*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

Thanks! I may just head up to MK to see it before it opens but not to actually see them (there are runners on the team that I may or may not see). I think I am more likely to skip MK that morning and head to AK since it is always my Sunday morning park.

If you go to the MK please stay to cheer on the chairs, as during the Princess the Mk was dead when I came through, even the characters where not out!!!!

I will definitely stick around until I see you!

My shoes are well ventilated and I don't want to switch that, but right now with the cold temps it's not doing me any favors.

Any suggestions for keeping toes warm? I wear double layered Wright socks (love 'em).

Ronda

The problem with this is that yousr shoes are also sized for the thickness sock you usually wear. I have a really thin pair of wool socks that I received as part of an adventure race I did in Lapke Placid. I have worn them on really cold days. THough I honestly find that if I am out for an hour or longer my regular socks will work well.

There are also Injiji toe socks out there that are designed to prevent toes from rubbing one another. I have never tried them but they could be a solution.

AK is tough on marathon day. The marathon just backs up traffic. You cannot really get from MK to AK unless you are following a runner who is pushing a 14-15 minute pace... and even then you may not see them at AK. You could more easily get to MK for the chairs and elites then haed to Ak for your runners and walkers.

If you are just going to camp out at AK, AK is definitiely a great place to wait for folks who are having a troubled event. There are just not many spectators at AK. Those in the parks or miffed because they are forced to walk a little further than normal and wait for gaps in the 'parade'. Though the cast members are some of the best along the entire route.

If you are there please make sure to yell for all runners. A bell, clappers or anything that is noisy will help!

They start first so they are through the parks the fastest usually. I remember seeing Syko at the Princess when she was around mile 9 and I was just heading up towards MK.

My long run for the week is done: it was 11.5 miles. I have never run that far before. It wasn't easy because there was 1" of snow on the ground and after a couple of miles my shoes and socks were so wet. I wanted to stop a couple of times but I was saying to myself just go another 5 minutes and I would feel better so I went the whole distance.
And I received good news from Disneysports today: even though I could not find my bib number last week, they told me not too worry because I am registerd and I am now waiting for them to put the bib number on the web site:banana:.
I had a headache this afternoon and I think it is because I am not drinking enough during my long run. I will have to take care of that next time.
Have a nice evening.

Hi everyone! Ugh, just reading about everyone running in the cold temps is making me feel cold. Last year I trained for this race outdoors, and had a really hard time. I sympathize with you all and wish you good luck... be careful in the snow and ice!!

This year, I broke down and got a gym membership to a very nice gym that I actually look forward to going to. At first I didn't want to spend the money, but I am SO GLAD I did. To me, it's like going to the spa. :)

I've been doing my weekday runs at the gym and my long runs outdoors, but this weekend was my first indoor long run and it was GREAT! 10 miles on the indoor track and it went well. The track is on the 2nd floor with mostly open atrium in the middle and with windows all around, so it's pretty nice. :)

I am excited... the race is just a month away!! Can't wait to get down to Florida....

:sunny:

Time to head indoors. I have resisted the treadmill mightily this fall. I started on the TM last winter. I soon discovered how wonderful running outside is and vowed to stay. After running in the cold last week (windchill in the teens) and feeling the effects for a few days (I never could get warm, legs were tight the entire way) I realized that was dumb. I have a goal to run in Florida in January. Pulling or tearing something in the cold of December in Missouri would be sad and plain dumb. I've faithfully followed the MfM plan without pain. I have been rewarded with confidence that I can finish the half.

So an hour on the TM this morning and I'm good. It was a little slower than outside, but I'm just building miles. Chugga, chugga. Thursday is my next run and the low is supposed to be zero. Saturday will be better at 24. That will get me back outside.

32 days!

It is still snowing this morning. I went for an easy run this morning after my long run yesterday and it was so slow. I don't know how the Goofy people do to run a marathon after a half-marathon. All I can say is :worship:.
This afternoon I played outside with my dog while I was shoveling snow. 6" of snow is expected tomorrow with wind. It will be fun to go to work.
Lucky for me, I don't have to run before Friday.
Have a nice evening

Well our long run of 8 miles went really well and thankfully it was 46 degrees. I wore gloves which really helped and a scarf. I wish we could layer and shed some of it along the way, but I know with all of the people it would be hard to keep up with it all. I'm thinking of having my mom be at MK and there I could give her some stuff if I'm getting too warm. Or maybe we will have 60 degress and not have to worry. :yay: We got our bib numbers today. It makes it official, it is definitely countdown now.

Hey all! I did my long run this morning... It was somewhere over 11 miles. I only meant to do 10 but my run tracker stopped working, again, so I kept running and ended up going past 11 (figured that out after I got back home).

So when I got back and told my dh that my tracker stopped working yet again, he said, "we're getting you a Garmin". Just a moment ago I ordered the Forerunner 205 on Amazon. I can't wait to get it, maybe before my next long run!

I'll post replies later, my 3 yr old is calling me! :)

Great job on your 11.5. Props to you for running in the snow.

Running in 19 degree weather is nuts. I do not blame you one bit.

Great job on your 8 miles!

Congrats on 11 miles Liz!!

I did another half today. Finished in 1 hr 48 mins. The new pants I bought kept my legs warm, so it was a great run out in the cold.

Wow, you are totally ready for this race!! Great job.

My indoor track is indeed nice, but it is still just 1/8 of a mile so it's a lot of laps to get up to 10 miles. Oddly enough it didn't bother me, I think because of the windows and the constant activity going on below me on the gym floor that I could kind of watch as I ran.

Good job to all you runners!!

Trying to get motivated between the cold and the rain... Missed my treadmill run last night so hopefully I can get a few miles done this AM.

1 month to go....

I did 10 miles on the treadmill yesterday since I couldn't bear to do it outside in the snow and cold. I put a DVD in to watch while I ran, but it was over before I finished! :rotfl: I either have to run faster or find longer movies.

I'm glad I got the 10 miler done. It feels good to have a long run in the double digits. Now I feel like the 11 miler won't be so hard to do.
