So I had my doctor's appt. yesterday afternoon. This time I saw a surgeon, as opposed to the physician's assistant I saw last week. He took another set of x-rays and guess what? My foot is NOT broken!! Nope, not a crack to be seen. Who knows what the line was that myself and the PA saw last week..I'm ceratinly no expert and maybe this PA shouldn't be reading x-rays either!!

So yeah, no stress fracture afterall. That's the great news! :) The not so great (but not nearly as bad) news is that there is still something going on with my foot. He said the sharp pains I feel could be the bones rubbing together (not my metatarsals but the bunch of roundish bones closer to the ankle). And the more dull pains are in soft tissue. He said no running for 6 weeks and if the pains are still there after that they'll do an MRI.

I can't imagine it wouldn't heal all the way in 6 weeks. But I've got to be honest, it's going to be hard not to run for that long. I will keep on biking, and do my best to stay strong and not run. Gotta keep my eye on the prize, Goofy!!!!

Vic~Hang in there with the knee!

Renee~C2C for your 50th sounds like a great idea! Maybe I'll finally go C2C next year too.
I wish I had thoughts and opinions about Disney cruises because that would mean I'd been on one. Happy planning!

Carissa~Gotcha. Good luck with it!

Hey everyone :)

Liz and Moira -- The DASH diet is specific for lowering blood pressure. (Link included on the words DASH diet.) Its main focus is on increasing fruits and veggies (4 servings of each a day), eating a bit of low-fat dairy, and limiting meat protein. (Whole grains are also included.) I'm not following it regligiously as I think some of it is outdated and I also don't feel the same way about some foods that the writers do (for example: I stay FAR, FAR away from margarine and only use butter or a butter/olive oil mix). But focusing on increasing fruits and veggies is a good thing for our entire family.

Funny we stay well away from margarine here too-I'd much rather a wee bit of butter thats got no yucky things in! My dad wouldn't have marg in the house when I was growing up because he said his sisters got to eat their butter rations during WW2 and he swore then he would never eat margarine again:rotfl:

Moira - Congrats on the weight loss! And good luck with week 2. :thumbsup2 I'm working on my BS in Social Sciences.

Thanks for the well wishes:) You must be a busy lady between homeschooling those 3 boys of yours and studying:worship: Good luck with the BS

Good morning everyone!

Did my 5K run this morning at a 9:35 pace! Really loving my Nike+ sportband. It's definietly helping with my speedwork.

I think I talked my mom into walking the Half in 2013. My parents came to watch the kids, while DH and I ran the Half this year. She got insired watching people in her age and weight group finishing the race. She has never been really motivated to exercise, so this is a big deal for her.

DH and I are doing the New Orleans Crescent City Classic 10K in April, the ToT 10-miler in September and the WDW Full in January. So, I sat down yesterday with a few trainaing programs and mapped out my runs for the entire year. I'm big on planning. It's three parts Hal Higdon sprinkled with a little Jeff Galloway! :rotfl: I never thought I'd say this, but I'm completely addicted to running. :goodvibes

Liz - Good luck taking it easy for the next few weeks! DH went nuts when his foot was hurting last year. He refused to go to the doctor, so we never confirmed the problem. He just biked for a few weeks before the Half and was able to go right back into running without any major problems. You'll be Goofy in no time!

Hey Liz, great news with no breaks, but too bad about 6 weeks off. Still plenty of time until Goofy though. And it is good that you are still able to bike. That is what keeps me going!

Renee, I have been on one Disney cruise. Can't compare to other cruises, as that was it, but it was great. Loved Castaway Cay.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I am doing a 10 mile Run to the Brewery this Saturday. It should be a little milder than last year, it was sub 20 at the start.

Liz, fantastic news about your foot! 6 weeks will fly by - and then it'll be spring! :thumbsup2 Hopefully your foot will be good as new by then.

Renee, I cruised on the Disney Magic 11 years ago  and then on Carnival 10 years ago. Disney wins, no contest. If you can get over the sticker shock, that is! Everything was better, food, entertainment, guests, etc... We had such fun, even sans kids! FWIW, my mom isn't extremely mobile either (she has COPD, and a bum knee, so uses an ECV in the parks) and she cruised NCL to Alaska and loved every moment.

Joe, I'd be interested in a Ducks shirt, for sure!!

I wish I could fly south for the winter, like a real duck. ;)

Jeni~Wow way to go on your speedy 5k!!
That's great your mom might do the half! If more people could see for themselves all the different types who do these events I'm sure more would go for it too.
Your dh had the right idea to not go to the doctor. ;) I wish I had skipped the whole thing and just ridden my bike for awhile!

Augie~I always think of you and all the biking you do and it's obviously helped you to be a great runner!
Good luck with your run for beer this weekend! ;)

Tanya~thanks:) Hey your avatar is great! Lol

Tanya[/B]~thanks:) Hey your avatar is great! Lol
Thanks. It was national pie day on Monday. Any celebrations from anyone? Chocoalte cream here. This was posted on Runners World, so I swiped it for myself. It pretty much sums up the reason why I run. :rotfl:

Thank you everyone for the advice on my knee! :yay:

I ran four miles Wednesday & it was fine. CRAZY! But I'm still going to work on my abs, long stretches after running & really concentrate on my foot strike.

Renee: I'm so jealous! I wanna go C2C & on a cruise too!

Joe: I DEFINITELY want a Ducks shirt!

Vic: Did you find anything more about your knee?

Have a FABULOUS weekend everyone! I'm running as soon as this rain stops. 62 degrees in January????

well Ducks,
I found the problem of my hip.. I have arthritis!?!? Aren't I to young for this!!??

Advil and Icy Hot have now become my friends.. Once things get warmed up, like after a mile or two, the pain goes away. That explains why I only started having problems when I got back from sunny Arizona! I hope I can manage a few long runs outside before heading down to Florida for the Princess Half..

Sounds like many of the ducks are moving forward and making things happen.

I love hearing about what is going on with all of you!!! :grouphug:

Hey all!

Vic: the new shoes passed the treadmill test, I hope to give them a try on the pavement tomorrow.
I have not done any running or workouts this week. The beagle we adopted on Sunday has been keeping us busy. Luna is a year old and she was one of 3 sisters that were surrendered to the Humane Society. The 3 dogs lived outside the whole time and didn't have much human contact. All 3 beagles were adopted that day. Sunday night wasn't a good night, it was the first night alone for her, but everyday she is getting better. We are working on the house training and getting her into a normal routine.
OK I have a running question. Has anyone done a trail race? Their is a half marathon trail race not to far from here in April and it sounds like it could be fun. I just wonder how much different it is. I think I might try it and if I like it, there is another similar race in August at another park.
I will do start doing some research on ted shirts and think about a WISH Duck shirt design.
Have a good weekend everybody.

Joe

I also use a mixture put out by Land 'o Lakes that is butter and olive oil and spreads like margarine. :thumbsup2

The studying does keep me very busy, but I like it. I'm the type of person who thinks about stuff way too much so having the distraction of school work is good for me. :goodvibes

Carissa Thanks for the link to the Dash Diet-sounds like it would be good for everyone:thumbsup2

It is!

Glad you found the problem, Karen. Not sure how old you are, but arthritis can start pretty early. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly for you at the Princess.

Puppies sure are hard work! I'm sure with all the love you and Debbie are giving her, she will be well-adjusted to her new life soon.

I've never done a trail race, but I have done some running on trails and I enjoy it.

That's great your knee was ok! It is frustrating how issues can come and go with no explanation, isn't it?!

It's been a very mild winter so far, I love it!!! I am ready for spring. Not getting my hopes up though, I know we could still get some winter weather yet.

Oh no Karen, I'm sorry to hear that! Hang in there...

Joe

I did a training run on a trail once. This was back during my first year as a runner and I remember it was tricky. It was a bumpy trail, tree roots, etc. and I didn't like worrying about each and every step and not twisting my ankle. A snake came out in front of me on that run, that was fun. lol

I also use a mixture put out by Land 'o Lakes that is butter and olive oil and spreads like margarine. :thumbsup2
...

We use that, it's delicious!

Good morning Ducks!

Hoping everyone is doing well.

Liz – Great news about the foot. Continue to take it easy.

Jeni – Nice pace! I need to sit down and do some training planning myself. I’m currently reading Hal Higdon’s Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide to see what I can come up with.

Augie – How was the run?

Tanya – Apple for me.

Karin – Glad to hear all is well. Weird, isn’t it? My doctor couldn’t find anything obvious, so she is supposed to refer me to an Orthopedist. Still waiting. May get on the TM today and check it out.

Karen – Sorry to hear about the arthritis.

Joe – Glad to hear Luna is doing well. Never done a trail race before. I may be interested in a shirt.

As soon as it heats up a little I need to get outside and clean the scooter. I rode on Friday and its covered in pollen. Pollen in January. Crazy. For all of you Facebookers, I'm Vic Everett. Stop on by and say hey.

:cool2:

Hi Ducks! Hope the weekend is going well for everyone! Yesterday I did a 10 mile Run to the Brewery, and did ok, bettered my time from last year, but last year was still recovering from the Half, maybe, as it was the following weekend. This year we had a few weeks between. Weather was much better, the 40's is better than the teens! I do not feel as sore today as I did following the Half. Great turnout, almost 1200 runners, and the best part was the beer at the end!

I have done some trail running, Joe, as part of the mountain bike duathlons. As several have said, you have to watch your step in places for sticks and holes. I have also done a few 5K's not on pavement, one was around a vineyard, and one was through a park, and I found running on the soft surface, although nicer for your knees, legs and feet, perhaps, increased my times by close to two minutes. But I guess it is also increasing everyone elses as well, so it seems not to matter.

Sorry to hear about the arthritis, Karen. Good luck at the Princess!

Have fun at the Gators, Vic! I am looking forward to Englishtown in June.

Ha! That reminds me of a time when I was running at lunchtime and caught up to a friend out running. We were both pretty sweaty, and I asked why we were doing this. His reply was "because I love burgers and beer." I agree with that! Oh, and I will take some blueberry.

Have a good week!

Nothing much going on with me, but I just have to brag that I completed the 3rd week of my modified C25K program yesterday. Tuesday begins 90 second run intervals, and I am pumped. I can't believe the girl who could barely run for 30 seconds three weeks ago is about to run 3x that.

Also, since Vic mentioned it, I'm on facebook (Crystal Wyser) in case anyone wants to connect there.

:rotfl: That cracked me up!

Congrats again on your 10 miler!

Woohoo, way to go Crystal! I remember feeling exactly like you! It's amazing how that program works. :)

I just tried to find you on fb and couldn't..I'll send you a pm with the link to mine.

Vic - The only Vic Everett I found lives in Washington State but your location says Niceville, FL. (I remember having a conversation with you way, way back about that because my BIL lives in Niceville.) **edited -- Found you through Joe's friend list. :)

Augie - Glad your race went so well! :cool1:

Crystal - Congrats on completing week 3! :thumbsup2
