Dollar Reservation Doesn't Require Credit Card

OK, I have another question about Dollar Car Rental because I'm usually using National, so I'm just not as familiar with their policies.

I've made several reservations for different members of my travelling group, and it just seems odd to me that I can make all of these reservations without entering a credit card to hold it. I will be going back once our flight plans are finalized and cancelling the reservations we don't need, but it just seems odd that they allow reservations without a credit card.

How can they do business like this and manage to have the cars needed when people pick up the car they've made a reservation for? It seems like they'd have a lot of cars that people reserved, but didn't pick up and they have no way of charging people at all for a no-show. I just don't understand! Can anyone comment?

I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that they really will have the cars we've reserved when we show up since they seem to have such a liberal reservation policy!

Very few rental agencies require a credit card to hold the reservation. why? Because people are loath to leave their credit information with them. It is their method of doing business.

We have used Dollar for many, many years at MCO. We have always received the car we reserved. Once, we even got upgraded for free when there was something wrong with our original car.

I reserved a car through Thrifty and they didn't require a card either.

I'm guessing it's something like the airlines then, where they assume a certain percentage of the reservations will not show up. That seems like a difficult way to run a business, but what do I know!
