We have a two rentals booked for next week and I am trying to decide which one to use. We have a midsize car for $190 and a lock, low and go rate of 188. I've never used the lock, low and go rate. Has anyone used it? What type of car did you end up with?

I did it once and will never do it again. I reserved a mid-size car and when I got to the airport they tried to stick me with a crew cab 8 cyl pick up truck. Told me it would cost more for a car. When I was ready to walk away and rent a car elsewhere they finally gave me a PT Cruiser.

I ALWAYS use that deal, its cheaper most of the time.I have never had a problem, most of the time if they have them I walk away with a mini van! I like it because I get to choose the car (our store gives me the choice) and I get a good deal. The last time I got 149.00 for 7 days and I drove off in a minivan. If I had put in minivan it would have been almost 300.00.

Just booked the Lock Low and Go rate for our trip in November. Not really worried about a gas guzzler since my daily driver is a big Saab SUV that gets about 14mpg.

Anyone have any recent experience with this? The rate was significantly lower for me than the Alamo standard ressie that I'm holding. And while I love being able to select my on car, this seems somewhat similar.

My experience was in February. This is how our time at the counter went:

Me: I know we lock, low and go, is there any chance of a minivan?
SalesMan: No, it's just intermediate cars today.
Me: Okay no problem!
SM: I can upgrade you to an small SUV for another $300 more!
Me: No thanks I'll stick with the imtermediate.
SM: I can upgrade you to a large SUV for $400 more!
Me: No thanks I'll stick with the imtermediate.
SM: Let's see, I'll try all my discounts. How about an SUV for $200 more?
Me: No thanks I'll stick with the imtermediate.
SM: Okay, here are your keys to a minivan in the parking lot.

We were dumbfounded. Now, we know it is their job to upsell, but we ended with exactly what we originally asked for.

FYI...be careful. Friends of ours rented from Dollar in July and the man told them it was a new Florida law that all renters had to purchase insurance through the rental company. This is not true!
