI - I'm going into the relm of TMI a bit.)

I am having surgery next week for a breat lift and augment. (breast feeing + 70 pounds of weight loss + a year of running = going from DD's to A's...not pretty.)

I met with several physicians. One was a runner and said he would recommened walking at 1 week post surgery and running 2 weeks after surgery. He said that as a runner, he knew the harm in stopping for an extended period of time. He did not feel like there was significant risk, as long as I wore very supportive sports bras and was not having any infection problems at 2 weeks out. The one that I picked said no intense exercise or running at all before 4 weeks. (I like his surgical approach better, but not a huge fan of his position on exercise.)

I have signed up to run a 10K six weeks post op. Doc says running at that point should be ok, but I will only have 2 weeks to get back on track. I had hoped to really push my time for this race to get a better placement for the ToT 10 miler.

Is two weeks enough time? It's only a 10K, but I've have never taken a break from running before.

Would you wait the full 4 weeks?

The smart part of my brain says lay off, but the runner in me says make a go for it at 3 weeks. :confused3

Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice and figured you guys would have the answer:) I havent been running/walking anywhere for a few days now and I'm still loaded with the cold so I reckon its going to be another few days before I get back on track (wk 3 C25K). Do I just pick up where I left off or would you reccommend repeating an earlier week? I've been finding it tough but doable so far though I have been doing most weeks twice before moving on. Also wondering if I should purchase "running" shoes as I've just been wearing trainors that I've had for ages? Does it make a diffewrence if you wear trainors that are specifically for running?
Thanks for any advice:)
I had to go back and repeat weeks a couple times when I started the C25K
I guess you could try the next week but if you feel you need to repeat do it.
I also purchased running shoes and was fitted right off the bat.
My feet are very narrow with a very high arch that gives me trouble so I knew I needed the support right away.

Congrats!!!!! Yipee!! We are so happy for you

I think you know your body best... If you feel like you could do a brisk walk, try it. No one knows your body like you do, listen to it.

Hi Ducks!

Hope you're all having a fantastic weekend. It's cold here in Georgia finally. I was beginning to think we were going to skip winter this year. I'm going to try and get my last run of the week in tomorrow, but this wind makes me wish I had access to a treadmill.

I went to my local running store and bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire 8's today. They're pretty awesome, and I'm excited. I know that if I like these, they're a bit cheaper to order online; however I'm confused about something since I've never owned Mizunos before. The box says Mizuno Wave Inspire 8 (W). Does that W mean womens or wide? Just curious. :confused3

I think it means women's because I've seen Mizuno use "D" to deignate wide and "B" for medium. I'm looking to switch brands, let us know how they work out for you. Good luck!

Good evening Ducks!

Hoping everyone is doing well.

Jeni - We'll be thinking of you this week.

Crystal - How are the shoes working out?

Everyone - Have a great week!

Got on the TM for 3.25 miles this morning. Jogged the distance, but the knee still ached. I haven't been in a real hurry to press the doctor for the referral, but I guess I need to.

:cool2:

I would think that biking would keep up the aerobic fitness and not pound your body that much. I bike a lot.

Vic, John Force gets another win, winning a Team Force final at the Winternationals.

Winter has finally hit NY, it has been pretty cold here the last few days. Even a little snow, which did not stay long. I have not run any since my last race, so I have to start it up again. And I signed up for my first tri, which will be in April. 400 yd swim, 6 mile bike, and 2 mile run.

Have a good week!

well, i woke up bright and early Sunday morning in the cold weather and headed out the door to run! I did 11 miles and although I was a tad bit slower than I wanted I think I did pretty well.

I have a few 6 and 4 milers before we head out to WDW. I can not wait!!

I am finally getting excited and I plan on signing up for the ToT 10 miler while I am there. :woohoo:

We will also be there for the leap year Magic Kingdom day.. Yup, I plan on a very late night there!!

I will lwt you know all about it!;)

Tim – How are you?

Vic: I'm doing well, Just trying to stay moving. Getting ready for my coming races. I've added a 5k to my 10k and Half in April. So we'll see. How are you doing. How's that knee? I hope it starts feeling/getting better.

Tim~Hi! Joe and I looked for you at the start of the half. Renee gave me a brief description of you and I went up to a guy who totally fit it and asked him if he was Tim, he wasn't you.
That's great you've got a couple races coming up.

Liz: I looked for you guys also. I walked up to a few people and inquired if they were A Triple D. Talk about a blank stare. I hate I missed you guys. Hopefully next time we can meet up. I believe I am going to run the Tower of Terror run in September.

Hope the rest of you Ducks are doing well. We are heading down to WDW Tuesday night, plan on spending the day Wednesday at Downtown Disney then get on the boat Thursday. Just counting the days down. Hope everyone has a great weekend and week next week.

Tim

Hey Tim, see you in September! Have a great trip next week!

I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially if it is a three day one!

Hi to all of the Ducks!
I am sitting in my room at the M Resort in Henderson NV looking at the Vegas strip. We are let off our leashes for the rest of the day, so we are going downtown to the Vegas strip.
I ran 3.25 miles this morning around the resort. It felt good to get out, the item change is messing with my sleep and the meals here are really good, so I'm eating way too much. It has been a good conference though and I'm up $195 (so far). Update: only $70 up.
Most of the run this morning was on concrete sidewalks, so I really felt it on my shins. I will wait till I get home to do another run.
Tim: have a good time, I'm hoping to do the ToT 10 miler also this fall.
Have a good weekend everyone:hippie:

Hey Karen! I'm just about ready for the Princess Half, too. Getting really excited to get down there and seeing my sister and niece who will also be running with me. My sister is spending this weekend sewing our Fairy God Mother costumes. I'll be (blue) Meriweather. My sis and niece will be Flora and Fauna. Obviously, I haven't seen the final product, but know that it won't be too cumbersome, because my sis is gonna have to run in it, too! :lmao: She's sewing skirts and little capes. She's already made the hats and we'll wear wings and carry wands. I know...it'll be a very slow half marathon.:thumbsup2

So I ran the 2012 WDW Half in early January, then spent a week playing in the parks. The day I got back to the office, I found out I was due to work out of town. For the next month! So I've been working about 150 miles from Houston on a mega-project, living in a hotel and out of a suitcase for the past 5 weeks. I made it home one weekend. I found a decent 4 mile path to run near the hotel during the week in the early mornings.

Last weekend, I decided to run 12 miles before going in for a full day of work on Saturday (yep, I was working 12 straight days). I casually told one of my collegues that I'd be a bit late, but if he didn't see me by 8 AM, he should come looking for me in roadside ditches. Well, wouldn't you know it...I got lost!:scared1: And I was pretty late in getting back to the hotel and showered and to the plant. I rolled in around 9 AM. Needless to say, my collegue was frantic by then. I hadn't taken my cell phone or plant radio and he had no way of contacting me. Oops!:rolleyes1

Anyhoo, I'm done with that assignment (for a few weeks) but now have to fly to Tulsa on Monday for another job. :confused3 I'm skipping the last day of meetings up there on Friday and flying back to Houston late Thursday night so I can fly to Orlando on Friday! :dance3:

We're flying out on the 29th, so will miss the "extra day" thing. We're staying at Bay Lake Tower and driving to the expo and race. I'm scared to death about the early morning drive to the race and getting stuck in traffic and missing the start. Anyone got any advice?!?:confused3

Joe - You gonna make enough for your WDW race registrations for the rest of 2012 while you're there? If so, you gotta stop that negative trend...

I always make it back up at the airport before flying home:wizard:
