Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede!

Sorry Folks! - We were left disappointed!

The pre-show saw us all watch an act who was in my eyes an average juggler, whose jokes were as old as him. I know I shouldn't be too unfair and criticise him like that, but seriously he wasn't all that great.

Guests have a choice of which side they wish to be on, either 'north or south'. We chose south; whether that was a good thing or not...

The overall show's setting is in a huge arena and once you see the buffalo entering it, you feel that this show was definitely worth the money you paid for it!

There's eleven competitions that take place, which includes ostrich racing, chicken chasing and pig racing etc etc. These are enjoyable, but over very quickly. As for the meal, it was pleasant enough, but it seems typical that when you are about to watch a good part of the show, the waitress comes round and dishes out more food. Why don't they just hand it out all at once? instead of bit by bit? This would make life so much easier.

This show started at 6:30pm and finished at 7:45pm!!! - This, I think shocked us and others around. The whole event seemed rushed and with the money they made from selling booze in the bar, ticket sales, flag sales, family photographs and merchandise. I feel guests are wripped off!

When we spoke about the event to others afterwards, they also gave it a thumbs down, saying that, the Medievil Dinner is far much better.

I was looking forward to the patriotic finale', but - not for it to be over after just two songs within the space of several minutes.

Wow! Sorry to hear that. We went to The Dixie Stampede's Christmas show and it was AWESOME! We would definitely go again!
We did Medieval Times too. That was good and 3 out of 5 family members liked that better. Of course they are the action adventure type where as DD8 and myself (the 2 out 5 who liked Dixie better) are more of the relaxed type.

EDIT: Our preshow was different. We had a guy playing piano and a lady sining carols..actually we were all singing carols!!

We weren't crazy about this show either. My DGD went down and chased (was it chickens or pigs??) and that was fun for her, but I was glad when it was over. Had that whole lame, slapstick, cornball hokey-ness to it. That Dolly Parton look-a-like with the fake accent--- really grated on my nerves. That said, we did the hoop de doo a couple of years ago and loved it. Go figure! We enjoyed Arabian nights because we are into the horses. The food was pretty good at Dixie Stampede but the whole experience is my opinion was nothing to write home about.

I too also did not like the Dixie Stamede show. I even bought 2 tickets for $25.00 and I still thought it was not worth it.
For years I wanted to go to the Dixie Stampede. I love Dolly Parton, and I thought this show would be alot of fun and expected so much more, and I was going to the Christmas Show, so I was very excited about all of this. I will say the food was good. I agree with jdm, the "whole lame, slapstick, cornball hokey-ness" was unbearable. I was pretty glad when it was over, and I was just disappointed. And then that lame gift shop. There was one picture with Dolly Parton on it for sale, no other merchandise. .... I could not believe that!!! I thought there would be tons of keychains with her picture on it and postcards and a bunch of little things, but NOTHING!!! My family is big Dolly fans so I thought I would get them all a little something, but nothing had HER picture on it, only the Dixie Stampede logo... I thought that was pretty lame.
I really hate to say that I thought it was the worst dinner show I have been to cause I love Dolly Parton, but I thought it really was horrible.

I always chalked this up to being a doozy. Mainly because, being from Tennessee, I know what a doozy Dollywood is. It hurts us, Precious!

I think Dolly is a cool gal and when I was little, I wanted to be her and Wonder Woman (if you think about it, it's pretty easy to figure out why - impressionable child, what can I say?). However, the tourist attractions she puts her name on tend to be a bit on the pitiful side.

NoelGypsy, you might see if you're able to order any Dollywood merch for your friends. However, I can't really recommend a trip there!

Hey blondeheroine, My brother went to Dollywood last year... he said it was ok, he went with alot of friends so I think they could have gone anywhere and had a ball. But he did get alot of Dollywood merchandise from there. And we are into Disney pin trading so of course he got hooked on Dollywood Pin trading.

MickeyP, we got 2 tickets for $25.00 for doing a tour at Parkway Villas... we also got a free breakfast. I never did a timeshare tour before so I wanted to see what it was like, but I probably would never do one again... it actually was not that bad but I would not want to waste 1 1/2 hours again.

we had a bad server, we kept hearing the server in front of us giving a whole bunch of directions on how to cheer, we couldn't even find our guy, then they started serving and i had made it clear my son wants the chicken finger meal,,yeah, yeah, he of course brings the big meal, then we flag him down and he brings out the fingers w/no ketchup, duh,kids like ketchup, none in sight, so at the end when they made a HUGE PLEA for the tips, i refused to go into my pocket-he put his hand out and i shook it.

We had an AWESOME server. He was great! I gladly tipped him. My DS10 got a flower from one of the girls on horseback (we were in the front row) and our waiter came by and noticed that he had this. He gave DS a hard time saying he's been here for a year and she never gave him a flower. Then he says "Did she talk to you? Did you get her number?" It was so funny. He also told us that if we need extra napkins to stick our hands straight out at our sides then "wipe your hands on the person sitting next to you". He even had us all practice! I'm sorry you all had such a disappointing time.

We were at the show on 10/14. It was great. We live by Medieval Times near Chicago and my daughter has worked there for over a year. We found the Dixieland Stampede to be MUCH better in all aspects over Medieval Times. The food was better and there was more of it. We felt the show was better too and it was a less expensive evening than Medieval Times when you figure in the cost and quality of the photos, flags and drinks compared to Medieval Times prices.
I wish they would open one of these by us!

Wow , I was set to book the Dixie Stampede for our upcoming trip - but all these mixed reviews have me leery. We did medieval times on our last trip and thought it was great.

I'm now wondering if we just use our "big dinner" nights for an Epcot restuarant.

This thread clearlys shows why everyone should judge for yourself. Personally we loved Dixe Stampede (seen it twice now) and hate Mediveal Times. Arabian Nights is also good. Went to Dixe for $10 each (rainy day and phoned hour before start of afternoon show. They were glad to let us come for $10

We loved Dixie when we went last year so much that we are returning when we go at Christmas for the Chrismas version of the show.

FYI - If you are a member of AAA, tickets through them are $28.99 plus tax for this dinner show. Childrens tix are $17.50.

We weren't all that thrilled with DS either, I was a bit disappointed to see how small the arena was compared to Arabian Nights and I didn't get into eating with my fingers considering the price we paid for the tickets (I know, some would say that's all part of the fun!!). We enjoyed Arabian Nights much more although I would consider going to the Christmas show if I got a good price on the tickets, maybe.

I also thought it was a big waste of money. We have not attended the others so I have nothing to compare it to. Forty bucks for a show slightly over an hour with handheld food is not an evening of enjoyment for me. The show itself left much to be desired, and it was the Christmas show.

Somewhat off-topic, but driving by Dixie Stampede two nights ago I noticed that, even tho we are still a week out from Halloween, Dolly has already put her Christmas decorations up!!! Giant wreath and everything. Can't she at least wait until November? Just a personal pet peeve.

In all seriousness, does this mean they do the Christmas show starting in mid-October?!? Who is really going to a Christmas show this far out from Christmas? Worse than MNSSHP in mid-September.
