We rented from Dollar in Aug. There was a small scratch on front of the car we chose that we normally would have taken a pic of...but it was small and it was late so we never did. Upon return of the car, the Dollar rep pointed out the scratch and asked DH if it was there when we picked ot up. DH said yes and we left. Today we get a letter from Thrifty asking for 300 to repair scratch. How do we avoid getting charged for a small scratch we did not cause?

Well it's a bit late, and you didn't take photos. I'd call and argue with them, let them know it was there, but if it wasn't marked down before you checked the car out you're probably going to be on the hook for it.

I took photos of every single panel on our rental, the agent did a good job of documented the three issues. That's one reason why I don't do express pick up, I want a complete walk around together.

DH had a similar problem with Dollar in Myrtle Beach. Cost us over 500.00! We tried to negotiate with them to no avail. I hope you have better luck.

That stinks. Not sure what recourse you have now but if you booked with a credit card you might have coverage under there.
