I'm renting a Mini-Van for 10 days in late August.Dollar beats Avis by $90.What I'd like to know is does Dollar still charge you a $5 extra fee for a Grand Caravan when you ask for an extended Mini-Van.Also Avis doesn't charge extra for my wife who may drive as well. When you factor these extras in it's a close call. Please post your thoughts and opinions on who to go with.:earsboy:

I also booked Dollar for mid-August, minivan, as a backup. I FORGOT about that extended van charge, we got hit with that the last time we used Dollar, 2 years ago. They also dock for 2nd driver, even if it is a spouse, even if you are a Fastlane member.

I always use National, you avoid both those charges (with Emerald membership), which together would be an extra $10/day. But National is still sky high for August. When August drops there, I will cancel Dollar. I just like to have SOMETHING lines up, just in case.

I am trying to remember, I think Budget also wanted to charge for the longer minivan, but not for 2nd driver?

I've done exactly the same thing.I made a reservation with Dollar and pray that something else opens up.The rental rates for late August are HIGH!!!!!!!!:earsboy:
