Im stressing out here....this will be my first time flying to Olrando from Houston (United Airlines) come May for a week taking my Cpap machine with me. I have only been using it for 6 months so everything is relatively new to me. Has anyone every flown before with a Cpap machine?/ How are the airlines about it?/ do you just carry it on? Is it safe enough to leave in the hotel room? I really dont want to schlep it round disney with me....any advice would be truly welcome...thank you.

We have flown with DH's CPAP before. TSA swabbed it and did a manual check of the bag. Most airlines won't count it against your carry-on baggage allowance, but you should definitely check the airline you're flying. I know that some require it to be the only thing in the bag it's stored in...meaning you can't shove other stuff in the bag to use it as baggage.

We always leave it in the room. I'm not toting that thing anywhere! :rotfl:

My dad travels with his CPAP multiple times a year. He carries it on, it doesn't count towards your baggage allotment as long as it's the only thing in the bag, and then when going through security they ask what it is and do a manual inspection/swab it. Never had a problem leaving it in the room anywhere. We cruise a lot and they even provide distilled water and extension cords for it on board!

1. Do not ever check any medical supplies.

2. When I travel I have a backpack with a CPAP machine, all my medications, and other medical equipment. It does not count against baggage limitations.

3. The last few times I have traveled they have not run any special tests on the CPAP. For a few years I had to have it our of the bag and it was treated as if it were a computer, but they seem OK with it in the bag now.

4. There is a disABILTIES Forum on DisBoards; that is the best place to go for anything medical related; it is just two forums below this one on the list.

I've been traveling with mine for years. They no longer swab it for explosives, although some airlines still make me take it out of the case. No airline has ever counted it against my carry-on restrictions. I have always left it hooked up on the bedside table at the hotel with no problems. In a pinch, and if my stay is only 1 or 2 days, I have used tap water in the resevoir with no ill effects.
