Doing your own hair and make-up?

Has anyone done their own hair and make-up for their wedding. I am really worried about getting it done by someone and hating it. Also, I am most likely doing MK photo shoot the next day, and wouldn't feel comfortable without a trial, so I would have to pay for it three times. Yikes. I consider myself pretty good when it comes to doing hair/make-up, I did my sister's for her wedding (and my own). I figure if I do my own I can just practice a bunch of times until I get it right. Has anyone else done their own? Did you regret it? I do want to spend the morning at the Spa with my mom and sister, so I was thinking we could get mani/pedis and possibly massages, and then go back to my room and get ready.

I thought about it, but I'm really glad I ended up paying to have mine done. I was so frazzled on the morning of and it was nice to just sit still and let someone else take care of it. In retrospect, I would have gotten someone else, but even having it done by someone who didn't do a great job was a lot better than doing it myself.

From what I've seen, if you go with Patricia LeJeune, you won't regret it.

I did my own for both the VR and our MK photo shoot.

I was a bit frazzled with my hair on the day of the VR b/c of the humidity, but it still turned out pretty good. I'm glad I didn't spend the money on someone else. I was able to do it in a way that I felt comfortable - and it was like me, and not someone else's interpretation of me.

I suggest you just practice, practice, practice! And take some pics of yourself and see how you like it. If you don't like it, then have a professional help you.

If you do your own, then do it! why not? As someone who wears makeup frequently (I work on television), just try to keep in mind to use a primer beforehand. It will hold your makeup better throughout the day.

Also, MAC makes this fantastic powder that I use when I'm on camera - I put it on after all my makeup is on and it's sets it too (asides from the primer). I think you can only get it at the pro stores but it's awesome. It also mattifies your skin (which is better for pictures, no shine.)

If you do get this, make sure to go to a mac pro store. You won't be able to get it at a counter at a dept store. Just look it up online where the pro stores are. The invisible is fantastic. fyi :)

I will most likely be doing my own make up and hair. I have very short layered hair, so getting it professionally done is a waste of money for me. I was in my best friend's wedding last summer and we went to a professional hair stylist who was positive she could work with short hair, even really short hair (not a pixie cut or anything). So I went in and what did she do? Flip my hair out with a curling iron and pin it back - something I could have done just as well!!! So that won't be happening again!

As for make up, I wear make up every day and have been doing it for myself forever - I think I'm pretty good at it atnd have done other's for different events! I'm kind of the same way, not wanting to hate what someone else does. Plus I don't have all the money for all the trials either. I think once you figure out what products you need you'll do great. I've already been purchasing things I've read fantastic reviews on such as eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay = amazing!) and mascaras (diorshow!)...and they're all things that I'll probably continue using after the wedding so I don't see it as a waste of money buying them!

You looked beautiful in that picture! I loved the way you did your hair... it looks like what I am thinking.

Thanks for the advice, I will deff. be checking out what you suggested. I actually always think my face looks too shiny in pics, so this sounds like it would be perfect.

I agree with many things you said. I got my hair done for my futures SIL's wedding in October (didn't really want to but everyone else was so...) anyway the girl did a good job but I could have easily done it myself and it was expensive.

I think I will try my own a few times, and if I like it do it myself. I'm not really worried about the make-up at all, just the hair a little. My ceremony won't be until 5 though, so I will have a lot of time in the morning to mess with it.
Thanks for all the help ladies!

I did my own hair and makeup..I always look like I am wearing a helmet when someone does my hair. I bought a hair wrap..pulled my hair into a half pony and wrapped it around. Secured with the veil..very easy and stayed from 4pm until 1am in the wind and dancing

I had my hair done - it's short, curly, and thin and I could never do anything with it - but I did my own makeup. My hairdresser really wanted me to have my makeup professionally done, too, but whenever I've had it professionally done they use so much stuff, and honestly I look old. DH does not like me in much makeup, and I wanted to look like me on our wedding day. It just seemed natural to do my own makeup on our wedding day. I used waterproof mascara and Estee Lauder loose powder that is specially designed for photographs. I have a lot of "shine" issues and that powder helped a lot. I was very happy with it!
