My boys enjoyed that type of interactive play (I also have a girl) and they had (and I have kept) a castle with knights etc, pirate ship with pirates, and even used my DD's princess castle set with theirs. They had furniture and other accessories.
They were Fisher Price -they still have a line, Imaginext Adventures Castle and Imaginext Pirate Ship. Quite a few other castles out there as well.
My boys were too old when FP brought out the Rescue Hero series but they had a neat firehouse that was like a dollhouse and other stuff. I saw one called "Small World Toys Hometown Heroes Fire Station". Looks just like a dollhouse. Also had "KidKraft Firehouse with Truck and 20 Pc Accessories". Back to Basic Toys has a few others, my DM has those at her house, including a farm. I love the wood product.
I love Playmobile but they are very expensive with lots of tiny pieces. Can't go wrong with the FP Little People series.
