Dollar Minivans

I emailed customer service at Dollar. I asked how I could make a res. for a "Grand Caravan" and would I be charged additional if I only have a "minivan" res. and was given the Grand at the counter. the reply was:

"Unfortunately, the rate quoted for a minvan would be a 7 passenger regular Dodge caravan or similar. If you ask for the "Grand Caravan" and they have one available, the locations will charge an upgrade to the larger vehicle. Because most locations do not have the larger vehicle, there is no way to reserve it so it is an upgrade feature only. My apologies."

I absolutely believe this should be available on their website; especially since the Grand did not used to be considered an "upgrade".

I agree. You were always given a Grand Caravan in the past when you rented from Dollar. Now, it sounds hit or miss. Not a good way to plan when you need the space for luggage AND people. The thing that may hurt Dollar is from what I can tell, all their competitors still rent the extended wheelbase models. Dollar needs to be crystal clear on what you are getting when you reserve a minivan with them. Not to mension it states on their webpage that the Minivan has 23 cubic feet of cargo space. I can ASSURE you that you do NOT have that much space in a regular Caravan with the seats in place and not folded down.
