Hi Ducks - I am hanging in there and trying to get my motivation back. I am excited to say I am officially entered for the ING Miami half marathon on January 27, 2013. Its still a year away but I am so excited to have a big race in my future. Still hoping to go Goofy again in 2013 but that depends on $$. So at least for now I know I have to be prepared for a half in the end of January. YEAH I am BACK

Hello Ducks,

Been busy here at work for a while, I've neglected the flock. Sorry.

Still having unseasonably warm winter in N. FL. 80"F today. 6 more weeks of winter. If you call that winter I'll take it. :) LOL

Registered for the Gate 15K in JAX March 10. Should be a good one.
Apparently very popular event. 9 miles timed run. Hoping to get a good time since this will be my 2nd event ever. Looking forward to 2013 HALF at WDW. Booked into hotel already. Recruiting a friend from work and my sister may come also.

Well back to the grind. LIZ hope your foot is getting better.

TTFN Colleen

Nothing much going on with me, but I just have to brag that I completed the 3rd week of my modified C25K program yesterday. Tuesday begins 90 second run intervals, and I am pumped. I can't believe the girl who could barely run for 30 seconds three weeks ago is about to run 3x that.

Also, since Vic mentioned it, I'm on facebook (Crystal Wyser) in case anyone wants to connect there.
Way to go on the C25K!! That is exactly how I started and at the age of 40 could not go a block. now I am doing half marathons! It boggles the mind!
Okay. Random post because this is my 7,000th post here on the Dis!! :dancer:

Carry on. pirate:
Woot!!! busy girl getting to 7,000 posts!! LOL

I find that if I am not signed up for a run I am not motivated to get out and run.

I started taking supplements for the arthritis and it is slowly getting better. Such a catch 22.. it is good to keep the area moving but it hurts so much to move.

I am seriously thinking about doing the ToT 10 miler.. anyone else doing it?

Happy weekend Ducks!

Not much going on with me, Like what Tricia & Karen said, I am having a difficult time getting motivated to work out. I just signed up for a trail half marathon on April 28th http://trailmarathon.com/
I am going to make today my first day back to working out. The weather is nice today, so I'm going to go for a run this afternoon. As long as this weather can hold up I think I can get a couple more runs in during the week after work. With that an a couple Bob Harper workout DVD's during the week and I think I can get back.

I leave for a 5 day trip to Las Vegas on the 15th for a Signs By Tomorrow national meeting, hopefully I can get a couple runs while there. I wasn't planning on going this year, but our franchise was just purchased by another franchise company and I want to get information first hand instead of hearing about it later. I don't think it will change my business, but we went through a name change in 03 after a franchise change that eventually turned into a good thing.

Karen, Liz: how's the hip and foot doing?
Crystal: nice job on moving up in C25K training.
Hope everyone is getting better with ailments and training well.

Luna update: she and Mushu are getting along now and she is getting better with the house training. Has anyone had a dog that is a picky eater? Our last beagle would eat anything and Luna doesn't like much. We have resorted to cutting up chicken to mix in with her dry food, but event then she won't finish it in one sitting. One thing she doesn't mind eating are nuggets that come from the cat box:scared1:.

Have a good week, Ducks!:hippie:

Joe

I did a 5 mile run this afternoon. We have had really good weather the last couple of weeks. I don't expect it, but it would be nice if it stayed this way.
The new shoes felt good, no problems with my feet or legs. :thumbsup2

I keep forgetting to put my 2 cents in on playlists to run to. I made a couple running playlist on my iPhone with all different kinds of music. Of course a few Disney songs are on the lists. "Go the distance" is a good one. My all time favorite song to run to is The Wise Guys "Ooh La La.
http://youtu.be/IRnvufbd1Jc
I have one song that I need to remove from the playlist, it's Jackson Browne's "Running on Empty". Even on shuffle that song comes up towards the end of every run. I don't need to be reminded that I'm tired.

Logged my 12th run today to complete week 4! Moving up to 90 second runs was pretty brutal, but I got through it.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like I'm ready to move up to C25K week 3 (3 min runs, yikes!), so I'm going to repeat week 2. I have around a 4 week cushion with the 5k I want to run, so it should be okay.

Also, things are going to get hairy for me as far as scheduling my runs this week. I've been on a Tues, Thurs, Sat schedule (yes, I'm a Buffett fan) so far, but DH has to go to NOLA early on Tuesday to give a talk at Tulane. He won't be back until late Thursday evening, so I think I'm going to run Monday, Friday, and Sunday this week. I'm a creature of habit, so I don't know how I'm going to like messing with my schedule.

On a more personal note, DH is on the cusp of completing his PhD in mathematics, so we're in the middle of a job search. This is a very exciting, yet incredibly stressful time for our family. My runs have truly been my escape during all the drama of the job hunt. And believe me, there is drama. I never knew that universities could be so dodgy when dealing with potential employees. They want to know where you stand with everyone else, but they won't tell you a darn thing about where you stand with them. It is frustrating, to say the least.

Hello Ducks!!! Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I finally got back into running this week after taking off since the marathon. It started off pretty slow but it feels good to be back into it. I have signed up for two races, the Crescent City Classic (10k) in NOLA and the RnR Nashville Half. The CCC is in early April and the RnR is in late April. So we'll see how it goes.

Renee it was very nice meeting you at the race. Everyone that I missed I'm sorry I did not get to meet you guys this go around.

Enjoy your weekend and have a great week!

Tim

Joe -- Baxter also likes to get treats from the litter box. :rolleyes1 It's pretty nasty. That's why we have to gate our stairs and keep the box up there. I wouldn't call Baxter picky, but there are definitely some dog foods he's not as fond of. I do try to feed him real food as often as I can. I buy a lot of ground turkey or chicken and barely cook it in the microwave. The one dog food that he absolutely LOVES is Chef Michael's. He's nuts for it. I try to buy the best quality food that I can for him (which can't really be bought at the grocery store), but he loves Chef Michael's so much so if I can't get to Petsmart for his regular food, I'll buy that. You might want to give it a try.

Good morning Ducks! Are you ready for some football, and commercials? I’m making Buffalo chicken breasts in the slow cooker for game time.

Liz – Hope the foot is doing well.

Augie – Congrats on your 10 miler.

Crystal – Keep up the great work with C25K. Everything will be fine.

Tricia – Glad to see you back.

Carissa – 7000 posts? You go girl! :thumbsup2

Colleen – Good luck with the 15K next month.

Joe – What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. :confused3 Have fun. WTG with the 5 miler. Can’t give you any advice about dog food. Our two knuckleheads eat just about anything.

Tim – How are you?

I jogged/walked 3 miles last Sunday. The knee hurt when I jogged, but it wasn’t bad enough to make me stop. We’ll try it out again this morning. Still haven’t heard anything from the Doc. Maybe a gentle reminder is in order. :sad2:

:cool2:

Joe - "Picky eater" and "nuggets from the cat box" is an oxymoron! :rotfl: Ooooh, and BTW, I'm interested in a Duck shirt also.

Sorry I haven't visited the pond in a while, fellow Ducks. Let's see...how did this go? I got back from WDW after Marathon Weekend on January 14. I went to the office on Monday, January 16, to find out I was overdue in reporting to an out-of-town project. So I was back out of Houston on January 17. I've been in and (mostly) out of town ever since. I've slept in my own bed maybe three nights since the 17th. Ick.

