Dollar store finds...

For those on a budget, Dollar Tree has a lot of great random items that would normally cost more at target/walmart.

I got namebrand cold medicine, daytime and nighttime (with alcohol content) for $1 each, and a decent size bottle each. Namebrand toothpaste as well.

It's the little/random things that add up, especially since it's always good to have cold medicine in the cabinet, that normally is much more pricey!

Edited to say that yes, these are namebrand products that have not expired. Literally same exact product you would find at target (and have seen the same brand of cold medicine there for $8 per bottle.)

Snopes is one of the well known "joke" websites out there. Not reliable.

But nope, these products were name brand and not expired. Same exact item/brand you'd find at target.

Erm, not sure where you're getting your information, but Snopes is decidedly NOT a "joke" website, and is indeed very reliable (especially for non-political based items). Perhaps you were thinking of The Onion, which is a satirical news site and indeed not a reliable source for news.

I agree, that Snopes is a legitimate website, but have nope problem buying stuff at the dollar stores. If you read the Snopes link in regards to the toothpaste, it said it was fine if it was from or produced for the Canadian market as the have the same if not higher standards than the American standards. I always check expiry dates on items I purchase at any store. I've seen expired items at high end stores too.

Make sure you check the size. I thought I was getting a deal (can't remember the item) but the next time I was at Walmart I found it in a larger size (albeit not THAT much larger) for .98. I have saved a lot shopping there though.

They are selling a lot of those glow in the dark singles/pkgs..bracelets, necklaces, flags on sticks, flowers on sticks, lots of red/white/blue and Lime Green...bunches... that are all great for the parks ( identifies ur family and/or great at evening parades)

Similar to ones at the Parks for pennies on the dollar. Fun, inexpensive way to treat the kids.. or adults for that matter.

Yeah, the things with the name-brand stuff is, they're usually smaller sizes of the identical item. So, if you see Colgate, it's actually Colgate, made in the same factory, just maybe in a 3 ounce tube versus a 6 ounce tube. Ditto for things like Bugles.

I find lots of cool items at the dollar store, but generally stay away from their frozen food. Also, you have to know your prices--some of the canned goods are actually more expensive than you might find at Walmart or similar.

One of my favorite dollar store finds is, they sell the Sunday paper for $1. Great for couponers!

I worked at the dollar store in college. Basically, yes, some items are smaller packaging than you'd find at another store. HOWEVER sometimes dollar stores get buyouts, especially in the packaged foods section, of items that are expiring SOON but aren't yet expired (we were still supposed to pull any expired products off of the shelves, now if they actually do it is a different story...). Most of the time the packaged foods on buyout were set to expire in about 3 months. So still plenty of time to use them. Best deals at the dollar store by far are gift bags and gift tissue, greeting cards, balloons, and glassware (however NOT ceramic items, take it from someone who stocked them regularly, they chip easy).

I LOVE the dollar store and still shop there regularly for the things I mentioned above, and I'm always on the lookout for buyouts.

Definitely! I def check the size and they're not quite full size but still cheaper than buying a big size at target.

I love my Dollar Tree! I always buy my gift bags/tissue and cards there. So much better than a $5 bag from Target.
I also stock up on Disney trip items, including the glow sticks. For our last trip I found Mickey & Princess hardbacked journals, perfect for autographs. I also bought a Minnie night light and lightbulbs (that last surprisingly long!) and the washcloths that "expand", one with Minnie, one with Olaf.
My favorite buy is the folding mesh laundry basket. It's on the smaller side, but GREAT for keeping dirty clothes off the floor and contained.

Dollar tree has these little paper-material fold up boxes. They're flat in my luggage, but I can pop them up and make little storage cubes. I've had the same ones since 2009, so they've been used about 10 trips and still look good. Dollar tree also carries 2 gallon storage bags, which I like better than packing cubes for travelling. I buy most of my hair stuff there - hair bands and brushes and such. Also I've gotten Ace bandages and I buy our bandaids there.

You can use manufacturers coupons there as well. There's a fb group of people that do it all the time- usually get tons of stuff for free. I follow it but haven't put DT on my couponing list- not enough time right now.

My mother is an extreme lover of the dollar stores. I get so sick of hearing "you can get that at the dollar store!" Why I'm an idiot in her eyes because everything I buy at Walmart she gets at the dollar store for $1? Her toothpaste is 1.5 ounces for $1. My toothpaste is 3.2 ounces for $1.98. Not only is Walmart cheaper by $0.02, but it's 0.2 ounces larger.

I find this on most things at the dollar stores. Walmart is typically the same price or a few cents cheaper for more product.

Dollar tree, - Gift bags, wrapping paper, bows, tissue..are my go to... they have Rubbermaid containers a lot at my dollar tree and boy do I stock up when they have them. I also have bought calendars, standard and handbag size for stocking stuffers,

My favorite find at dollar tree recently was the smaller round laundry baskets. I'd been looking for the small ones because they hold one load perfectly. They were $4+ at Wal-Mart.

I always get my gift bags and cards, some holiday decorations, and glow sticks/trinkets from there.

It's a great place for Christmas stocking stuffers. And echoing what others have said, birthday cards, gift wrap, packing tissues, gift bags are must-buys here instead of going to big box stores. I've also gotten my 2017 calendars here, which I've found to be the same ones sold at calendar stores in malls for $15-20.

I was in Dollar Tree this week, getting a few little trinkets to trade with the Jawas, and for the first time checked out the dollar freezer section and bought a few things! I still haven't eaten any of them, but I am now hopeful. Thanks ya'll.

Same thing happened to me. Colgate toothpaste was .98 at Walmart and it was a little larger size. The other thing is canned goods, Rotel was .92 at walmart.
