First off, let me start by saying this is my very first post on the boards. I've listened to the podcasts for many months now, and figured it was about time to experience the whole thing! I'm super pumped!!!

Now onto my question...where should we stay, The Dolphin or POFQ? I know what you are all probably saying...what kind of question is this? The answer is obvious. However, my heart and mind are telling me two different things. Obviously the Dolphin is very high class and contains the most comfortable beds on property (something I learned from my good friends on the podcast). But I'm just wondering if it has the same "Disney" feel as something along the lines of the French Quarter. My wife and I are going down to celebrate our 1 year anniversary!!! We are both teachers, so we get the very nice discount on the rooms at the Dolphin but being a somewhat frequent visitor to Disney, I need "the magic" if you will :) I need your help!!! Thank you, and it's an honor to join your ranks!

We are in the same boat. My husband is a teacher and I was quoted a great rate. Staying at the Dolphin, you cant get the DDP, so that is a reason to go to the POFQ

For me, it's the Dolphin, hands down. The location alone would make the decision for me. You will be moments away from both Epcot and MGM, not to mention right by the Boardwalk. Your dining options will be huge--going to WS for dinner is wonderful.

You can't get the DDP but the plan doesn't work for my family for many reasons. We usually stay at a deluxe so the savings at the Dolphin more than cover our food.

The staff at the Dolphin are fabulous--very helpful and efficient. And being able to watch Illuminations while lying in bed is magical enough for me.

Congratulations on your anniversary and welcome to the DIS boards!

My vote is for the Dolphin, if you are not interested in the DDP. POFQ is nice, but like the pool at the Dolphin. IMO it is one of the best pools on property.

Good Luck!

Dolphin!! You'll be right in the heart of Disney property, staying at a deluxe-level resort, just a short stroll away from Epcot and DHS. How much more magic do you need? Have a great time!

No question-The Dolphin
I like feeling papmered on vacation and you get it here. It's closer to Epcot and Disney Studios, the Boardwalk, and the Beach Club-than POFQ.
The Dolphin is a deluxe and POFQ is a moderate and you can tell.
The restaurants are outstanding.
The pool area is great
The Disney Dining Plan is not all its cracked up to be since they've taken changed it. The only advantage is that your meals are prepaid.Don't let that make your decision.

Another vote for the Dolphin. I have never been to POFQ(but have been to the other mods), but LOVE the location and amenities at the Swan/Dolphin. I don't think you'll miss any magic when you have views out your window of a Disney Park!

Another vote for Dolphin. Boardwalk, EPCOT, MGM! What more can you ask for?

The first time we went to Disneyworld with our entire adult family we had a reservation at a moderate Disney hotel. With the entertainment book price we were able to get a rate at the Dophin less than the Disney hotel would have been. When we arrived we were overwhelmed by the hotel, location and atmosphere. You will defintely feel you are at Disneyworld and will not regret choosing the Dolphin for your stay.

Having stayed at both, I would stay at the Dolphin in a heartbeat. POFQ is a very nice property, but there is no comparison in service, atmosphere, being in the "heart" of it all, etc. Especially if this is a trip for adults, you can not go wrong with the Dolphin. The restaurants are probably the best on Disney Property, there are lounges, the proximity to the Boardwalk is wonderful, the boat transportation to EPCOT and MGM is very pleasant, the pool is much nicer than POFQ.
Even if it is a trip with the kiddos, you caznnot go wrong either. My kids (boys 14, 11, 7) prefer the Swan/Dolphin to any hotel we have stayed at on property or off.

We felt very isolated at POFQ. Not sure what the problem was, but it just didn't suit us. We DID have to make a trip to Boatwright's at POR for the Sweet Potato Panckaes!!!!!

Question for all of you teachers :teacher: about booking the Dolphin.

The official WDW site allows us to choose Swan/Dolphin. My question is can I get the teacher discount by booking directly through Disney? Or do I have to go directly through the Dolphin and book room only and then buy my tickets elsewhere?

Thanks all!

Kerri

Hands down no questions... the Dolphin. There is no comparison. A deluxe resort right in the middle of Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Boardwalk. How much more Disney can you get!

I love POFQ, but we are with kids. IMO, I don't think you would like the pool are, I hate that dragon. Anyway, my vote is the Dolphin for just adults.

Dolphin!

It was so great last summer! You have to call the dolphin to get the teacher discount. Make sure to check the rate when you get there as they had us down for the gov. rate which was a little more.

The rest., pool, bed are all MUCH better!

Monica

Wow...thank you all so much for your responses!!! Obviously, you've helped us make a decision...I think the score was Dolphin = 1,000...POFQ = 0. Can't wait!!!