The good part is I've been able to keep up with my running. I've been back at it pretty hard since the Princess Half is creeping up on us. I ran 10 miles yesterday here in Houston. We've had a really wet weekend. I woke up to pouring down rain at about 5:15 AM yesterday. It was so hard and loud it woke me up. But by 6 AM, it had cleared. So I decided this was my break in the clouds, so I went for it. Sure enough, and I kid you not, it was dry from the sky until I got to the 5 mile turnaround point. My Garmin literally showed 4.99 miles when I felt the first drop. Of course, I was soaked by 5.25 miles and I had another 4.75 miles to get home. I was drenched, but my shoes are squeeky clean now! Actually, I forgot how much fun running in the pouring-down rain can be. Those close lightning strikes were a bit scary and loud. But COOL at the same time! :thumbsup2

I'll shoot for a 12-miler next weekend, then taper until the Princess Half on February 26. My sister is busy making our three costumes: Flora, Fauna, and Meriweather. Not sure how we're going to run in capes, wings, hats, and carrying wands. :confused3

Sounds like everyone is doing well - or as well as can be expected! It's great to keep up with everyone's progress. Even if it does include eating nuggets from the cat box! :rotfl2:

Vic - I sent you a FB friend request. I'm the "Renee" that wants to friend you.

Happy Superbowl Sunday Ducks!

So I may not be running right now but I did just order some new running shoes! Got the Asics 2160's at runningwarehouse.com for $54.xx. Instead of using the 10% off wishraced code, I used another code, fb15d, for 15% off. That code was posted on slickdeals..my friend told me about it.

My foot hurts some mornings, some mornings it doesn't. It's so weird. I CANNOT wait to start running again. And I wonder if not running really makes any difference with it anyway.

Tricia~That's great you have a race on the calendar, for certain!

Colleen~I read about that JAX run...it sounds like an exciting event!

Karen~I hope the supplements continue to help you!

Joe~Cool, it'll be interesting to hear about your trail race!

Crystal~
WTG on week 4! Nothing wrong with repeating weeks, keep up the great work!
Best of luck with your dh's job hunt!!! :wizard:

Tim~Hi! Joe and I looked for you at the start of the half. Renee gave me a brief description of you and I went up to a guy who totally fit it and asked him if he was Tim, he wasn't you.
That's great you've got a couple races coming up.

Vic~Enjoy your superbowl buffalo chicken! We might get some wings from a place we like.
Hang in there with the knee...and the doctor...ugh, doctors! I hope I don't have to see one again for a long time!

Renee~Sounds like you will be ready for the Princess. I wish I was doing it again this year!

I've been reminded why I do not want a dog....cats would never do such a thing. :snooty:

Two left feet...I am visiting my parents in MS and found two left tennis shoes in my suitcase as I was getting ready for a run. Whoops! :rotfl: No run for me today. Bummed.

Oh my goodness!! What a bummer but that is very funny!! :lmao:

I did a 9.5 run this weekend and felt great! I have a 12 miler planned for Saturday and then tapering down a bit befor the Princess. I am driving so I hope that doesn't affect my run to bad.
Hip is getting better, but as expected, cold wet days are tough.

Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice and figured you guys would have the answer:) I havent been running/walking anywhere for a few days now and I'm still loaded with the cold so I reckon its going to be another few days before I get back on track (wk 3 C25K). Do I just pick up where I left off or would you reccommend repeating an earlier week? I've been finding it tough but doable so far though I have been doing most weeks twice before moving on. Also wondering if I should purchase "running" shoes as I've just been wearing trainors that I've had for ages? Does it make a diffewrence if you wear trainors that are specifically for running?
Thanks for any advice:)

I would start the next week and if that first day is too much than back off and repeat the previous week.

When I first started running, by doing the C25K, I wore some inexpensive running shoes. They worked fine for me for several months until I tore my Achilles wearing them. After I healed from that, I went to a running store and got fitted for shoes that were right for me (and were more expensive). And that's what I've worn since.

Thanks Liz. I kinda figured my shoes were ok but then I'd read stuff and it would say you must get proper "running" shoes to support your feet/body so I'm not sure . Do you think your torn achilles was due to your shoes? I'm sore at times but then I'm unfit at the minute too! Funny I never thought I'd say this but I miss doing my wee runs this week even though I feel like it might possibly kill me while I do them:rotfl2:
